For everyone asking the clear stuff is Queen Glucose Syrup
Thanks!
I scrolled a lot for this answer. Big thanks to you.
Jesus.
It looked scary😮😱😋
😳 thank god
Glucose syrup?! No thanks for me! :D
this guy just knows how to cook everything
His level of devotion to research and development and learning how things are actually made is beautiful. He typically uses the right ingredients in the right ratios to make it as "correct" as he can.
Hence the name
I’m so jealous of his wife ha jj 😁
You watched the video and have access to the recipe so now you know also.
It's not that hard
I hv Never seem a Celebrity Chef so competent in that many international cuisines n he cooks them like a native! 🎉
chef andy is one of the best and he really loves food from around the globe.
Seriously man me either! Not even Gordan Ramsay does it like Andy IMO
He's not a celebrity chef though
Cooking is not that difficult to learn....
Study, observation, practice would be my guess. He and the editing team do make it all look so incredibly easy though.
The best thing is Andy washing off the spice bowl with water, making sure that nothing is wasted 😅😅😊
My mom would always do that with her sauces!
‘Waste not want not’ , or as my 3 yr old niece said in all seriousness as she took bits of lettuce off my plate “want not want not” . She’s now a mother of three herself 😹
Brunei word for that is kurahan or the action is kurah-kurah. That’s a very chefy thing to do actually.
I do It!!!!
Yes me too always
As a Korean, I approve and happy for your Ttook-bokki(떡볶이) vid! You can also try adding some soy sauce and garlic to the sauce, gives an extra kick to the flavor!
Heys what’s that gluey thing he added?
@@hass89corn syrup. He has the recipe in the video description.
@@hass89 Corn syrup or Rice syrup or anything like that. Any of them would work.
Please someone, explain what this is.
My ADHD won't let me Google it
@@pv3Hpv3p Tteokbokki or Corn Syrup? Tteokbokki is as you see it in this video. Corn syrup/Rice syrup is a very sweet, thick substance that changes the texture of foods when cooked. For instance, you can create any candies from Corn Syrup from Lollipops and Hard candies to fondant and marshmallows depending upon how high of a temperature it reaches.
I haven't had this since I did study abroad in Korea, it's the best
As a korean myself i can verify this comment.
Oh my Goodness, I cook it everytime while living in Seoul, but I didn't get what is the glassy liquid glue he just put into the bowl with gochujang?
@@arren_ru corn syrup or glucose. Click on the description to find the recipe
@@arren_ruMaybe some type of thick sweetener?
Corn syrup or in Australia it’s called Glucose
YES! Another slam dunk from Andy. He always does my favorite East Asian dishes. Last time it was Okonomiyaki and this time it's Tteok-bokki. Keep them coming!
I think the main reason he does so well with international dishes is he simply uses the right ingredients.
Yeah but not complete.
I can’t express how good it feels when he lines his ingredients up
Like he’s about to craft greatness
Love your videos chef❤
mise en place done right always looks good
Awesome! Some (optional) tips for this dish: (1) soak the rice cakes in water for about 15-20 minutes before cooking to get a more smoother rice cake texture - useful for people who struggle with digestion issues; (2) use myeolchi (dried anchovies) and seaweed broth instead of beef for a more traditional taste - or if youre pescatarian (simply boil the ingredients together, the longer the tastier); (3) add ramyeon for an added treat; (4) stir fry with rice at the end for "Korean dessert"
What's ramyeon?
@@andrewwashere82basically just ramen
@@andrewwashere82Korean word for ramen
What was the thick clear stuff he was squeezing into the mixture?
@@Sentientdreamer I think that was glucose/corn syrup (I'm guessing cause he lists it as an ingredient in the description and it fits).
thanks for adding all the ingredients so now i know how to make it!
Yo, I like this guy. He does some really neat stuff. What's better than a good plate in your belly to make you feel good 😊

Ooh adding mozzarella cheese on top goes really well as well! And it helps with the spice :)
Ikr right i was like where is the cheese
"Viral trend" makes it sound like it's some random thing people created on TikTok or Twitter, but it's a classic comfort food for Koreans everywhere.
I didnt expect to see you cook and eat my people's all time soul food thank you!
What’s the clear thick vicious gel he puts in after the gochujang ??
@@jwoz8517that will be mr.corn syrup.
Ingredients are listed below.
@@jwoz8517 That's what I'm wondering. my first thought is like corn syrup but that's usually colored and super sweet so that would taste like candy lol. I need to know!
@@jwoz8517 normally we just put sugar or starch syrup to make it sweet i prefer sugar though
@@MerikRelian if you taste teokbokki in the street it will be much sweeter than you cook it at

