One of the major benefits of living in hi-rises is the amenities that they usually provide (gyms, exclusive restaurants/bars, shared work spaces, pools, etc.). If you were to get memberships to all those different places, it could sometimes justify the higher rent cost. The other benefit of course is those views (11:31) on those lucky days when you are literally living above the clouds! ⛅ You did a great job with the interior design and warming up the place to make it feel less "industrial/commercial" and rather like a home. Looking forward to your new adventure in buying a property of your own.
I lived in one of those glorified cages before. The fact is, very few residents of these buildings actually use the on-site amenities (just go to the gyms/pools and count how many residents are there). People are so busy working (and depressed) that they hardly got the mood to do anything recreational, and when they do, chances are they want to go out of the building to feel a bit of a break. The gyms attached to apartments are seldom satisfactory. To avoid liability, they usually do not have heavy weights in case of injury. If you wanna go there and do some yoga stretches? Fine. Want to boost your max in bench press or deadlift? Better find a real gym. The shared workspaces sounds nice, but they typically come with additional costs. One of the apartments I lived in had this super fancy workspace, but to book it for a group (anything more than 2 people) is an extra $500/hour. In that regard why wouldn't anyone go to WeWork or a library and book it for $50/hour? Restaurants/bars are two situational, so I wouldn't say they are all great or bad, but typically liviing in an apartment building above wouldn't give you much real discount or exclusive rights to access, since no owners are against more customers. In general I think these apartments are nothing more than a golden bird cage - cool for experiencing for a while, and the prestige boost that comes without it. But in the long run, it's not worth it to rent, and certainly not worth it to own (the very limited property rights and the crippling HOA fees would be another chapter)
Shelby, this was a great video that truly highlights what the cost of living in Seattle is like. While it is expensive compared to many other places, I think something people dont understand is that you are really paying for the conveniences and desirablity of living Downtown. I really resonated with your points about the walkability and bikeability of the city center, and how you don't need a car because everything is within reach. But I also wanted to mention something I've noticed about downtown over the past few years. Since COVID hit, it's been a bit of a different scene - more vacant apartments, shuttered offices, and unfortunately, a noticeable increase in homelessness and crime. It's a sad shift, but cities are tough, you know? I'm really hopeful though, because downtown Seattle is starting to bounce back. More folks are moving back and tourists are slowly returning, and that's going to help make it safer and more lively. We just gotta stick it out. As for your move to the Townhouse, it sounds super smart financially. Living with Monica in a place you own is a big win. But, you're probably going to miss the luxury of walking or biking to everything. That's the trade-off, I guess. Suburbs and townhouses have their own vibe and charm though. Anyway, best of luck with your move! Can't wait to see your new place in your next videos. Take care, -Ben
$66,000 to rent for 1 year is insane. If money was no issue I would love to live there. Thanks for sharing your experience. Can’t wait to see where you go next….
imagine paying 66k for something you don't build equity in only to step 5 feet out your door to be accosted/assaulted by aggressive homeless. Ha! What a deal!
ugh so sad you’re moving from that beautiful place 😢 but glad you’re sticking around seattle! seriously you and monica are a huge reason why i moved here. monica’s videos specifically made me fall in love with this city. also thanks for not shooting b-roll of the homeless/users. i work for a non-profit downtown and those are my people. i would’ve been really sad to recognize their faces exploited for a youtube video. it’s little things like that that make you a wonderful influencer!
Piroshky Piroshky is amazing! I stop every time. And you nailed the rain. It’s more gloomy than rainy all the time. People think it rains way more than it actually does.
I used to live in Pioneer Square and had an expensive studio with a waterview. I also built a full size kitchen table inside my apartment. For $5,500 I would get out though and just have a nice house across the lake in Kirkland, Bellevue, or Issaquah
This girl has no idea how sweet she has it. A whole high rise to yourself, in Seattle in your 20s early 30s. It's not even the apartment, it's the experience. Very few people get that kind of freedom and opportunity in their prime years. Enjoy it, you'll miss it dearly. ♥️

Can we talk about how incredible it was that you had a parking spot included? I live in a suburb of Seattle. I’ve never had parking included in rent. It’s always more and you are lucky to get 1 spot per unit.
We were in Seattle for the first time a couple of weeks ago and the weather was perfect. We walked from our hotel down to the Market and all around trying out stuff.
Beautiful high rise condo! Its too big for me, I don’t need all that room and at the quoted cost, seems more of a fit for a couple than for a single person. Thanks for the tour! 😊
So awesome to live that close the market. When I first lived in Seattle I was in Belltown, so the market was walkable, but it felt like an outing. Would have been so nice to be closer. I'm glad to see that a lot of my favorite shops are still there.
