I agree with the group on sticking with the stock wheels. If you were dead set on changing them I’d go for the older staggered Monoblock AMG wheels. They’re a popular period swap.
If it was me I'd leave the stock rims. They look the best on the car and will probably ride much smoother than those big AMGs. They just need a good clean. If you must change then I'd say the smaller AMGs definitely look better than the big ones. Love the car 🌟
I'm going to have to agree ..I think the stock wheels are timeless classics. You could repaint them with chome paint One thing about Mercedes is they built their cars around their wheels. When I was a kid I used to love the Early AMG with the squared headlight convertible at the top of my list. I always loved the 90s BMW wagons and the Mercedes wagons were classic family luxury cars. Great video..
Another vote for the stock rims. They fit the estate look better than the AMG's. I understand they are not to your liking, but they are what should be on it - especially if you ever decide to sell the car.
You scared me pulling that radiator support with your Rube Goldberg set up. You probably should have taken the car to a frame shop. Glad you lived to tell about it!
I vote for version 1, the first upgrade, keep the smoothies with the deep offset in case you find a 500 SEC! You could use 2 pr of vice grips to anchor the come along hook on the bar, so it won't slide.
The second set looks proper to that body style, first one from 2000, if suspension loosing fluid, check the rear hydraulics elements, shocks or balls, connections, fittings , those engines has some leaks issues; rear passenger side head gasket, front timing chain U shape gasket, and of course: engine harness wiring upper and lower
Because of the offset of the rear wheel being closer to the front of the fender well, I like the original set. The bigger wheels make it look more pronounced.
Number two as there not being used . I rebuilt two Volvo 740 turbo sedans . then I built a 1990 red 745 turbo wagon for my mom . once I was done she had for about two years before she died . I then took it for myself . once you get a wagon you will not want a sedan again . Except for a two couple night for dinner . the versitality is unlimited . the rear seats folded down and you can move a living room couch in it . plus nothing gets wet or stole as its protected and locked . You will start rebuilding wagons once you start using this . they are getting harder to find all the time . better than any SUV . loved the content and most people laugh when I say my 1990 Volvo 740 turbo wagon in red is the best car I have ever had . still have it .Have a great weekend and God Bless Mike !
The AMG wheels with the big lip and maybe lowering springs with some coilovers or spindle change. Not really low just enough to get the gap between the wheel and the wheel arch to a minimum without you having to scrape stuff when you drive. It will look sweet for sure.
In my personal opinion the first AMG rims look best. The deep dish don't work because that's not a sports car. The deep dish should be on a coupe, or convertible, not a station wagon. In the case of that wagon less is more.b👍
Def. option 2. The old Merc wagons look cool with a fat set of original AMG wheels on 😃😃 - EDIT: sorry changed my mind. The stock wheels look the best 😃😃
Sorry, Mike, but I think that the wheels and tires that came on the car are perfectly fine. I would not change them. You just removed the tacky, flashy wheel arch trim, don't add flashy wheels.
I have heard when winching to have weighted blanket on cable so if snaps gets snagged in blanket to slow down or drop snapped part. Never saw it happen, but perhaps chat will approve or debunk.
IMVH&MO for wheels, @ 05:51🤓, that is the Wheel ... new tires though. I was at a you-pick-'em parts yard here in the mitten state. I was looking for a taillight but didn't see any MB Station Wagons. Sorry. If you leave this car out of the garage, you really should cover that opening into the back through the taillight assembly location.
Lola really loves you Mikey!❤️🌹 I like the look of the deep dish AMGs but I'm a standard kinda guy and knowing how sublime the ride is on these S124s I'd probably still with refurbished originals for the comfort. Also this car is about understated classiness and in this colour imo the original 15s would suit it better. Now if it were white like the S class...mmm? Those engines are super smooth and a factory muffler will keep it whisper quiet. "Straight pipe"? Nah!
I don’t mind the stock wheels . Good cleaning or repaint and that’s all they need. I’m also a fan of Carlson wheels from that era or even the 3 piece OZ wheels that were on the SL500 but I don’t hate the stocks they belong on it.
