- Ghostface is a legend in the horror genre, so it feels like SCREAM would be perfect for Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights event. Actually, a SCREAM haunted house was well into construction before being abruptly abandoned and rethemed to The Purge. In this video, let's take a look back at what happened to HHN 25's SCREAM maze.

For us in Hollywood, California we had scream 4 as the terror tram in 2011, but unfortunately scream has not came back ever since.
Man it just just hurts hearing about how we were very close to getting an actual Scream scare maze. Hopefully this year or at least sometime in the future we'd finally see that happening especially with Scream 5 being such a big hit.
The hype feels like we're bound to get a Scream house this year! Only time will tell.

As limp as Purge was, it was better than a TV-show Scream would have been, and kudos to the dev team for sticking to their guns like that.
Trivia fact, though... I used to work for LiftMaster, and the first Scream's garage door scene caused SO much trouble for the company. Despite the fact what happened in the movie is literally physically impossible the way openers are designed, people were really terrified of being killed like that. Meanwhile, me knowing how openers work takes me right out of that scene every time.

Intersting to learn what happend as I went to the 25th Anniversary HHN. The Purge one was fun, mainly due to a scare actor getting me good, but I would have loved to have seen a Scream one.
Ghostface is always teasing us HHN fans 🙃

While this last minute theme change may have worked for a lesser known park/venue, IMO people expect a higher standard from a place like Universal. Personally, I dont mind paying higher prices to go to these parks/events because to me the price is justified through the quality of the experience.
The last minute theme change for an anniversary event seemed more like a scramble to ensure the revenue of this annual event by using whatever they could quickly transform, not a 25 year celebration of anything in general.
These kinds of situations happen from time to time when licensed properties fall through. Universal does a pretty good job making up for it (such as the case with the scrapped Billie Eilish house), but the timing was pretty bad in this case.

I still don’t understand why the team won’t bring Scream back to the event, now that the franchise is under new hands and the new movies have been making billions of dollars.
Absolutely. It's really one of the few major franchises HHN hasn't gotten a hold of yet. I hope that changes sometime soon.

I would love to have seen Scream get a house, especially with how the Purge house that replaced Scream disappointed me.
That was one of my least favorite houses as it wasn't scary and it had way too many strobe lights and was too noisy.
I really didn't like that house and this probably explains why

What movie or TV show do you wish would come to Halloween Horror Nights?
I know its in Disney, but I want a HHN Twilight Zone walk thru, a walk thru fits better for Twilight Zone, than Tower of Terror
For a movie franchise, I want a Final Destination (even though I never seen any of them)
Gremlins, Little Shop of Horrors, and Five Nights at Freddy’s. I think there is more, but that’s the best I can come up from the top of my head.

It seems like the TV show took itself more seriously. That would be my guess as to why they wanted the less cartoony mask. There's a reason it doesn't compare to the original!

They should convince them ppl not to use the MTV scream and stick to the OG. Im not even kidding after season one and two it was cancel asap. Nobody didnt even pay attendtion. Some fans yes. But It was corny and come on its mtv... like... no. It was dumbest choice ever made. Honestly would made fans happy. And everone gets a win
Executives get the final say, but I think enough time has passed to give it another stab. I'm hoping the Scream reboot films have started the conversation again!