Whats crazy is that I live in Phoenix which is decently walkable depending exactly where you live, its a huge city, but all of our expenses for a couple including gas, car, rent, bills, literally everything is under $2000...We own our home so it's definitely different than renting, but renting instead of owning would still put us under $4000 per month. I guess you would factor in the better weather, the high rise view, and just the fact that it's a more expensive state to live in...5,700 a month isnt bad. Its kinda cool to see the comparison :)
stunning water veiws!! my x bf owned one of the top 5 sushi place (hint:he is chef kashiba's grandson back in LA now) but I had the chance to stay at his place few times & experience the high end life :-)
Loved getting to see your neighborhood. I think the surroundings of home is my biggest pro or con…rather than the interior of the home I’d look at living in.
Speaking of weather - I just moved to Seattle for my internship this week, and the weather was NOT as advertised lol ... I love the gloomy weather as you mentioned in the vid, but it is HOT this week!
A future video idea: I'd be really interested in learning how to hire a professional meal peper. Cost, is it as convienant as it sounds and how to get the most out of it. I hate cooking and always wondered if its worth having someone help me meal prep (chop, marinade etc).
wow, what a lovely apartment, the city also has almost this Scandinavian touch to it, love it! Btw you should definitely visit Prague, Czech republic, I feel like you would love that historic city.
Visiting a city like Seattle I highly recommend not getting a rental car! Like she says in the video the city is so walkable and there’s tons of the scooters you can rent for cheap. My husband and I went for a three day weekend and walked about 20,000 steps a day. It was exhausting but it was seriously the best trip we’ve ever taken! I so badly want to do it again!
Last week I went to Seattle for the first time. What’s good about the drugs and homeless in Seattle compared to Europe is that they’re all in 1 or 2 streets in downtown (west lake and 3rd/cherry street). In London or Paris they’re more spread out and less predictable and bother the entire city.
I see links for most items - thank you so much! I didn't see a link for the beautiful black marble lamp on your entry table. Can you share any info about this lamp or where to purchase?
When I am in town I stay at Embassy suites, I love the views especially at dusk… one of the best urban views on the west coast. Seattle gets a bad rap but its nothing like Portland or SF which I am very accustomed too. There was a person freaking out in-front of the hotel and we just ignored him, he wasn't bothering me or anyone else. Just yelling and screaming….
I've always loved the views from that condo. But seeing how bike-able the area is really has me wanting to visit the west coast. Could you talk about the projector set-up a little more, please? I'm intrigued.
Omg I was living across the street in high-rise at Helios! I lived in downtown Seattle for 5 years and I finally glad that I moved out. Even tho you mentioned nothing ever happened to you but my friend Eina the restaruant owner of Aburiya Bento House was shot in downtown Seattle on Lenora and 4th by mental guy. I am glad I finally moved out of Seattle.. also a lot of businesses are closing there so I woudn't recommend to live there unless you work for Amazon or something...
Thanks for noting that downtown Seattle is just like every downtown and has its problems. I lived there in 1994 (when I was about the same age as you are now! ) to 2000 and it was always the way it is now, as far as homelessness and drugs. I remember it was often sketchy for me walking around there but I loved going to the market and to the waterfront and just all the conveniences of downtown. I miss it a lot. I moved back to the Edmonds area when I got married and had kids. I try to get there as often as I can. I worked there for a long time so I loved getting to see it that way but I still miss being able to walk everywhere so easily and I was in great shape! So hopefully downtown Seattle will recover again from whatever people say is wrong with it, which I believe is exaggerated! Great video and best wishes on your new place and hope you find a great fixer upper to live in soon!
Walkability is a huge factor for me. Idk if you've checked out downtown Boston (Back Bay, Theater District, North End, etc.), but it's amazingly walkable too.