Don't forget, Mike, you can color match the center caps on those factory wheels to the car, and just leave the 3-pointed star standing out. And possibly a very thin body colored stripe, just inside the outer edge of the wheel, 1/16th inch or so, all the way around.
As a man possibly of your age I to am here in Ireland currently tackling the issues of wheels,, and am loving the idea of the front AMG selection. I am also trying to source a complete Leather interior and then tackling the door cards etc to basically PIMP MY RIDE ,, fun was made to enjoy, change was invented so we use or minds as individuals ,, loving this ongoing W124 episode.
Nice job with the come along. i would replace the sway bar at some point. The stock wheels with slightly bigger tires, is my choice. Love this build and the Barbie Geo.
Get yourself one of those 5 ton nylon ratchet straps, hook it round the radiator support and around the engine crossmember ( that you have the car jacked up on) and gently ratchet it back into place.
As for that rad support, I'd put a 2X4 on it with a tiedown strap on both sides and run the straps to something strong underneath and start cranking the straps down to pull it back.
Mike, that's a beautiful classic wagon. It needs it's beautiful classic original wheels. They just need cleaned up. And don't understimate tires. Put a beautiful new set of Michelin Pilot Sports on, and you will love your new "favorite car" even more, maybe forever. I just put some on my new favorite car, a 2010 Lexus IS250c (the c is for convertible) In Matador Red Mica, with a beige interior, she is a stunner, with 28k miles. The Michelins are transformatory, smooth, quiet, strong, good grip, they make it like a brand new car. Please stay with the original wheels. They look by far, the best on that car. If you have to spice it up, run a thin twin pinstripe (white, of course) down the side. Please don't put big bougie wheels on that beautiful classic car!
I want to congratulate you on your "mess" of a shelf area. Yeah it looks like a "living project" but you seem to be organized and staying mostly on top of it. Good inventory, logical layouts. I approve.
Just a thought Mike, welders are reasonably priced now, is there a local school that teaches such things at night, it's a wonderful skill to have. Or you could do what I did buy a welder, and practice on some scrap metal, watch some instructional videos and have a little fun learning.
It would be cool to make it look kinda like 'The Hammer" Mercedes that had the big lip wheels instead of the black ones but a wagon. I recommend deleting the resonator on the exhaust, high flow cat or a "test pipe" 😉 welded in and dynomax, flowmaster, cherry bomb, or magnaflow depending what you wanna spend and how aggressive you desire. Those cars sound dang good with a little exhaust work. Just removing the resonator is an improvement. I really recommend any Standard Motor Products Blue Streak line you can get. Their plug wires for the price you cant beat. Silicone and 8.5mm for like 35 on rockauto already premade. Not to mention the electronics are upgraded in everything they make with the Blue Streak name. Also NGK Iridium plugs.
Well... stock ones are nice but perhaps in a slightly larger size? From the ones shown in the video, I would say the ones in the front axle look better.
I like the version 2 because it is what the one Hammer that just sold for 600K had on it... and she looked GOOOOD. IT had the SAME AMG wheels that are on the FRONT...
Those deep dish AMG wheels would look great with the correct tyres, but you would need to give the car a tickle with the lowering stick to get a real aggressive look.
Heat the rod up as your using the ratchet cable unit, it's a solid steel rod, won't move easily without heat? Mapp gas torch will work, not propane? Good luck, don't get hurt?
Chrome ones are sweet! THATS my choice the stock ones are perfect but time for a new look. Go with what pleases you mike..😬 Cant make everyone happy....
Mike its nice to have choices but I like the same wheels that you like...the ones off the white car are like the chrome ones...played out bein a 5 spoke wheel...lol
I don't have a choice on wheels, but wanted to offer some guidance. I've owned 2 S124s and 1 C124 all with aftermarket wheels. One had 215/45-17 tires on 17x7.5 et35 wheels. No issues there. The other wagon had 225/45-17 tires on 17x8 et35 wheels, and that car rubbed on the front, mostly the driver's side. The C124 had 18x8 et38 wheels with 225/40-18 tires and I had no rubbing. So pick the wheel that has the best dimensions to fit without causing your any fitment issues.
