I'm from Bulgaria. My first experience with a Makarov was when i was 8.I remember it was very heavy for me and the recoil was massive. Its the most beautiful gun, most respected here.

Nope there have been at least 3 shootings with this gun that I can remember inside of the last 40 years. One by a criminal and 2 by low income folks defending themselves bin their own homes. I think it may have also been used as a last ditch gun by one of the many mass shooters back in the 80's or 90's but I could be wrong on that one.

When i took my cc class the instructor spent about 30 minutes going over how important it was to carry the gun that you like the most. the one that was special to you. weight, printing, etc was all worth considering, but in the end of the day, what was most important, was to carry the gun that you shoot, and enjoy shooting the most. And therefore end up training the most. That extra 100 rounds becouse that gun just tickles you. yes a S&W 500 will stop any intruder and the one behind him, but its that extra 100 rounds every range day for the last ten years that lets you neutralize a target when it matters
Agreed. For the longest time, my only viable edc was a makarov. Personally, its slim profile and direct blowback makes it too snappy for me. After shooting/buying a CZ, my P01 encourages me to shoot it a lot more.

It's smaller then my Glock 19, durable, reliable. I have a paddle holster with 2 extra mags in pouches. Summer it and the mags easily fit into the pockets of cargo shorts. Is it the greatest? No but a hammer in the hands of one man beats the crap out of things, in the hands of the right man it's a tool.
I've had a Russian Makarov, and a tula Tokarov, but it was when I ran across a Romanian version, double stack, I really got happy. Double stack double action first round, and dead accurate, what more could one want? Semper Fi! I always pick up the ammo and weapons of my enemy.
i remember back in the day, when ''deadliest warriors'' was a thing, my favorite episode was the Spetznaz episode, and MOSTLY the amazing holster for the makarov that also let you have the gun without a round in the chamber BUT when you pushed down the holster it pulled the slide back and loaded a round in the chamber as you got the gun out of the holster safest way to carry a pistol in my mind, still carry a empty chamber , but still getting a loaded pistol as you got it out of the holster

I thought I was the only guy who carried a Mak, and I was thrilled to see that you do too. double/single action with a safety de-cocker is the only way to go for safety.
First thing I thought of, and it’s a MAJOR plus for the Makarov... if you have to use the weapon in a self defense scenario, it’s going to likely be seized and held by law enforcement while the case is investigated. A $200 pistol isn’t a huge loss for a time. A $1000 seized handgun would sort of heart the old heart. So it’s a fine choice, Brandon. 👍🏼

30 years ago when I lived way out in the country . I picked up a DDR version with 4 magazines , holster and belt for 250 $ . Took my dog for his morning walk in the woods everyday and it was a perfect companion. And you are right , the ammo was cheap , even hollow points.
CZ82 for me. But I love the Makarov too. The 9x18mm ammo is equivalent in power to the .38 Special -- only without the overpenetration issues. It's a lighter slug moving faster, so even FMJs usually expend all their energy within the target -- important for city dwellers. The CZ82 carries a baker's dozen rounds, and it fits perfectly in Makarov CCW holsters. But you need a magazine loader, and it's really picky about magazines. Super accurate though with the rigidly mounted barrel. A Russian general told me Warsaw Pact pistol qualification is done at 80 meters. I'll probably pick up a nice Mak someday.
i love the makarov, when i play rimworld with the rimmu-nation mods, i always equip my medics with makarovs, and when it comes down to it ive seen them out shoot my hunters and guards in close quarters fights.

You complain about the Makarov being heavy while its one of my favorite things about it. I don't know why, but I like when handguns are heavy. Its why I like the Ruger Mk1 so much
My CZ-82 in 9x18 makarov blew out and completely destroyed three extractors. in less than 200 rounds. I wouldn't necessarily say the makarov caliber one is automatically "better"
@@xmm-cf5eg One of the biggest reasons I went with the .380 one over the 9x18 Makarov version is because there's more available, more modern, more reliable ammo in the .380 caliber. There's a lot of myth attributed to Soviet ammo, the truth is that most Soviet ammo isn't working with the best materials available (welcome to Communism) so they need to compensate for that in other ways. For example: The bimetal jacket of 7.62x39mm, that is to compensate for very low amount of tin in the bullets. That bimetal jacket is the reason why a lot, and I mean A LOT of cheap Russian soft points still perform well. But the American manufacturers of ammo are still churning out better bullets like Hornady SST and Corbon DPX.
I have an unnatural obsession with the berretta 92/m9, it was in max payne, it was the cool cop pistol, you could dual wield them in counterstrike, seeing one in a game always makes me happy, it's always my go to choice for games that have it and if i ever get out of california i need to save up for a custom berretta.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that has a weird thing for these. My dad has one and I was surprised with how much I like it. It's relatively unrefined, the magazine sucks, The recoil is uncomfortable, and it's using an uncommon round. But there's just something cool about it. And being Russian you know it's not just going to crap out.