Shelby, you forgot to mention the wonderful amenities in your building! The gym and pool! Though it was a bit pricey. I have seen some in L.A., going for $10,000.00 or more! You pay for the views, convenience, and safety! The shops and stores are amazing; at your Condo! Unfortunately, every city has bad areas! Be watchful and safe! I look forward to your next move in video! 👍💯 Shelby, where is Sam? 👍😅
Moving in five days? Welp, this tour came just in time then. Wow. And she's so casual about it. Pretty cool digs for sure. And news flash, not everyone is obsessed with continuous hot sunny weather, they're actually good with rain and or snow being thrown into the mix. Such people are not freaks of nature
Wow! It's a beautiful condo and I've enjoyed watching you living your life in this great space! Actually if one can split the rent, it's not that bad with all you get.❤
@@justjordianohow can I ask out Shelby church’s beautiful twin sister Monica church on a lunch date at the Renton landing at toreros Mexican restaurant
Your space was stunning Shelby and man that walkability is everything!! I just recently moved to a great spot in LA with amazing walkability as well and let me tell you, it is a game changer to not have to take your car everywhere. Thanks for taking us along and sharing your space, it looked like a really great one to be in for the last year 😊
if you think the West Coast cities are drug filled, you should see the ones here in the heartland. Here in St. Louis, our skyscraper windows have literally been shot out before, and you can’t walk around downtown without getting approached by panhandler or at the very least seeing something sketchy…
Shelby, thank you for this video. I am going to get a couch from article your bed and a couple of other goodies. Thank you for listing everything that you got that was so exciting for me so thank you thank you I appreciate you keep the videos coming so love you.❤
You will be on 2nd Ave - take the Westlake Sound transit to Capital Hill station. Great area for restaurants and shopping. Walking paths walk down to 1st or Western then head north to Olympic Sculpture Park -- lot's of paths to explore near the Sound
Shelby, Beautiful apartment but maybe too pricy for most viewers. However, with that view, would it make for a good AirBNB opportunity? Could you own it? Maybe rent it out for $1,500 a week? What’s the market there for AirBNB? Seattle is a bucket list destination for me but I wouldn’t want to relocate there. I just moved to Florida and love it here but haven’t lived thru a summer yet or hurricane season. Each town has there own thing. Keep up the great work!
Random question about your white towels. How do you (or anyone reading this) prevent them from turning yellow over time? All of my white hand towels turn yellow as I use them and I’m scared to use bleach because they aren’t solid white; they have black or gray prints with the white. Thanks!
People always talk about how terrible the homeless situation is in Seattle. I live in San Diego and we have just as terrible a homeless situation if not worst because of the sunny weather.
When you go downtown on foot, do you take 'security' with you, apart from a mobile. Spray, taser, etc...!! (Have you special defensive weapons at home..?)
BS.. Miami has been one of the deadliest years for the homeless in recent memory. In 2022, 216 homeless people died on the streets of Miami. and 27,000 homeless in the state of Florida alone. That's with your horrible governor shipping the homeless to other states. The weather, hot and humid with bugs the size of hand -hard pass
It was a lot of fun watching you live here for the past year and decorate it and especially build furniture. I wish you well in your new place.

5500 a month is insane
Its a luxury, aka, rich people housing
Always funny seeing these comments from people that don’t live in big cities. This is pricey but for a luxury apartment downtown it’s pretty normal
Totally reasonable on her income of almost $1 mil a year
Yeah….This monthly cost would be a 10000 sq. ft single family home in a gated community where I live.

Loved getting to see your neighborhood. I think the surroundings of home is my biggest pro or con…rather than the interior of the home I’d look at living in.
$5500 is a lot. That can be a mortgage payment in some other states for a mansion.
States but not major metro areas. It’s shocking people’s inability to grasp basic economics at work.
other states that don't have close to the amenities that come with cities. Different living in the suburbs
Speaking of weather - I just moved to Seattle for my internship this week, and the weather was NOT as advertised lol ... I love the gloomy weather as you mentioned in the vid, but it is HOT this week!
summers in Seattle will vary; but its 99% sunny in the summer. 80 does feel like 100
i like how organic ur apt. looks like. also just put out my PROJECTOR & planned to use it again ;-) movie feel 🙂
Wow Monica was really generous in what portion of your rent she paid being that she didn’t live there, just worked there
And didn't work there either
@@jasonfournier my guess is Monica says she works there for a tax write off.
Incoming comments that say their home mortgage is cheaper. Not everyone wants a McMansion in the middle of nowhere Karen.
omg your apt is GORGEOUS! love how you did the limewash on the bedroom wall!!
Seattle has a heavy Nordic population ( and museum) many in the early 1900s moved to Seattle because it reminded them of home. Fishing and mountains
I'm moving into this building next month, super excited!
I so badly want to do it again!
luv that Italian grocery shop and proshky one of the store here in silver lake closed (pandemic was last time I was there)
Last week I went to Seattle for the first time. What’s good about the drugs and homeless in Seattle compared to Europe is that they’re all in 1 or 2 streets in downtown (west lake and 3rd/cherry street). In London or Paris they’re more spread out and less predictable and bother the entire city.
don’t come back
Re-read their comment. They were complimenting Seattle. No need to be so rude.
You need to get out more. There's homeless spread all over the Seattle area and surrounding counties as well. Nothing good about it.
I see links for most items - thank you so much! I didn't see a link for the beautiful black marble lamp on your entry table. Can you share any info about this lamp or where to purchase?
Thanks for sharing, we can’t wait to see the new apartment
It's wild how different that area looks now. We did a walk through during Sakura Con and it was a great area, good pick.
I LOVE the rain. The Seattle heat is pissing me off. 😂
The drug and homeless problems happen in every major city, not just on the West Coast.
