It's amazing that there were so few coaster that even came close to reproducing this type ride for 100 years. It took 90 years for RMC to come along and get the industry going in the right direction. But look what was already done 100 years ago.
So ahead of its time!
Great video. I still work at the engineering firm that did all the plumbing, air conditioning and fire protection for Suess Landing. Although our team wasn’t involved in the ride mechanics, I remember all of us being disappointed that it wasn’t going to open (after seeing all the original design plans for the ride). We also did this same type of engineering for the rest of the island, including the restaurant and other rides. I was able to go on site a few times during early construction. Great memories, and I’ve since brought my kids here many times.
Thanks for commenting! It must've been interesting engineering an area like that with all the odd designs.
I would have loved Kitchen Kabaret. It's kind of sad because it seems like Disney's attractions is based on just their franchises and nothing OG like this or Captain EO. Kind of blows, this would have been fun to see the way the anamatronics have evolved.
Disney definitely takes a different approach nowadays. They have a massive catalogue of content, so they don't take the risk of original attractions anymore.

@@StorybookAmusement Nice!
I've been an annual passholder since the opening year, but never saw the show. My wife and I thought about it but weren't in Toon Lagoon when the showtimes were available. We kept saying that we'd walk back around later to catch a show, but either lost track of time and missed the later showings, or forgot about it altogether. On later visits, we noticed that they weren't displaying any showtimes on the map, and asked employees what was going on. Only to get shrugged shoulders and an "I don't know." from them. Then a year later all the signage was gone and still no answers from employees. Thanks for posting this video, because now I've not only got my answer 25 years later, but also got to experience some of the show I missed. I just hate seeing that show building tucked back there, standing but not operating, still after all these years. It's just such wasted space. I really wish they'd raze it and replace it with a dark ride or a family-style spinning coaster.
Bummer that you missed it! I was around at that time too (as a kid) and never even knew about it until years later. It's sad it opened and closed so fast. I fully agree with your dark ride idea. I would love a Rocky & Bullwinkle dark ride in that spot, even though it probably wouldn't be all that popular haha.
BGE and AG is an absolutely wild time scale.
It's the definitive format
SF STL (original Six Flags over Mid America) was my home park. I was a tiny child who was always terrified of "[Derogatory term] Joe's Cave" and usually kept my eyes closed through most of it. I remember the surreal image of the Chief rowing a canoe made of a rib cage which was really eerie in black light. I went on Time Tunnel a lot and still remember the trippy electronic theremin music and unintelligible radio broadcasts you'd hear in the final "space" scene. At one point the finale exit was a post-armageddon city with smoking ruins and bent street signs and a hooded movie-projected face like Gandalf hovering that gave a monologue to the effect of "You have travelled the corridors of time; what has been and what _might beeeee..."_ The "Dark Castle" brief period was basically just a temporary Fright Nights Halloween overlay with stone walls and scary mannequins that I think they just didn't feel like taking down before they did the next renovation and left up for part of a year. In college, we jokingly referred to Castaway Kids as "River of Ethnically Diverse Two-Dimensional Children who Bob and Weave" - the characters had one scene as static statues, then were flat cutouts that just wobbled via a motor from behind bushes. Scooby Doo was a major improvement.
Those are good memories. 😅 Thanks for sharing!
I LOVED Kitchen Kabaret!! I remember the time I first went to Disney when I was 16. I got into a huge fight with my mother so I took off and stayed at Kitchen Kabaret for the rest of the day. I just loved the show and the music, the characters, etc. Bonnie Apetit was so adorable. One of the cutest and best animatronics I had ever seen. I must have done the show 20+ times that day. I just loved it and remember that day so well! Good Times!
I'm jealous of that memory! I would've loved to see it just once, but that sounds like the perfect day. Thanks for sharing!
