I had to smile when he turned the NES on without a game in it, then wondered why it did nothing Standard console design at the time but not hard to see how it would confuse a young man who is used to how more modern consoles work
Well I've done some repair on these old consoles and played them years ago, but it's been a while since I played a cartridge based console so I just completely forgot I had to have a game in lol
@@jrob0021 To give you more technical details about why you have to put a cartridge into the console to boot it, it's because the console doesn't have any sort of bios (like most of the cartridge-based systems). When you power up the system the CPU Program Counter register (which store the address of the current instruction executed by the processor) is set to a specific value, and this value is by default set to the first instruction of the game ROM (the ROM is mapped to a certain address range of the memory map, from 0x0000 to 0x4000 for example, and the RAM is mapped from 0x4001 to 0xFFFF). So when a cartridge isn't inserted, the processor can't find the instruction and crashes
The original gun was grey instead of orange, but some 80's Karen's complained it looked too much like a real gun, and so they changed the color to orange to more resemble a toy gun. This was all the neighborhood kids talked about when we were 7 in 1985, lol.
That became a law when a kid got shot because he was playing with Megatron. Megatron looked real enough to pass for a real gun. Because of that they made toy companies put the orange thing at the end of the toy guns.
These last NES Action Sets, with this package design, are rare because the bundle was soon replaced by the Challenge Set that had Super Mario Bros. 3 included.
I remember after Christmases in the late 80s and early 90s, I'd see those boxes thrown out the following trash day after Christmas. I went through a few of them and always found the AV cables. I guess many people didn't realize that those cables gave the best picture quality.
A lot of TVs back then didn't even have the AV ports in the back. Especially if you had a cheap TV. It was either coaxial or rabbit ears. Those were your only two connectors.
I first got this console back in 1987 or so. Was 5 at the time. I can remember looking at that poster at a friends house back in 1988 or so. You have no idea the amount of nostalgia i am getting from this video lol

If you get the pins replaced then you don’t need to push it down but with the original pins then you need to push it down for it to work but new pins are very firm and don’t need this
I got for my for my birthday in 1988 the mario, duck hunt and track and field nes! Good ol days! Man I want that poster in it bad! And the cover on the little bottom is actually a expansion slot and have to break the plastic to expose it! Nintendo and sony was planning to make nintendo cd! But sony pulled away and now playstation
I don't understand how or why it worked AT ALL without clicking it down. I've opened at least 2 of these BRAND NEW,straight off the shelf systems so can speak with some authority on the subject, the console shouldn't have worked or even turn on(shouldn't have been blinking)without the game in it's proper place.
you're wrong. You don't need to push down the game, some 3rd party games are bigger then normal nes game carts, and 3rd party tools like game genie wouldn't work at all if you had to push down the game cart to get it to power on. All pushing the game down does is make better contact with the 72pin connector.
You have to change the refreash ratio of your camera while recording to the crt's monitor refresh rate in order to be synchronished in order to not see the waves your camera picks up from the diff frequenses between em for example if crt is 50 hz you have to put it on 50 hz on the camera too , i think there some tutorials and info about it on the internet to check it out it will help you getting better footage of some good old crt's magic :)
It seems like you got a good deal don’t know much about prices but I do know I saw a guy ordering a used one from dkoldies and it had replacement parts and he paid almost 400 for the same setup but his did come with super Mario 3 but still
Awesome unboxing and video! Also for filming crts the flickering is due to the shutter speed of the camera not matching the frame rate of the tv I believe. Most cameras will have a way to manually change shutter speed to 60 and if you’re using a phone to record there’s an awesome app called DSLR camera that allows you to change the shutter speed but I found the automatic settings work perfectly fine when it focuses on the tv it changes the shutter speed and other settings for you while recording and there’s no flickering or black lines!