Where is your projector in your bedroom mounted? Beautiful space btw!
Such a good video! You are sooo good at getting high quality shots. Also I LOVE your hair in this video 😍
Walkability is a huge factor for me. Idk if you've checked out downtown Boston (Back Bay, Theater District, North End, etc.), but it's amazingly walkable too.
4:35 What lamp do you have on your bedside table?
I’ve definitely driven by your building when I visited Seattle that so funny!!
Thanks for the tour! Really nice table Shelby!
Shelby, where is Sam? 👍😅
That console table is impressive!
Do you have a video of how you made the console table? I love it!
Wow! It's a beautiful condo and I've enjoyed watching you living your life in this great space! Actually if one can split the rent, it's not that bad with all you get.❤
Love your videos! I live in Seattle and I’ve been looking for an entry table like this for months and and I think it time to make my own. 😂
Cool to see Seattle again, I grew up there :)
Which part of SEA?

@@justjordianohow can I ask out Shelby church’s beautiful twin sister Monica church on a lunch date at the Renton landing at toreros Mexican restaurant
Your space was stunning Shelby and man that walkability is everything!! I just recently moved to a great spot in LA with amazing walkability as well and let me tell you, it is a game changer to not have to take your car everywhere. Thanks for taking us along and sharing your space, it looked like a really great one to be in for the last year 😊
I love Seattle. The ferry boats and restaurants on the ocean piers when it's sunny is such a VIBE
Very polished video. Excellent job
What type of projector do you use?? Do you like the quality? Thank you!!😊
That is a dream kitchen. 🥰
Nah Standin Ona Bed With The Beatup Forces Iz Insaneee🤣🤣
I’m going to Seattle in July!!! Def going to the market place !!!
if you think the West Coast cities are drug filled, you should see the ones here in the heartland. Here in St. Louis, our skyscraper windows have literally been shot out before, and you can’t walk around downtown without getting approached by panhandler or at the very least seeing something sketchy…
you don't know what you are talking about - every city is different. Don't fall for the false narratives pushed by media
@@sterlingmarshel6299 it’s not false narratives. It’s actually happened here. And I’ve witnessed some of this crap too.
Shelby, thank you for this video. I am going to get a couch from article your bed and a couple of other goodies. Thank you for listing everything that you got that was so exciting for me so thank you thank you I appreciate you keep the videos coming so love you.❤
Can you put a link to your projector? I have been looking to get one!
The fish market scene made me smile omg
They were so nice to do that 😭❤️
Any good recs for walking paths/areas? I’m staying at the charter hotel in a few weeks. Also hoping to get around Capitol Hill
You will be on 2nd Ave - take the Westlake Sound transit to Capital Hill station. Great area for restaurants and shopping. Walking paths walk down to 1st or Western then head north to Olympic Sculpture Park -- lot's of paths to explore near the Sound
But where is the link for the space heater and projector?
Are you using a gimbal for all those b roll shots in the market ? I know you have an a7 right?
What floor were you living on to have such amazing views?
Shelby, Beautiful apartment but maybe too pricy for most viewers. However, with that view, would it make for a good AirBNB opportunity? Could you own it? Maybe rent it out for $1,500 a week? What’s the market there for AirBNB? Seattle is a bucket list destination for me but I wouldn’t want to relocate there. I just moved to Florida and love it here but haven’t lived thru a summer yet or hurricane season. Each town has there own thing. Keep up the great work!
That condo is 1 million plus
ya you really "spiced" up that entry way table lol
Hahaha yea not really I know
Awesome! When I move back, I hope to buy a condo in WS on Harbor Ave/Alki Ave. Do you ever go over the bridge?
Can we talk about the pretty beige lounge set? Can you link where it’s from? I love it!
Hi Shelby, Would you talk about the job layoff recently?
Dad Church is an awesome guy !
Where’s your cozy set from? Impeccable style Shelby!
Who else feels like they heard Shelby's genuine laugh for the first time ever at 8:43 😭❤
Random question about your white towels. How do you (or anyone reading this) prevent them from turning yellow over time? All of my white hand towels turn yellow as I use them and I’m scared to use bleach because they aren’t solid white; they have black or gray prints with the white. Thanks!
The interior design of ur apartment is sooooo good but u definitly need plants lol. Maybe some that’ll survive all ur travels
Did your landlord like the stained wall that you painted ??
Another good one!! 🙌
Gotta pack Heat walking down These liberal run cities 🤷🏽♂️😂🤣
@@peteyn.y.7960 you’re ignorance is showing. Maybe try educating yourself BEFORE speaking next time
Great content love your channel ❤
moved from Seattle to Miami, downtown to downtown, way less homeless and better weather, I suggest the move.
