Actually you are probably thinking of the Hague Convention. It covers what happens during war time engagements. Geneva covers capture and imprisonment after the battle. However, in a hostage situation (non-war time) neither of these apply. The Hague which specifies FMJ bullets. Yes I am a pedant.
I had always wanted a Makarov ever since I first heard of it. I went to my local Gun Show and wouldn't you know it, a vendor was selling one! It belonged to a local sheriff who kept it as a backup, and I bought it immediately. Little did I know, it was a 9x18 double-stack. I bought the EFA-2 holster as soon as I could find one, and this little beauty is going to stay in my family forever.
Years ago, at the height of Makarov's being imported, I worked as a range officer. One of our patrons was a Makarov hoarder, and a bit crazy. He had heard that the 9X18 pistol would function just as well with the .380acp ammunition and decided to give it a try. It actually worked! After a couple hundred rounds the extractor finally broke. He deduced that the extractor was holding the case rim, keeping the shorter 380 from falling forward, and this stress over time broke the extractor.

Hey Brandon, I have a question for you: My dad was a cop (detective) in Hungary between 1993 and 2002 and his service weapon was a PA-63 (and an AMD-65 in case the serbs ever decided to come north, but that's not relevant now). The PA-63 is listed everywhere as being chambered for 9x18 Makarov, but my dad insists they were issued with and firing 9x19 para out of it. Now, my dad is not a typical firearms-illiterate (I know this for a fact, have confirmed it on multiple occasions) and knows the difference between 9x18 and 9x19. He told me that the PA's frame started distorting after a couple of hundred rounds and knowing that 9x19 is hotter than 9x18, I wouldn'T exactly be surprised if they had just shot their PA's literally to shit by running routinely 9x19 through it. My question is: do you think it's possible they were *actually* running 9x19 out of their PA-63's, and how safe or unsafe was that in practical terms, knowing the 9x19 is a full mm longer and would thus technically make a PA-63 fire out of battery every time?
The differences between 9x19 Parabellum and 9x18 Mak are more than just length, The 9x18 Mak's projectiles are .365 caliber or 9.3mm, while the 9x19 has a .355 caliber projectile. It's entirely possible that he was putting 9x19 through them, and the damage he reported would make sense if it was true as it's really not a good idea to shoot 9x19 through a 9x18 gun unless you like blown up Maks
I'm like a year late but the time period and area you mention. They did make some Mak's in 9mm parabaluem for certain military and police units. No idea all the units but apparently they are very rare to find now. The military firearms channel has a couple of videos about it.
I'm pretty certain you can't fire 9x19 through a straight blowback pistol. You'd need some serious bolt mass which the Makarov doesn't have. However I'm pretty sure I did read about Makarovs being adapted to fire 9x19 with a special fluted chamber that was designed so that the case expanded in the chamber effectively delaying the blowback. However the cases were always frayed and torn apart during this and would lead to too many jams. As the camera panned down, I noticed the glint in your pocket
I have that EXACT SAME golden flip knife!!!
It makes me happy to know that even though our tastes in handguns may differ, (I’m 25 years, 365 days old and absolutely LOVE 1911s,) we have a similar taste in cutlery. Flashy and probably VERY impractical.
I seriously love your channel, Brandon. Keep up the amazing work.
Edit: much better view at 4:37. Mine even has the same skeleton style pocket clip. And your choice of watch is very tasteful as well, Papa Kalash.
this was so fun. Subscribed and will keep an eye on here. My grandfather had the dozor holster as a driver of the local nkvd "police" force he said that it was a bitch to use with the silencer as it bit your hip or broke your skin eventually with the sights while driving, and to quote "the glovebox had a stechkin that could screw you and your whole family by the time you shat yourself" he was a not really smooth talking fellow you might say.
Your grandad was NKVD?
@@para_magnus2200 yeah, He said it was a shit job that had amazing benefits but you knew if you fuck up you will be next bumping in the trunk in the middle of the night.
Everyone else: *talking about the /THICC/ Makarov*
Me: *staring at the AC/DC "For Those About to Rock" shirt*
Haha same
Added the PM-G grip to my .380 russian retail version.
I highly recommend. Most Compfortable that I've tried. Mag release works flawlessly(my worry).
I want to upgrade my holster. Go to if my life depended.
Thanks, great videos!
Definitely need more of this in my life
