    I've had the hook for years now, and do a lot of electrical diagnostics, it's been amazing! Being able to supply PWMs, REF.v, real-time amperage readouts, and the hot shot circuit check has been surprisingly good

    I bought an original Powerprobe about 20-ish years ago. At the time, a game changer for diagnosing 12v circuits. Recently I took it out of the bag to do some work and it was dead. I was sad. I went shopping for another. I had no idea how advanced these had gotten. I shopped and decided on a PP3. The price, combined with what I need for, made it perfect for me. It's already paid for itself. I wish I had need for a Hook. Can't justify it since I'm no longer in the business.

    This has been the most excellent video imaginable in terms of actually understanding the tool. So many videos are filled with fluff that was absent here. It was a true joy to listen to the explanations beginning to end. It was a surprise to find the probe was NOT A FOX AND HOUND. You actually have to get the ECM kit for that. Someday fox and hound will be built in. For now, you get a diagnostic probe. Just a great vid and wonderful explanation. It's probably a good idea to listen to this twice.

    Great rundown on the newer (at least to me, anyway) power probes. I still just have my trusty PP3 that has served me well for many years, but was wondering what the newer models had to offer. I've been out of the mechanic field due to a bad leg injury, and related health issues, but I still tinker on my and my friend's cars. I was looking to upgrade my PP3, and wanted to make sure that I'm getting the most bang for my buck. I'm on disability so money is very tight. Your video was very helpful. I like to tinker and help my friends out because it makes me still feel useful. LOL!

    I'D take the hook over any of the other power probe ones any day of the week. It does everything the others do and then some. IF you need one tool to do it all that can handle a steady 25 amp load and 65 amp load for 8 seconds this is the tool for you. Power probe just keeps improving upon themselves.
    Power Probe has did so well with the tool that snap on has power probe make the multi probe tool for them under contract.
    I'm sure we'll see something new such as the power probe with built in 5volt reference adapter sold separately for the power probe now so you dobt accidentally take out the ECM or sensitive electrical components.
    Main reason I have so many is probably like most mechanics, I get a new one each time they come out thinking they're going to wow me.
    Maybe Power Probe should have a upgrade or trade up program based on the condition of the one you exchange as they can reuse the parts or even donate the omdee one's to countries where people are wanting to learn this tech but can't quite afford the tools. We see people from all over the world and some in poor nations that want to better themselves. What better way than for Power Probe or another auto industry company than to donate to them.

    I have the Hook and the 3. My biggest issue with the hook is that when you are testing a circuit the display seems to have a bit of a lag before it registers. I find this a little frustrating when you are running through fuses quickly. The 3 registers instantaneously. Other than that, the hook is a great tool. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced the slight delay with the hook, or am I imagining things?

    • @JRC54
      @JRC54  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes I noticed it lags too. The guy at tech support said it's because it has the smart tip technology, it has to register the circuit before it shows the reading

    • @cbmech2563
      @cbmech2563 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can switch to either a straight voltmeter or ohmmeter function and bypass the smart tip function and don't have the delay. It depends on what you're looking for.

    The hook does not have fuel injector testing mode.....
    That’s only on on the PPIV..... and first effective diagnostic use of that feature means the tool has paid for itself right there......
    For the auto guys and auto DIYers that feature alone is worth it let alone all the other stuff given one injector can cost 300 bucks and there’s 8 of them......

  • @craigstreetzel7743
    @craigstreetzel7743 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    considering they are all made by powerprobe if you want the detached part that is how you end up getting the snap on 😂 but you don't have a choice but at least they are all powerprobe no matter what the impression on the plastic 🤔 but it was a lot better than the way everyone was doing it for it previous 100+ years and not a lot of tools that you see the biggest brand of the professional tech and I have mac and honestly its a lot of people using gearwrench without a problem and they're made over seas and lifetime warranty and advance is open to 9 pm and you don't have to wait for the next time truck shows up i have both but I would get the gearwrench set and they're u to like 30 mm and 20 + inches long so they are ready for battle but the snap on is made by powerprobe
