That little notch on the screwdriver/cap lifter is a lock. When you push down on the screwdriver it moves back and locks the blade so it doesn't close up on your hand.
When I have some knowledge to pass down to you I’d be more than happy to give it! Really enjoyed this video thank you for letting us take a look at these knives. Absolutely a pleasure thank you so much
If that's like my Ranger grip 78 when you push inward hard on that screwdriver on your bottle opener it actually retracts a little into the handle and locks and automatically unlocks when you relieve the pressure.
I think the little tab on the flathead screwdriver hinge end that you asked about, it's to stabilise it more as there's torque when using the screwdriver and that if it goes into a socket, would take some pressure off the hinge.
The Ranger grip knives, and others from the Delemont (former Wenger) factory are based on Wenger designs and use a mix of Victorinox and Wenger tools, so the awls and can openers tend to be Victorinox, while the cap lifter/large screwdriver and scissors tend to be Wenger. This means that the large screwdriver has a “push lock” rather than the Victorinox half-lock system. I have a few 111 mm’s and 130’s. I prefer the corkscrew to the Philips driver, so I have the Ranger grip 179.
There is also a hex bit driver under the front scale in the bottom corner by the screw driver. Just pop the scale off and carve out the under part of the scale.
The big boys! Really cool knives Knife Detector! I liked that Adventurer. If someone hands me a Ranger Grip now I know how to unlock it! Have a fantastic weekend my friend!
Interesting, I didnt know it was the european version either. But yea man I love the handle on that ranger!! Im not a fan of serrated knives but that's just me but other than that I really like the style and colors of it partner. Sounds like you might have a few worth some money! LOL @ the hercules, very funny movies for sure!! Hope you are well and have a great upcoming weekend man
Hello. I got the Sentinel for xmas but i chose the two hand opening version. I dont like holes in my blades . It is a 111mm single blade. My favorite 111mm is still the Atlas, i just wish it had scissors. That rangergrip looks great. All the best my friend.
I was just saying that the other day and I reference it when I can. Herk a leez-Herk a leez!!👏👏👏 My favorite part is when he gets even with the comedian on stage 😂. Yeah I want to get the Ranger grip 79 with the corkscrew because it has bushcraft applications I didn’t know about until watching a video on TH-cam.
Nice Victorinox. I have a very cheap folding knife that has a lock release mechanism like that. They used a whole panel about the size of your thumb to release the blade. Took me awhile to figure it out.
I've got the red/black one, the 78. It's a great knife for the bush. Got a 91mm ranger arriving tomorrow. Makes nine SAK's including the one hand opening Trekker.
The Rangergrip 178 is an awesome tool and mine is in a survival kit of my bug out bag. Victorinox offers a great sheath for it and it is OD green, same color as the green on the 178's scales. I added a slender ferro rod in the sheath. The back of the saw is perfect for striking hot sparks to ignite tinder such as feathersticks, fatwood or my favorite cotton balls impregnated with petroleum jelly.
Damn you are having way too much fun with the ranger grip if I buy one I’ll say the same thing each time I push it in lol 😃hope your well man I enjoy your videos keep up the good work
I’ve yet to pick up 130mm Wenger/Vic Delemont. I’ll need to find one with a corkscrew! LOL. The little notch on the caplifter screwdriver is so that it lock in place when you push against the screw/apply pressure. Push it buddy!
4:17 The "awl" - In my experience, this is, after the main blade, the tool I have used the most! However, I've never used it as a awl! I use it to make holes in wood ! It is amazing at this job. [If you read Felix Immler's books, or view his videos you'll be amazed how important this tool is. Combined with carved wooden "nails" it adds awhole new dimension to what one can actually build quite successfully!). ] Main blade - does this knife come without the serrated blade? In my opinion, the day of serrated edges has come, and GONE!
Cool knives those RangerGrips. Between an old Victorinox Craftsman with plus scales and a RangerGrip 90 you can put together the two Swiss Army knives that contain every usable tool (minus the odd ones) made by them that you might find a need for anywhere, backcountry or in town. That beats carrying them all on one tool and gives you a backup knife. Great video.
If you buy a victorinox, there is always a little paper included with instructions, for instance: how to unlock the knife! Just read the instructions (Duh!). There was no need to search the internet for it.
Hi knife detector, l have figured out after 10 seconds but not because l am smart but rather lucky 😂 pushing on everything simultaneously on this knife and then the miracle came
All the RangerGrip are excellent knives.. but none of them are easy one hand open as shown.. I along with friends have used these and again none are that easy thumb one hand open. If you are lucky enough to get in a location where you have access try it ! Otherwise great knife
[ I caught the Victorinox bug and now I'm a collector-- but without a display. Internet ordering through LAZADA is just too easy, so now I have one of each that I want and must stop. BTW, I never use anything except the knife and never think I will. I am the guy who gives away his Leatherman...... I own a set of real tools and would never reach for a tiny substitute. I know it's for emergencies, but try to open a wide-mouth tightly-stuck-closed jar of food with the little Leatherman pliers.😫😫😫😫😛