Mmmm I love tteokbokki! You should try rabokki next time. It is exactly the same but with instant noodles as well. Super delicious!
Still waiting on the Cantonese family style dinner for Heun Wah please chef!
You're not asking for a dish, you're asking for a spread of dishes. Give it up. It's like asking him to do an Italian Sunday family dinner, it just isn't feasible.
It's double triple carbo😅
@@MetalfacejoelThey just mentioned dishes. There’s no harm in that.

Tteokbokki really takes me back to my childhood. I remember when I didn't have much to eat my mother would make this for me. It really is simple and delicious.
Requesting for Tapsilog again btw
Omg I love your videos ..and I adore Korean cuisine sm…i wanted to see this since longgg😘😘
you can also use dashi water or chicken stock to enhance the flavor of the sauce!
That’s the only way I know how to do it
I misread that the first time and thought you said "Dish water". Lol 😆
Yeah I've only used those two as well...he used beef stock and now I'm curious..probably tastes great.
Yes! I came to say this! I use 멸치 for my stock tho.
Is there any substitute for the corn syrup/glucose ? Those aren’t diabetes friendly (nor is the sugar, but it’s not so much for the whole pot)
As a korean, i approve. Maybe add some ramen noodles, which goes quite well with it.
Cant wait for a Chef Wang Gang and Chef Andy collab. Two best chefs on TH-cam.
Looking fantastic!!!
Mmmmm I love to try Tteokbokki one day
Also I'm still waiting for Lao Sausage for Saeng 🇱🇦
Laos mentioned
Nice! It is so addictive. Using broth and adding soy source can make it taste deep.
Tteokbokki is so good! i have a lower spice tolerance so I like making mine (usually from the semi-instant kits) with half milk half water, then topped with lots of cheese. Makes the sauce really creamy and mellows out the spice a bit.
Wonderfully done! 👏
Looks great 👍
Why i love my korean wife.
Food is the best
This guy has the skill, the knowledge, the passion, the equipment, and most importantly, the respect for all kinds of food

The tube things are rice cakes, the triangle things are fish cakes according to my internet search. Looks yum.
Thanks for keeping it simple Andy!
I like to add cheese on top. Tastes amazing.
I always add a touch of sesame oil and sesame seeds as a garnish. Absolutely looks amazing though.
The Korean Englishmen need to see this 😊
As a Korean australian this was so wonderful to see. Thank you for sharing our culture!!
Looking good Chef! Are we going to see you travel to Korea? You should do a Collab with Korean English Man.

How interesting! What's the thing you cut into triangles?
Korean fish cakes
I had this for the first time at a korean BBQ place in the UK last week and it was insane. I definitely want it again!
Calling Ddeokboki a viral trend is wild.
Like calling cheeseburgers a viral trend in America
pretty sure he meant the fact that food influencers are randomly starting to all make videos on it, not the fact that it exists...
Was looking for this comment. Literally wtf?
I had a wtf expression on my face when I heard 'viral trend + Ddeokbokki (Tt) from Andy's mouth!
Yea, lost a lot of respect for this guy
Fruitbat soup from Palau please!!
how about Fuitbat soup from Wuhan City
Thought id never see him make something he enjoys but Im happy i finally got to see it
Looks pretty good!
Tteokbokki is not a ‘viral trend’ lol
It's a viral trend in a sense, since alot of foreigners have only been introduced to it through social media relatively recently.
Viral trend? Tteok-Bokki has been around forever and its amazing ♥
Looks great!
Woo! I've been waiting for this one :D
pro tip, making a quick stock from dried anchovies and seaweed to add it in with really takes it to the next level. Saw that from Maangchis tteokboki video :)

Love how Andy keeps it original 👌so on point
Just a suggestion, it's better to boil the spicy sauce first then put the rice & fish cakes, then the vesggies. This way, there is more flavor in the sauce, the rice cakes will still be chewy, and the veggies will still be fresh & crunchy
Other cultures aren't just a viral trend, but I do enjoy watching you make food :))
I have been in love with teok bokki since u tried it. Its so damn good
Another banger video, Andy!!! You're a legend, mate!
This guy is so good at his craft. I am still not over the authentic biriyani he made once!! Love watching him❤