Obviously the staggered Monoblocks bring into the 20th century and is an all time favourite for many 80's/90's series. My short wheel base S420 W140 looks the Mickey with these on... Personal choice if you ask me
I liked the rims and tyres that came with it.
Couldn't agree more
Me too. The others are awful
I agree too!
Negative 😊
I agree
Factory wheels are the best option. Clean them well and they will look 100% better!
Just change the small centre caps. They are cheap.
I like the #2 monoblocks
Its all a matter of taste. But im of the same opinion😊
Count me as another vote for the stock wheel. They just look correct and a timeless look on the car.
Stock wheels, factory look is the way to go
Stock wheels look good. Even better if they clean up a little and have clean tires. IMHO
I agree with the group on sticking with the stock wheels. If you were dead set on changing them I’d go for the older staggered Monoblock AMG wheels. They’re a popular period swap.
I really prefer the stock alloys, more timeless look. Keep working on this. Nice!!!
Front wheel
Stock ones are the best! Keep the car original without mods!
Stock ones, still look the best. Refurbish them or clean them really well, trust me they will pop.
If it was me I'd leave the stock rims. They look the best on the car and will probably ride much smoother than those big AMGs. They just need a good clean. If you must change then I'd say the smaller AMGs definitely look better than the big ones. Love the car 🌟
Way better than a modern "crossover", Big, elegant, from the time Mercedes was Mercedes
Lola has become such a diva, worming her way into every scene. I love it!
I like the original rims not the 2 that you have on your thumbnail
Amg monoblock all day long imo the wagons look so nice with em on
Yup my votes for AMG 👍
Mike I personally would stick to the original wheels, a good cleaning will probably make them look great.
the stock ones still looks the best!
Another vote for the stock rims. They fit the estate look better than the AMG's. I understand they are not to your liking, but they are what should be on it - especially if you ever decide to sell the car.

Lola makes the channel. I love how helpful she is 🥰!!!
I feel it's one of those rare times when the stock wheels look great. Wonderful video as always. Thank you.
Pimp my ride, if you put any wheels on other than the stock ones. Please keep it stock Mike.
Make sure you keep putting the car model in the title so it keeps getting big views.
I’d go with the AMG wheels , looks fantastic ! Have fun choosing the rims !
I have no vote for wheel choice. I just love your content no matter what you do.
Aww thanks!!
I like the AMG wheels from the scrap pile-pick up some llantas usadas from your local tire shop.
The stock wheels look the best.
Use the original wheel 🛞 on your W124 estate...it's looking good of that era...MWM 😂you looks happy on them....
Number two as there not being used . I rebuilt two Volvo 740 turbo sedans . then I built a 1990 red 745 turbo wagon for my mom . once I was done she had for about two years before she died . I’ve been looking for a Volvo wagon!!
I would just keep the original wheels Mike. good cleaning and nothing more 👍🏼
The right front rim is the winner just get the right size tires
Stock rims look fine IMO. Don't have to worry about fitment issues either, so bonus.
The AMG wheels with the big lip and maybe lowering springs with some coilovers or spindle change. Not really low just enough to get the gap between the wheel and the wheel arch to a minimum without you having to scrape stuff when you drive. It will look sweet for sure.
Holy Guacamole Batman, your best bet is keeping the original wheels..
In my personal opinion the first AMG rims look best. The deep dish don't work because that's not a sports car. The deep dish should be on a coupe, or convertible, not a station wagon. In the case of that wagon less is more.b👍
for me the second set looks great on that car. It gives It A sporty look. Great vid man.
You have become my favorite you tuber to watch. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
Def. option 2. The old Merc wagons look cool with a fat set of original AMG wheels on 😃😃 - EDIT: sorry changed my mind. The stock wheels look the best 😃😃
I like the wheels that came on the car better. Love your channel!
Thanks!!