@@KnifeDetector I do have quite a collection 😉

Thanks buddy, yes, I am aware, I just don't have a need right now to damage the handle. When it gets older, I will likely do it :)
that groove on your bottle opener is so you can push down while using to lock it so it won't close on your hand
Thanks buddy!
I just got my first one hand Trekker in camo, Love it! Great video!
Hi partner!! You can’t go wrong with an OHT
you missed the salt-n-pepa reference, "ah, push it! push it real good!" lol
OH man!! I didn't even think of that one!! How could I miss such an opportunity!!

@@KnifeDetector Have a great weekend man! Im glad its here as well almost
I've been eyeballing a few of the rangergrip knives lately, but haven't decided yet which one I want. Thanks for the look at this one, my friend.
Sure thing! I really like the red, but the rice was right on the green one :)

you gotta push it , push it real good :)
I need to get some more victorinox knifes in my collection. Thanks for sharing.

Ranger Grip 179 is the same as the one in the video, but with the corkscrew instead of the Philips

Hi Dennis !!! Yes, the SEL is amazing!!! I have also used it several times to make homes in wood, and it gets the job done!! Thanks buddy!!
Love the size of this one! Great video
Since the saw is not locked, when its open you hold the knife before the loop of the knife, this makes kind of a guard for your hand.
Thanks for the Pro tip buddy :)
It looks like a Wire stripper if so it seams redundant and that is amazing locking mechanism
Agreed!!
If its like the s18 the little nick on the flat heade will actually lock in place when you apply pressure on it
Yes, I believe it does, thanks!
I used to own this knife the 178, way too big for pocket. I sold it after it sat in the drawer for ever. Probably a great backpack knife.
It is big, but yes, it would be a great tool to throw in the back pack!
Actually due to a HUGE design flaw from Wenger that Victorinox didn´t fix, the edge of the blade is exactly the same as a 111mm sak...
Added to my order for my store.

That’s great advice partner thanks :)
I got to get one of these one day
I'm kind of maybe considering this knife but Idk about the serrated blade
I like serrated blades, but I know not everyone does. You may want to check out other models that don’t have a serrated blade.
Nice knives. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks partner!!
i lost my 78 model that was good going higher on the 178 thanks update
Thanks!
@@KnifeDetector your welcome friend
The subdued colors are great unless you drop one in the weeds.
Yup, maybe orange would be better :)
Well, I suppose there is a bit of laudable humility in admitting to not knowing how to find the blade closure button.
I am nothing, if not humble :)
Thanks
You got it amigo!!

Wow that's lucky, I was just staring at it in disbelief :)
Wirecutter?
Hmmm, if your referring to that little notch behind the cap lifter, I don’t think that’s the purpose, but it still has me baffled :)

Yup, that would be a game changer👍
Cool!
Man o man Vicky seldom makes a mistake
True!!
Well if you would have seen the paper in the box you would have known to push the flag to unlock, hahaha
