You can get some resettable atc breakers and save a bunch of fuses. Amazon has them. Pretty handy for this type of work.

Great Tool. A friend of mine, that works at a car dealership, gave me one about a year ago. Yes very handy tool.
    Thanks for sharing.

I've owned a power probe for about 15yrs. Recently upgraded to probe 3. They are a must have for diagnosing tractor-trailer ABS systems & electric over hydraulic systems on some mowers & equipment. Sure beats the box of clips, jumpers, & fuses I used when I first started in the shop.

I had the exact same problem with a Ariens mower. To stop wasting fuses, take a 12v bulb, like a parking light, an solder pig tails to the fuse. The bulb will light brightly. stop wiggling the wire, if it goes out you located the area of the problem

I have power probe 4 & ECT3000 saves so much time finding shorts and open wires i also use a loadpro to check if there is corrosion in the wires sometimes .

Nice tool . I dislike electrical issue trouble shooting. Only thing I’d do different is cut the wire a little longer fold it and tape and secure it with a zip tie so it doesn’t bounce around grounding out on metal . Thanks for putting up the link to that tool . I’ll be checking it out . Thanks

    • @Mechanicturfgear

Got it and solved a issue I was having on a start circuit . To bad the schematic didn’t show the blown 15 amp fuse tucked on the underside of wiring harness .👍👍

You might want to invest in a plug in circuit breaker that plugs into the fuse holder instead of blowing up multiple fuses. I believe they sell them at Harbor Freight in different values.

When used properly they're great. When used by an incompetent mechanic it's great for me when they drop the car off so I can repair fried drivers / circuit boards in ECU modules, instrument clusters etc.

Thinking I'm gonna get one of them power probes 👍
Also wondering why ur mower don't have no fuel shut off solenoid? Is it because they can be more trouble than their worth?

i've looked at these and all the clones out there. there's a few things i'm not sure about them whether i'd like one or not. for what they are the price is the biggest factor. secondly those leds light with such little power ,you may only have 1 strand of wire left. you get similar results from a dvom on continuity or ohms scale. i do like the long cord and the ability to hook direct to the battery and on some models it will plug into a power outlet.

Obviously this worked and didn’t take much time, but would this have been an opportunity to use the short/open tracer? I’d like to see a video on that if you have an opportunity to show it off…

Wow! I've seen ribbon cables thicker than that. That was one squashed wire. LOL

  • @gratzbuck9882
    @gratzbuck9882 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Good video but in accordance with Murphy's Law, you need to tape-up the end of that wire you snipped off before it vibrates around and contacts ground again.

      It’s all good
But thanks for the concern. I wouldn’t tape It.I used my marine Amphenol connector removal tool and just removed the pin off camera.

I see you're a Sta-Bil fan. Did you know that Sta-Bil does not actually blend with the gas, but rather provides a skim coat that lays over the top of the fuel and helps to prevent oxygen/air from reaching thre fual and deteriorating it? One thing I personally would have done different on this fix, would be to have cut those wires 2-3" farther up from the connector. That way, you could simply pull the wires through the back side of the starter, and then use a but connector to re-attach those wires to that you could have extended from to damaged area. I think "you" could have found the electrical issue without the probe... Oh, and hey, clean that motor....haha Thx

Instead of cutting you could just remove it (the pin) from the plug.

Yep, I got a couple of different de-pinning tools. Very handy and cheap. That would be the “pro” way to do it.