Mike , I believe that the stock wheels are just fine
Back again, surprising what a little ingenuity and persistents can do, loving it
I like the AMG Hammer wheels. They have a nice stance, but they do need a higher profile tire in order to be used on the wagon.
The stock wheels are not only period correct, but they match the car the best. Best wishes with your choice. 👍
Mike .. you mean Bonnet ! 🇬🇧👍
Yup!!

I have rope covering all holes. She’s good. Lol
Go with the chrome ones but the AMG’s would look great too

Good thinking that would look sharp with a little character
Stock wheel looks classier and better ride quality.

Hello Mr Mike how are you feeling today I think the Wheels look good on that car
Stick with the smaler wheels that was dirty, but put a biger tires on them
Nice job with the come along. i would replace the sway bar at some point. The stock wheels with slightly bigger tires, is my choice. Love this build and the Barbie Geo.
I'd stay with the stock ones.
Its great seeing your channel grow! You've put in a lot of work and im glad you are finally getting noticed.
Get yourself one of those 5 ton nylon ratchet straps, hook it round the radiator support and around the engine crossmember ( that you have the car jacked up on) and gently ratchet it back into place.
Wow 😂😂😂 great video we always keep it up 😂
Once you clean and polish those stroke 8s, you're going to change ur mind about them. So, keep them on.😉
Put on wheels that doesn't compromised the smoothness of the ride.
As for that rad support, I'd put a 2X4 on it with a tiedown strap on both sides and run the straps to something strong underneath and start cranking the straps down to pull it back.
Mike put back the tire and wheels that came with the car 🚗🚗
Mike, that's a beautiful classic wagon. It needs it's beautiful classic original wheels. They just need cleaned up. And don't understimate tires. I agree about the Michelins 100%.
When you flipped over that plate and the bolts dropped out, I felt the pain. I'd have been pissed if I'd done that. I was like OOOOOHHHHH CRRAAAAP!
Awesome show my friend. 😊
I like the wheel on the front with the low profile tire that you said looks cool. I think it looks rad with that wheel.
I want to congratulate you on your "mess" of a shelf area. Yeah it looks like a "living project" but you seem to be organized and staying mostly on top of it. Good inventory, logical layouts. I approve.
Coral Gables 🌴🇺🇸 Hehe Include the little boy and puppy Lolah for greater chanel enjoyment ! 🏄
I vote for the stock wheels have a pro wheel shop clean and polish them they will lock great
AMG classic have a great day can't wait to see the finished product think you did great buying it
Thanks!
Well... things are "coming along", for what will be a great car.
Keep it stock. I like the original wheels best! Fun project!
8:30 love the second set of AMG wheels. The originals look good though
Option 2 is the best looking in my opinion.
As far as for the Catalytic Converters, run a straight pipe and give the wagon some rumble!
Just a thought Mike, welders are reasonably priced now, is there a local school that teaches such things at night, it's a wonderful skill to have. Or you could do what I did buy a welder, and practice on some scrap metal, watch some instructional videos and have a little fun learning.
I bought a welder and tried. Complete disaster! Lol
I really prefer the stock alloys.
Option #2 is the way to go Mike!

Keep the original alloy wheels on the car.
Just have them refurbished as they suit the car best.
Those deep dish AMG wheels would look great with the correct tyres, but you would need to give the car a tickle with the lowering stick to get a real aggressive look.
Number 2 AMG wheels without a doubt. With proper tires of course. Great Mike. Keep it up. One step at a time.
Heat the rod up as your using the ratchet cable unit, it's a solid steel rod, won't move easily without heat? Mapp gas torch will work, not propane? Good luck, don't get hurt?

As a current owner of the sedan version of one of these, I prefer the stock wheels. However to answer your question, I prefer the ones on the front.
I think the AMG wheels would look best. Great to see the progress on the wagon.
AMG. They are always good quality and durable as well as good looking.😊
Heat up the bar.
Option #2, deep dish AMG looks amazing!!
Obviously the staggered Monoblocks bring into the 20th century and is an all time favourite for many 80's/90's series. My short wheel base S420 W140 looks the Mickey with these on... Personal choice if you ask me
