To correct a point, William Arnold is the singer--so a male singer, though I can see how the mistake could be made.
Spot on interpretation of Pantheon as a character though. Atreus was forced to do battle as an Aspect of War that took over his body. Pantheon (the aspect) was defeated by a Darkin Aatrox (evil demony dude). But through force of will, Atreus survived as the aspect of war died, and continues to fight as a man.
Also, to echo others, Jhin's theme, Ornn's, Kindred's and Taliyah's are all worth checking out.

@@MarcoMeatball fun fact that you mentioned the female singer as a touch of vulnerability to him, because that is also part of his backstory! When climbing Mount Targon(before becoming ascended) he lost his best friend, which was climbing alongside him. His friend's wife, Iula, remains a prominent character in his lore, a friend who has forgiven him even though Pantheon could never forgive himself, a friend that pushes him to keep fighting and not give up but also a safe place. she represents the home he left behind, the ones he wants to protect, why he fights. This brings a great deal of sensitivity to his character! In recent lore he has a breakdown and visit's her, in this interaction we see how broke Atreus is by all the stuff that happened to him. (Also bonus points to the lore team that made her not a love interest just a best friend too.)

Also a really cool fact (I'm pretty sure at least) about that "metal" part at the middle of the theme is eerily similar to Aatrox's theme, the character who killed Pantheon (The god that was controlling Atreus which was, and now is yet again the man himself) and in turn Atreus was able to take hold of his body once more and is now opposing all gods like Pantheon since they kinda enslave humans. They just kept the name "Pantheon" when they wrote his new lore as to not confuse older players into thinking Pantheon the character was gone.

Name a more iconic duo than Marco and "Going in totally blind to a character theme and nailing the lore/backstory 100%". As others have said, you got it absolutely right; well done as always. Pantheon's theme is one of my favorites from League; it always gets me pumped. In terms of other character themes from the game, the other commenters are correct that Jhin's is very complex and layered, and Volibear's and Ornn's are rousing and primal (all three are great) but I'm a bit sad no one seems to be standing up for Pyke's theme in the comments. It's very straightforward, but it has buckets of atmosphere, style, and is a hell of a fun listen. Welcome to the rabbit hole!

He picks it up again after he confronts the ASPECT of the sun. It's been said many times down here but it's awesome how well you can see the story the composers are telling. I snorted when you said "spartan" because that is literally pantheon's design in one word. A lot of his in-game lines refer to how he always sees himself as nothing but a man ("I wear a helm so I am only a soldier") but still rises to defend people against the gods ("caught between darkin and aspect, we will rise in spite of them"), so you were spot on about his sense of honor as well as him never truly wanting to fight - he is a protector. He even has lines wondering whether he will ever return to his farm.

I find it so interesting how you managed to get literally every single aspect of Pantheon/Atreus's character and story from his theme alone!
From his warrior upbringing, based on loyalty and inner strength to how he's been enslaved and used against his will, to the darker tones of his struggle with Aatrox under the aspec of war's control, to finally being free and reclaiming himself triumphantly and re-forging that godly strength into something all his own.
IMO, shows how much thought the composers working on this piece put into it and how loved this character is as well by everyone involved.

The league themes are generally very good. World of Warcraft ones too, so since you're branching out here I really recommend the tracks "Arthas my Son" and "Invincible", they're amongst the most iconic gaming tracks there ever was. Though the likelihood that you already know those two is high, theres a newer World of Warcraft theme that I think rival them while being less known called "Anduins theme", but since it isn't actually put into a full track for some reason, it is split up into multiple versions, I recommend the video called "Anduins theme fallen king remix".

I like how the music basically tells the whole of his story.
He starts as a warrior that never surrenders, no matter how many times he's knocked down. And the music reflects that by using the most human instrument there is, the voice. Atreus is a man, he is human
Then he gets overtaken by the aspect of war, we lose that chanting that represents Atreus, and we get a sort of... war march, I guess? Which makes sense because Pantheon IS the aspect of war, the divine representation of strife and yadda yadda. But we know that the divinity that occupies Atreus' body gets slain by aatrox because thems the breaks, pal
And in that moment, the voice comes back, stronger and prouder than ever. The god perishes, and the human remains. No matter how many times he gets knocked down, he'll get back up and continue the fight no matter what. The indomitable human spirit.
But hot DAMN look at those abs dude! Wow. Truly a masterpiece carved by the NOT THE GODS BECAUSE FUCK EM
    Carved by himself
As a big hot man, with men all over.
    Man.

