Thanks for sharing this video. This was an eye opener for sure. People don't realise how much effort goes into doing this type of work. Any small mistake can affect how an event is likely to turn out to be.
Amazing video!! I love it. I have a doubt about what is then a road manager or is the same as a tour manager, and in what structure would it be ? thank youu
Good question! From Andrea "Depending on the structure of the tour, a road manager can work WITH the tour manager to manage the crew specifically. On tours of 150+ people, the tour manager will usually handle A + B party (artist and band) while the road manager mostly handles C party (the crew). The road manager and the tour manager work together to take care of the whole tour party, but you divide who handles the bulk of each group. "
Hi, I am just seeing this video right now but I completely loved it ! I am currently studying Public Relations and I am looking for an internship for next year and I would love to do it with a tour manager. Do you have any tips for me to help me find an internship in this side of the music industry ? Thanks
This is not Andrea speaking, but I know her background. She did go to college for music business, not specifically touring. She did a lot of internships at venues and got her name around and eventually wound up on a small tour and worked her way up. You definitely do not have to go to college to get into this career, but it can help you get connections (although not guaranteed). Andrea talks a little more specific in detail in this interview, if you are curious. th-cam.com/video/MruxqoiNC74/w-d-xo.html
Great informative video! I’m trying to get into the music industry in the music management side of it! Where do you suggest to start or do you have any possible tips to get into the door anywhere!? Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! You really have to take any gig you can and start there. The music business runs on word of mouth and is unlike a typical job. You need technical experience, but just as important, people have to enjoy working with you. Work your butt off, and get your name around.
From Andrea, "Yes! When we are off tour we are planning for the next run. All is the advancing happens weeks, if not months, before we leave for tour. Booking flights, finding hotels, advancing with the venue, and much more happens in between runs. These responsibilities are only for the prod team, the rest of the crew gets actual time off in between runs. "
Love this vid! Do you have any degree related to this field or did you work your way up? Also, how do you get/find jobs working for these artists? Thanks in advance! ❤️
Sorry for the late response. This is not from Andrea, because she is currently on tour, but from what we have discussed before: You work your way up by doing every gig you can and networking along the way. The music industry is an industry that runs entirely on word of mouth. You not only have to have technical experience, but people have to like working with you. Work your butt off, and get your name around. I know Andrea went to college and did a lot of internships at venues and her name got around and eventually wound up on a small tour and worked her way up. I'm currently a stagehand but my ambition is to be a production manager. How would you recommend I get there? Do I need school, if so what degree? Do I just work my way up from stagehand to tech and so on? What's the path?
You don't necessarily need schooling but it is all about making connections in the industry. There is no straight obvious path there and you typically have to work your way up.
Through internships, working at venues and making connections. You can watch Andrea’s interview we did with her to gain a little more insight if you would like.
Wow very interesting! How do you get into this type of career? Any degrees that are required/would help you get a job as a production coordinator/manager?

I just googled average salaries for production coordinators- it's a terribly small numbers compared to the hours and duties this woman is listing off. I guess the excitement of the job and the connections help but honestly with so much on the line these people holding the tour together deserve more.
All my ex told me I could never do this because of their insecurities. Idk I always think either find something to do and come along or find someone to keep you warm while I'm away sorry can't split me in half. 🙄😢
Thank you for sharing do you have an email address ? I have lots of questions regarding the Production Coordinator. I’m currently in school now getting my masters degree in film production.
Glad you enjoyed. We don't give out any personal emails, but you are free to comment on the video and we can answer some questions or you can message either our facebook or instagram.
😌Who will adopt me into the music business? I've got experience in AV production😩🤲. I need a boss, like a master that will adopt me and I'll serve under. I need a job/post in the touring Field😢
I have a professional, singer songwriter. She’s a good talent, but she can’t get along with her road manager. She’s too restrictive for her I wanna take my dog and she’s too prudish when she makes a joke about something she says Australia I’ve had to talk to my friend that is really making a big music. Do you guys live tour? She wants a little bit of freedom group managers are terrible. I don’t think they understand artists.
Holy shit, your job is insane...impressive
This series was so helpful! I'm a woman also getting into the music business and this is a great resource! Would love more series like this ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for sharing your management’s tour’s experience with us through a simple understanding way. S/o From🇧🇪
Yes, Andrea is amazing!
Brilliant video. You do the work of ten people!
Surely the Artists are like the Director in organisational structure. They provide The Vision and let everyone else do the work.
Excellent share, Than You, would love to see more of these on the Industry.
Thank you so much for this resource. It is very much appreciated !

No specific degree needed.

The table with the purple cloth and plant. lol
Wow that's a lot of responsibility! Do people on the tour management team still have jobs when no tour is happening?
From Andrea, "Yes! When we are off tour we are planning for the next run. All is the advancing happens weeks, if not months, before we leave for tour. Booking flights, finding hotels, advancing with the venue, and much more happens in between runs. Hopefully she gets paid well for all this load 😩🙏🏻🤍

very helpful, thank you for sharing
Glad it helped you out!
Thanks for sharing, how do you get paid if you work for few managers of different roles?
Thank you for the question. You get paid by the band/artist you are working for, you aren't paid from the manager. You are on a freelance contract.
I'm currently a stagehand but my ambition is to be a production manager. How would you recommend I get there? Do I need school, if so what degree? Do I just work my way up from stagehand to tech and so on? What's the path?

Who is responsible for scheduling and booking travel for artists? Who pays for the artist's travel (tour sponsor, radio and tv promoters, etc.).
Sorry for the late reply, Andrea is currently on tour so when I can let you know her response when she is available to answer

Agreed, but the salary varies a lot depending on the artist and how big the tour is.

So you basically work 24 hours a day. Yikes
Yes it’s hard work
