    20 years a go my friend could afford a 2 bed room rental in Ballard. By herself. Until they raised the rent( her space was beside the washer and dryer room. Also right above the entrance. So maybe that apartment was less due to the inconvenience.)
    It is amazing to see how expensive living can be.

    I just left Seattle, and it’s been so bittersweet. We rented in Ballard, despite the decline it’s still a great neighborhood and the school district was very good. It was an older 1100sqft, 2bd 2ba, 7 closets, fully equipped kitchen, storage unit and covered parking spot for $2000 plus utilities.
    Unfortunately crime has been on the rise, our mail and packages got stolen on a regular basis, car got hit while parked on the street several times, and other car in the shared garage got smashed and broken into about every 6 months. Don’t be fooled by the tragic appearance of the homeless- they will attack you if you look soft. Get bear spray, they laugh at pepper spray. And watch out for the uneven sidewalks.
    That said, it’s a really cool, fun, techy city. I can’t imagine my career growing as it did anywhere else. Even though I didn’t find my tribe there, I met a lot of really interesting hustle minded people. Public transit was pretty great too. By far my favorite was all the incredible nature of the PNW, it’s magical.
    Good luck, Sarah. I’m sure you’ll have an awesome time there, just be aware of your surroundings.

    A bit of public service announcement for those not super familiar with the area. I used to own a townhouse just a few blocks off of Aurora avenue within a mile of Licton Springs. Do not move to within a few blocks of Aurora Avenue!! It is far sketchier than the video implies. You have in your face all day and all night prostitution and drug dealing opening happening with no fear of repercussions. Somewhat not terrible during the day but definitely not a comfortable or safe feeling place at night. There are so many far better areas in Seattle or within inner suburbs that are not far from that price point.

    • @SarahRoseBeauty
      @SarahRoseBeauty  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it’s not a great area. These were kind of our back up options and luckily we did end up in a much better area at this price point!

    My rent is almost $3k for a 2 bed/2 bath apartment that's about 800 sq feet. Median housing is easily over $1M. I'm torn between moving to a city with much more reasonable housing, but the food here is just too good.

    Apartment 3 looked super nice! I will say it is probably cheaper to just do laundry at a laundry matt. I pay $50 a month just for washer and dryer rental, which is ridiculous. All of the outside cities, like Bothell, Everett, Lynnwood, prices are almost higher than Seattle area which is frustrating.

    • @CeeTee380
      @CeeTee380 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use up $60 a week in quarters at the laundromat for laundry/linens (about 6 loads for 3 peopled), in Seattle. So I’d say your $50 a month is a bargain 🤷‍♀️
      …. one of those loads is kitchen linens such as napkins, towels and tablecloths because we don’t use disposable paper products in the kitchen. I know that might seem a little extra to some families, but it’s important to us.

    We sold property (almost 3 acres) in lynnwood about 2 blocks off hwy 99 at the end of 2021 for $1.5M. A developer bought it. It was so sad to see it go, but the property taxes were insane! My grandparents bought the property for around $5K which was a lot of money back in the late ‘50’s. The prices have skyrocketed in that area. To think it used to take 15 minutes on hwy 99 to get to downtown Seattle and today it would take 2-3 hours to get there depending on traffic!

    When I was in the area I had to deal with an overpriced studio down and had to pay extra if I wanted to park. What sucks the most are all these places with year long contracts so you don't get the wiggle room to shop around for a better deal. You have to get lucky. We ended up heading all the way down to Olympia with a WFH job and getting a 2 bedroom for the same price.

    There is no way these apartments are at these prices. Those prices are less than 600$ if not lesser than market prices for Seattle apartments. One of them even had a mounted A/C unit for that price. That is like finding a unicorn in Seattle.

      🤷‍♀️ idk what to tell ya, lol. Neighborhood/ location has a lot to do with these prices. But they can be found, you just have to dig a little bit!

      @@SarahRoseBeauty Then I think you could make it like a series where you find these cheap apartments. I am sure a lot of people like me will like to know about them.

    Crying in Northeast rent prices .. 1500 can barely get a studio, let alone that much space and updated appliances 😭

      Ugh I bet!!! We have joked that we’d love to live in NYC one day but only if we are well off 😂 Seattle isn’t cheap but it’s not nearly as expensive as people make it out to be!

    Me and my girlfriend are moving to Seattle and don't want to be homeless. We both work and already have jobs in Seattle so how do we not live on the street? We also don't use drugs or alcohol and I'm being serious.

    I'm in Sacramento CA. 14 years ago, I paid 1100 for a 700 sq ft 1 bedroom with laundry. So $1500 seems VERY reasonable. If you love real estate videos subscribe to Cash Jordan. His NYC real estate videos make my day every day.