That line, possibly the saddest one he has, fits in so well with one of the gods of my group's D&D setting. Maurn the Weary is a war god who hates war. One who bears the burden of every last dead soldier's soul as he carries them across the Bone River. One who has instructed his followers in the way of soothing the itch of phantom limbs and calming the old veteran who awakens in the dark of night screaming for fallen friends. A god who wanders through the cherry forests and poppy fields, crying for all whose fields have gone fallow, whose boats have rotted in the docks, and whose wives must return to a cold, empty bed.

Atreus body got forced to fight against Aatrox who mortaly wounded the body and killed Pantheon, the god.
Atreus got freed from the influence of Pantheon and finally has the control over his own fate. He now uses the godly powers that remained in a war against the same gods that have taken away his normal life so that noone has to be their playthings anymore.

The thing I love about Pantheon's theme is that it's the tune for worlds collide too in which they mention "can we bring to fall the giants" which fits Pantheon given his lore and the fact he is capable of killing a god

  • @EthanClack

The beautiful thing about the song is that in the character's story Pantheon is being controlled by a God to fight.
Later in the song we get to a part of low brass and a grungy guitar going back and forth. That grungy guitar is a tiny piece of the theme of Aatrox the world ender. This is depicting that to two are fighting. Exchanging blows just like the brass and guitar are exchanging riffs. There is a buildup of the epic battle then silence.
From this one would think that because you hear no more both are dead. In pantheon's lore after a fatal injury the God that was controlling pantheon died but pantheon lived.
This is shown in the song by means of after that silent pause you hear a much more powerful and emotional version of the previous chorus. Depicting that he is now free and no longer shackled by control. As the chorus continues you notice the powerful vocals begin taking a more softer set of notes compared to the instruments. Suggesting that now pantheon may settle down and live his life but the legend still continues in the music of the brass

The last Pantheon(Atreus) story released shows him beaten up and almost dead, after the Ruination event, he is taken care off by his close friend and widow of his best friend, Pillas, Atreus is shown to just be so tired of fighting...questioning himself, "Why should I pick up the spear? Why can't I just lay down and rest? Haven't I suffered enough?"
He even cries at his friends feet like a child, showing how much he has fought and how much tired he is feeling...
There is much more in just this short story alone, I would recomend you read it! it's one of the most self-contained stories in league

Also, day 5 of requesting The Scion’s Dance in Purgatory from Fire Emblem - although I realize it’s a bit short, isn’t it? If it’s too short for content, perhaps you could do a video where you react to 2/3 short songs? Not sure!

You feel he'd never stab someone in the back? Well, kind of. Looking up his quotes, I realised when he's banned he states "Flee and my spear will find your back"
But also, some of his quotess after killing an enemy are "Stand up! Face me again!" and "I will remember your name and shout it to the heavens!"
He wants his enemy to be at their very best. Absolutely one of my favourite characters.

Pantheon believes that humanity can overcome any struggle through the sheer power and spirit of their humanity and that they don't need Gods to do their fighting for them, and he defies any who would say otherwise - refusing to stay down when beaten and always getting back up again.
"Stand back up, and never be defeated."

I thought the introduction of the electric guitar in the centre alongside pantheon's motif was really great, because it calls back to Aatrox's music a lot, and a key part of Pantheon's lore is that while he was the Aspect of War, he fought a huge battle which ended up in the Aspect being killed and Aatrox being hideously wounded, and I think that almost represented that battle.

  • @Hamlettte

I love the 100% accurate description of Pantheon with just his theme alone.
Pantheon or more accurately Atreus was a warrior who's only defining quality was that he never gave up no matter what. In every battle he fought and lost, he would ran a lap around the moutain in order to train himself harder. He wanted to become stronger in order to protect his people but when he seeked that power along with his closest friend only one of them returned but even Atreus did not return as himself, what returned was the aspect of War, Pantheon, who fought and battle after battle using his body that the god took control over, but Pantheon was ultimately felled by a creature known as the Darkin, Aatrox, the god killer. What should have been Atreus' end along with the god that took over his body, he miraculously survived due to his own will to live.
Now living as a man with a dead god inside of him, Atreus continues to fight but not as an Aspect but as Atreus himself