I bought a 1987 Bulgarian surplus Makarov last week at a gun show and I swear that man had not cleaned anything but the barrel since the day he got it. (Bore was pristine.) It had so much gunk in it. I went out and shot it and it ran perfectly with all that gunk. I did deep clean it after though. It still has the import legal grips on it.
Received my first makarov as a Christmas gift. I love that thing! Dont know why. Pops plates just fine, best most handguns on conceal profile. Just live it.
If the pistol you carry suits your needs for an EDC, the internet can fuck off. I carry a Glock 19, but before that I carried a Browning HiPower, which I still love.
If you like everything he said about this pistol the beretta px4 is worth looking at. I have never had a failure of any kind, barrel rotates instead of flips, hammer fired, external safety/decocker but....is double stack

This makes more sence than what I carry..... only hand gun I have currently is an 1851 navy...... yeah.... I carry a cap and ball revolver. It's kind of the only hand gun I have at the moment (intend on getting a more modern revolver at some point). Will say this, they're a hell of a lot more reliable than you would think once you learn how to load it right for long term storage.
I have one of those also. It is in my "Tuxedo gun" rotation for formal occasions. A very delightful handgun to carry. Very slim. The dimensions just seem to be perfect. I also have a Browning Model 1955 .380 (same as the FN M1910) that is equally great. But they are a little heavy (for a .32 and .380) by today's standards and the finish is not durable enough to be sweating all over them every day. I would love to see a polymer frame, durable finish exact copy of it though!
Burn notice is only of my all time favorite tv shows . When you picked up the macksrov, the first thing that popped into my mind was the episode when Fiona wanted one . Good times. Glad I am not the only one that thought this was cool .
All valid reasons that I carry a Bersa Thunder 380 plus. Conceilable, supremely reliable, eats every ammo I've bought for it, inexpensive for those of us on a beer budget, all steel construction, and BONUS - 15 +1 capacity. Bersa even has a 1/2 cock with safety on so the hammer cannot be impacted and set the gun off. Just set safety off and pull the hammer back ever so slightly until you hear/feel the first 'click'. I like that even though I prefer not to appendix carry. Consider the Bersa if you ever feel need to move on from the Mak. Bersa even has sigle stack variants of which one is a CC model for extra carry friendly features.
I fully agree it's somewhere between a great carry weapon and a good carry weapon, yes it's a little heavier than your today carry weapons and ammo is sometimes a little tuff to get, but the makorave is tough and is 99.99 % chance it will go bang when you need it to protect yourself or loved ones
You can get special holster that you push down and it will pull the slide back as you push the pistol through the holster if I am correct it was made for special forces who carried them.

i love the makarov, when i play rimworld with the rimmu-nation mods, i always equip my medics with makarovs, and when it comes down to it ive seen them out shoot my hunters and guards in close quarters fights.

My CZ-82 in 9x18 makarov blew out and completely destroyed three extractors. in less than 200 rounds.

There's a lot of myth attributed to Soviet ammo, the truth is that most Soviet ammo isn't working with the best materials available (welcome to Communism) so they need to compensate for that in other ways. For example: The bimetal jacket of 7.62x39mm, that is to compensate for very low amount of tin in the bullets. That bimetal jacket is the reason why a lot, and I mean A LOT of cheap Russian soft points still perform well. But the American manufacturers of ammo are still churning out better bullets like Hornady SST and Corbon DPX.

I have an unnatural obsession with the berretta 92/m9, it was in max payne, it was the cool cop pistol, you could dual wield them in counterstrike, seeing one in a game always makes me happy, it's always my go to choice for games that have it and if i ever get out of california i need to save up for a custom berretta.

I carry a 1911 in .45 acp. I’m also a big fan of impractical edc. My other edc is a .40 S&W with a 25 RD. mag. Both of them carried appendix style

Glad to see I'm not the only one that has a weird thing for these. My dad has one and I was surprised with how much I like it. It's relatively unrefined, the magazine sucks, The recoil is uncomfortable, and it's using an uncommon round. But there's just something cool about it. And being Russian you know it's not just going to crap out.

I bought a 1987 Bulgarian surplus Makarov last week at a gun show and I swear that man had not cleaned anything but the barrel since the day he got it. (Bore was pristine.) It had so much gunk in it. I went out and shot it and it ran perfectly with all that gunk. I did deep clean it after though. It still has the import legal grips on it.

All I saw/heard was Boris "The Blade" Yurinov: Heavy is good, heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work, you can always hit 'em with it.
This makes more sence than what I carry..... only hand gun I have currently is an 1851 navy...... yeah.... I carry a cap and ball revolver. It's kind of the only hand gun I have at the moment (intend on getting a more modern revolver at some point). Will say this, they're a hell of a lot more reliable than you would think once you learn how to load it right for long term storage.

I have one of those also. It is in my "Tuxedo gun" rotation for formal occasions. A very delightful handgun to carry. Very slim. The dimensions just seem to be perfect. I also have a Browning Model 1955 .380 (same as the FN M1910) that is equally great. But they are a little heavy (for a .32 and .380) by today's standards and the finish is not durable enough to be sweating all over them every day. I would love to see a polymer frame, durable finish exact copy of it though!

All valid reasons that I carry a Bersa Thunder 380 plus. Conceilable, supremely reliable, eats every ammo I've bought for it, inexpensive for those of us on a beer budget, all steel construction, and BONUS - 15 +1 capacity.
Bersa even has a 1/2 cock with safety on so the hammer cannot be impacted and set the gun off. Just set safety off and pull the hammer back ever so slightly until you hear/feel the first 'click'. I like that even though I prefer not to appendix carry. Consider the Bersa if you ever feel need to move on from the Mak. Bersa even has sigle stack variants of which one is a CC model for extra carry friendly features.
The takedown and safety/decocker are the same on my carry gun, a walther ppk. I love it. First gun I ever bought.
I fully agree it's somewhere between a great carry weapon and a good carry weapon, yes it's a little heavier than your today carry weapons and ammo is sometimes a little tuff to get, but the makorave is tough and is 99.99 % chance it will go bang when you need it to protect yourself or loved ones

You can get special holster that you push down and it will pull the slide back as you push the pistol through the holster if I am correct it was made for special forces who carried them.
EFA-2k, I actually have one. Not practical, but super neat.
