This is why when I get a console for my collection , I just stay away from these so called "refurbished" units. I just try to find the best looking one at the best price and refurbish it myself.
Same here I’d rather buy it & restore it myself than buy from someone who so called refurbished it at least when you buy & restore something you know it’s being done right & not halfway.
Saying "it's not a big deal" is really off the mark. For that level of investment and the thorough cleaning that's required, it certainly is a big deal to me. Someone's definitely going to lose their good feedback and learn to do better than using just a paper towel and cleaning supplies from the dollar store. I run a repair shop myself, and when I change thermal paste on a PlayStation or repair a controller, I do a complete cleanup, washing every part that can be safely washed with soap and water. By the way, I love these videos! Keep up the great work!
Get better soon brother! I'll be praying for you and your family. I would love to see a long-fix compilation of the most difficult/complicated repairs!
This makes me wonder where my first gen NES is. I miss playing all my favorite games, Zelda, Mario, bump-n-jump, Spy Hunter even A Boy and His Blob. It's been 30 years a wow, so much fun.
Put an old credit card inside the sandpaper and slot it straight in and out. It is the best way to ensure not bending pins while your moving back and forth.
The First NES I brought was from a guy who was moving away and needed the money ,it was with a small 12" TV and 10 extra games all for $100 this was in the mid or late 80s
I'm glad someone is calling out these people that sell these refurbished items. Maybe it will keep some people a little more honest in their listing's.
I would have given the console review either a 2 or 3 depending wether or not they showed proof the console was chippied on the outside before your purchase. The packaging was subpar at best, and they definitely should have checked the pin connection with the issues of the blinking light. I forgot there a few screws were missing from the board, too.
Ehh, I know ebay can be tricky, but if you're selling as a business, I'd say you should get some actual decent boxes and packaging material, even if you increase the price sightly to cover it. And definitely make sure it's working well before you send it.
What is so hard about these companies understanding what is expected from a "refurbished" console? It's actually infuriating. When people buy refurbed, they should 100% be able to take it home, plug it in, and have it work like new.
Figuring out the exact process for making your personal nes work was half of the fun. I had to slap the shit out of the side of mine after putting the game in and then turn it on. Worked every time.
I used to make a killing selling refurbished NES consoles locally about 8-10 years ago...I kept a pile of 72 pin connectors and I would just change them out if they looked bad...It saved me a lot of headache if the system actually worked when they got it home!
I have two old NES consoles that do the same thing with reading the game cartridges. I'm going to follow what you did here to hopefully get them going good. One of them looks brand new and the other one definitely needs to be retro brighted due to the yellowing.
Damn I thought for a moment this was a new video and he was off Chemo due to getting better and then I realized this wasn't his main channel. Keep on fighting man.
Sincerely, when I read the word, "refurbished" I expect that to be in, "like new" condition. Meaning pristine and thoroughly cleaned and all caps replaced, with certified parts (72 PIN connector for example). Basically everything except for the logic board. You can't trust anybody these days. The scratches and faded front text is unacceptable for a refubished device. That is not, "Like New" which is what refurbsihed means. You need to be a TronicsFix guy or a tinkerer like MyMateVince these days. I am considering offering my skills to this craft. We would all provide quality products. Let's start the group The Refurb Massive! It's a working title.
why did they put "working condition" its like they put "give me a negative feedback" if they are going to restore a console AND list it as "IN WORKING CONDITION" u would thing they would test it to make sure it meets that minimum requirement. sellers that do that give ebay a bad name and im glad that this seller got the negative feedback that they deserved. Great video. next go to a good will and see if u can find a nes there for you to restore.
He should have just blown on it. It worked 100% of the time when i was a kid. Take cartridge out blow on it and inside the NES and put back in, played everytime.
I always had problems with the nes, every one I got stopped working after about a week, and always needed to fiddle with the carts. Recently I found an early nineties Famiclone. Cleaned it up, and it still works like a charm. Nintendo 0, bootleggers 1 😂
Seller definitely deserves negative feedback. Complete false advertisement. It wasn’t refurbished or cleaned… he sold it assuming no one would open it or bother posting a video on it. Exact same shitty selling practices of DK Oldies. I really hope you gave them your honest feedback.
You probably already knows it but it's the Nintendo's lockout chip It's probably not getting a signal from the cartridge that's why it's doing that or the chip is damaged in some way🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
The missing foot and rattle in the controller would have had me sending it back immediately. Not to mention the finicky 72 pin. These refurb companies are complete BS. Can of compressed air and a bleach wipe is all they do I swear.
That's not acceptable if someone claims to hand clean their stuff. Goes to show there's dishonest private sellers out there as well. Give the dude a bad detailed bad review if possible and people can hopefully get a heads up. I guess it's more to do with wether people just want to make as much money as possible and just shit out consoles and not giving them the TLC they deserve.

But you know, someones gotta do it. These are game consoles, not untouched virgins of purity. We shouldn't have such standards and instead just care for the dwindling stock.
When I clean a console, I take all the plastic parts and give it a bath in hot water and dawn dish soap and I have a facebook page with pics showing my work
No matter how much you clean the cables on retro consoles they will always produce that brown substance because you're wiping away material as well as dirt that has absorbed in the plastic. I've spent hours trying to get it to stop and it never would