I’ll take the goofy golf ball any day of the week over what’s happening now
I kinda don't blame you at all
My final memory of Food Rocks is so mixed...it''s a little sad and little nice. It was and remains the only time I have ever been completely alone in a show. I'd been in a show with one or two other families/people yet never fully alone. I walked in, and I was literally the only person there. My family was lagging behind (we were meeting there), they asked me if I was alone and if I would like to wait for them so they held the show for us. The cast members then proceeded to have some fun with us making jokes about it being crowded and to quiet down for the safety instructions lol. We watched the show and since everyone was aware it was closing soon enough, and since this was also their last show of the day they asked us if we would like to take some pictures with the stage as the curtains had malfunctioned so everyone was still out. We did and afterwards, being the youngest kid they gave me some stickers and even a food rocks trading pin. Apologized for the malfunctions (some effects hadn't worked properly as well) and walked us out of the area. I felt really bad about it because..they didn't know I hated the show. I never liked kitchen kabaret, I hated the designs of animatronics, and only really liked the look of the milk cartoon/food wrapper. Yet the kindness of the workers was so sweet I still have the things they gave me all these years later somewhere. Despite my hatred I loved how unique this show was in many ways..yet mostly I really miss the days when Disney had multiple shows going on at once. I loved Legend of the Lion King, Mickey's Revue. I miss all these unique non-screen based attractions and I was sad to lose that even if neither iteration of this show was for me.
That's a sweet story though! I feel like that kind of interaction wouldn't happen today. Thanks for sharing that story!
@@StorybookAmusement As I wrote it out I was thinking that exact thing, what a different climate it is today...They would probably usher us out quickly and tell us to not take our phones out rather than make it a fun/memorable moment. Yet what happened when the Universe of Energy closed is really the closest one would ever have to that kind of experience today. I am very fortunate to have a lot of fun memories like this. : )

Great video of my favorite theme park. Thank you!
Mine too! Thanks for watching
The creativity that went into this is unmatched, I love all the different Goofy designs and I feel like this fits in perfectly at Disney. I wish I could see it myself in person cause this looks amazing.
Good point! The creativity is through the -goof- roof. Disney's output is very squeaky clean now.
I remember the milk song from food rocks, but I wish I could see the original show
Well, they could bring the Kitchen Kabaret back, just in a more Modern Version and maybe with Disney Characters, who have more Impact as unknown Food Items. After what I know from America and the Trash they call food there, it would maybe be helpfull to made People Aware stuff like Food who are made mostly with Suggar/HFCS and other Carbohydrates are no Cereals but Candy, Food who is processed is not always Healthy, American Bread is not Bread but an eddible Yoga Matt, american Cheese is no real Cheese, american Softdrinks are liquid Candy and made you Fat and look on the Ingrediences and Nutritional Values before you buy something and avoid anything with more as 3 chemical Additives and try to avoid artifical Colors/Flavors. Here in Germany we say, you want Trash Food go to America, you want healthy Food, go to Japan.
American food catching a stray 😅 but I totally get it. Yes! I think this show has value and could make some sort of a comeback with updated nutritional content. Thanks for watching!
Truly disappointing to see some truly great rides done away with over time
RIP Lost Continent 😔
Be honest, you just wanted to make a video with as many food and cooking puns as possible.
Too much seasoning?
I loved Both shows
Nice! What's your favorite song from them?
Oh no I missed it
We all did 😔
I wish it was still an edutainment park, I find that more entertaining than intellectual property themed attractions.
It's hanging onto a nice blend of the two, but the former is going extinct one by one 😞
bonus points to those who found Peter Griffin
lol I absolutely loved this video 😅 it was quite goofy and humorous
Well thank you 🤝
Too punny my dude.
Sorry 🫡
Could you please make a video on walibi Belgium please 🙏
I'll look into it!
@@StorybookAmusementThank you!
I saw this when i visited Epcot in 2003!
Nice! What'd you think of it then?
@@StorybookAmusement A fun little show with some decent music
This is really cool!
Will you talk about the Mickey Mouse revue
Great idea 💡!
It's on the list! Hopefully I'll get that far in the list...
