I’m on my second VR&P fill. 127K now on a ‘12 Prius. The model year has a TSB for oil consumption due to low friction rings. Whilst no oil consumption yet, I was starting to smell fuel in the oil. PCV system slurps oil so installed an OCC too.
On the first start, after filling with R&P, the engine immediately was quieter/smoother running. I’ve noticed many other commenters say this too. On the first fill change the oil smelled of less fuel.
From what I can see of the valve train through the filler cap, it’s crazy clean in there now. I’ve yet to see a reviewer of VR&P say Valvoline’s claims about this product are untrue.

I had an “oil production” issue in my wife’s 2011 Honda CR-V K24 engine (not Direct Injection). Fuel dilution was at nearly 5% using GC method. Replaced all injectors with new Honda original and no change.
After several ~3K oil changes with Valvoline Restore & Protect, I am below 2% on the last 5K oil change. The data tells me it is working.

Keen to see how your experiments turn out. Running on a well looked after RX330 and on a LS430 with patchy service history. Both have been running Mobil 0w40 in my ownership which is known for cleaning. I feel R&P is very expensive here in Aus; but its OK when on special (recently 30% off)

Just tried this stuff on my sisters 2013 Accent. She had just gone 6000 miles on a conventional oil change and when I checked it was down almost 2 qts. She has 153,000 miles and from what i can see hers looked way worse than this one. Car calls for 5w20 here in the states but I'm running the 5w30. Have about 1500 miles on this 1st change and it has not burned any oil. I'll be changing it soon because i'm a little worried about the filter. Then i'll probably do 3000 mile changes.

@@nomu5815 i changed the oil and filter again at 1600 miles. It had only burned a tiny bit. (like one tenth of a quart) She went 7000 miles without checking it and it was cheap oil they use at the quick change place. At that point it was down about 1.75 qts and the thing only takes 3.5. I think the stuff is working great. I can see the sludge kind of flaking off the valve cover. I think 7000 mile change intervals are crazy on this little 1.6. Have not seen her in a few weeks so I have not checked but the plan is to dump it again at 3000 miles and I'll let you know how much it burned. do you have a 1.6? Let me know how it goes with yours.

@@briankalagher6687 Thanks for the update it looks like its working for your sister. I have the exact same car 1.6. Just did oil change only been 100miles. I usually get a oil change at about 3-4k so I'll see how it goes. I usually have to top it off multiple times before even reaching 3k sadly.

@@nomu5815 I think this is the perfect car to test this stuff. I'm trying to keep it going so her son can have a car in a couple years. The oil looked weird to me at 1500 miles. It was both clean and dirty. Like golden oil but tons of tiny black specs and that's why i decided to change it. I may bump it up to 10w 30 high milage valvoline this summer after a couple more restore and protect 5w30 changes. (i cant get anything heavier than 5w30 R&P here)

I find if you leave the filter overnight to drain, it makes it easier to see particles. The shininess of the oil reduces and particles are easier seen. I do it with the Disco 3 and Freelander.

Seems 10-40 oils are becoming a bit yesterdays news. Except for Classic Cars and motorcycles.. Wish we could get it here in 10-40 I'd like to try it out in a few different motorcycles Can't use the 30 weight oils cause they are considered energy conserving wet clutch issues crop up with those oil ratings.

    • @Shanes_Shed
      @Shanes_Shed  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

xW-40 oil is one of the more popular grades here in Australia so we wouldn't class them as yesterdays news. But yeah you'd defiantly need an oil thats compatible with wet clutches in bikes

Did you have Analysis done on the Oil Dilution level(s)? Has it stabilized? Would be interesting to see if/how VRP does at combating/controlling Oil Dilution and/or related Wear...
Been working on addressing Oil Dilution on my GDI Engine too.
First Oil Analysis showed about 5.5% after only 3000 miles / 8 months with the GM Oil Life Monitor claiming 56% Life left... Glad I didn't wait for the OLM to trip around 7500 miles/ 12 months. Was "done" IMO by 3K miles and I probably should have just changed the oil at 3 months regardless... I knew it had been getting a lot of "short tripping" and knew of various problems with my model engine so Prevention would have been wise early on...
Last couple samples/analysis (at 2K miles and around 3700 miles) is showing its been "stable" and they consider both 1.3% readings (anything under 2%) as good...
Now running VRP for over 1000 miles... Looking forward to see if the 1.3% will continue to go down (left over dilution from the 5.5% OCI?) and/or stabilize...
The Filter has been dirty (though not bad) so hopefully it is helping at least some...
Had Oil in a Spark Plug Well (only 1 of 4) when changing Plugs recently so I might be pulling off the Valve Cover eventually (might just try retightening first, it was drowning before and after 1000+ miles it is still leaking but not drowning and without misfire/performance codes or issues I might be able to deal with it. For a while at least)
Hope my Engine looks that clean when I get in there...

I didn't do a sample at the last oil change as the owner was slack in getting the car to me for a service and it done way to many km's on the oil before change - it was something I didnt really want to know the answer too! Fuel dilution is a problem with direct injection petrol engine, not much that can be done about it. When I first serviced this car the fuel dilution was at 15.1% - yet the old was that badly oxidised that the viscosity had increased. After that at around 10,000km on the oil we are looking at around the 5% dilution range. Because the last couple of services have been pushed out to just under 20,000km (yeah, I know! But not my car...) I really didn't want to know the answer. But I will be doing some samples with this one again.

They're not bad products, only get stolen every other minute it seems. I had a pre GDI Hyundai Elantra bought new and she took some serious abuse. Not a fan of gasoline direct injection, but the older units were pretty solid. The WRC seemed to win rallies with them.