Can we bring back chaotic, unapologetic, not afraid to try random things Disney again? I feel like today’s product is just full of think tanks, consumer research and corporate bottom lines.
They gotta start putting goofball in more disney projects
It should be the new Hidden Mickey. Sprinkle it all over.
i wish I could drive that Goofy pace car
Imagine casually driving it to the store
You should've seen how tokyo disneyland celebrated donald's 65th birthday in 1999. That and many other donald duck related stuff that happened there makes me feel like donald's really popular in Japan along with some other countries when searching donald's popularity.
Just looked it up 😅 I love it
@StorybookAmusement and the fact they made an entire vhs to promote it is hilarious!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@StorybookAmusement oh and this is most likely out of my worries but I think I should tell you something real quick: if you ever do decide to review Donald's Wacky Kingdom here on TH-cam (in anyway way like the litteral full event and vhs or just the parade with slight mentions of everything else) I think you might want to talk to disney dan before doing so just incase. You see disney dan awhile back actually gave everyone his looks and opinions on mickey mania and even the world according to goofy. I mean he hasn't done it in a while but somewhere this year I comment him asking if he would be interested in doing a video taking a look at Wacky Kingdom because I strangely feel like that event (especially the parade) might fit in very well with his other reviews of the mickey and Goofy Parades. And the comment I originally made which we replied too wasn't originally a video request (heck I wasn't sure if you would even see it) but since you looked it up I'm taking into consideration if you did decide to review it you might want to talk to Dan first because even though he didn't reply to the comment I made or gave it one of those heart things (whatever they're called) I'm sorta unsure if he saw it or not and I don't want to be the reason that this could or couldn't cause a rift or something between you two. It's just that sometimes I get curious about people's opinions for something and I sometimes like to make my own like you, Dan, and others do here on TH-cam (heck before I even made these comments to you and Dan I was interested in doing a review of Wacky Kingdom myself but unsure if I should do it because it might be really hard since it happened during a time before online news articles, everything being in Japanese and when translating things may or may not get lost or changed when trying to translate, and the fear of the sources probably having serious computer/phone viruses) but still I don't want either of you to be at a blame for doing sorta a similar video idea. Also sorry this is really long I didn't want another misunderstanding to happen because with words there's literally so many ways to take something.
@@christianryan7207 Thanks for putting so much care into your comment. I looked it up out of curiosity; I'm not sure I'd ever make a video about it. But thank you for your advice and concern!
@StorybookAmusement your welcome 👍
Never heard about this attraction at all since I was born in the early 2000s
I never got to see them either 😳
😩
I’d love to see a video about the “lost” original versions of Spaceship Earth and what still remains. The original 1982 Vic Perrin version of the ride is very obscure with very little footage surfacing over the years. Many of the 1994 descent effects still exist in the ride albeit abandoned. And of course there’s the infamous abandoned space station and “moon surface” scenes.
I actually just added SSE to my list the other day! Good timing. Thank you for the ideas.
Utensils, a U2 parody
So subtle, so clever
How come no one brings up how the Goofy Golfball has a snake on its head. The same snake that killed Cleopatra.
It’s mentioned here! And the snake beneath Clarapatra-just not that connection. 👀 So thanks!
Gee I sure hope this is just a good old plain parade. Oh what the heck! Not a Goofy Parade! Thanks for the upload. I do love Goofy. But that Goofball lives in my nightmares! ⚪️🐶🤪
It was the second best golf ball ever made for a Disney park, behind Spaceship Earth! But thanks for watching!
Gawrsh
Hyuck!!
I'm too young to remember Kitchen Kabaret (And I'm 31!) but Food Rocks was some pleasant memories. don't think we'll be getting any more shows like that though ever again, aside from updating the Country Bears. A relic of a bygone age of low wait times rides. Much improved video, kudos.
Thanks for watching! Theme parks are definitely a different pace nowadays. You're right. I wish Disney would revisit these types of attractions.
