Honestly, if the support character can heal hp, cook to keep hunger up, play music to boost morale and give emotional support for the team to keep fighting, It's gonna have to take a really good player to play the support character

Ngl that would probably the most busted support class
I’m a former genshin impact player, and back when I was AR 43 or so, I had level 80 Noelle and Barbara equipped. AR 56 and AR 57 players joined my world. They had Kazuha and Hutao but they were under-leveled, so they still had trouble fighting in my world. But because those players were higher-leveled they had way better artifacts on their Kazuha and Hutao and so they dealt better damage while I healed them.
I switched my Noelle to healer and shield build, then C1 Barbara to semi healer/dps (she deals dmg when you set her up like that). So that way if Hutao and Kazuha died, I could stay behind and keep the boss busy until they returned.
And so we went around gathering materials for them, and they kept dying. However, because I had Noelle and Barbara, I would stay alive and keep the boss from re-setting while they came running back. It was a lot of fun because they would keep reviving and coming back to deal damage. The moment they came back, I would support with elemental reactions as much as I possibly could, and then heal them if needed. I mention them dying and coming back but they actually hardly ever did. I would come in at the times I was absolutely needed to heal them and they rarely died despite our long session.
Because I don’t deal that high a damage, I would stand at the sidelines and yell lines of motivation in the chat. They called me their moral support. At times, I would also play calming songs on the wind song lyre during explosive battles. It was so much fun and when we finally parted, they made my day by telling me that, “You’re such a genuinely wonderful person. You really boosted out morale and helped us out.” And then they left. It filled me with such joy knowing that I had assisted in lending other happiness even if it was just for a mere moment in a game. I no longer play genshin impact, but though there were some bad experiences, I’m grateful for the memories like this one that I had the opportunity to make there.

as a support main, the stress of being support is insane, it is definitely the hardest role on average (not saying there aren't easy support characters in games just saying most of the time that's not the case) you're teammates constantly want something from you and usually, you are the only non-DPS (and still have more damage than the rest of your team)
Tank, support main in general for most games, and I regularly do the most damage and healing on my team on average if I'm not playing tanks. I don't know how in paladins the dpsers do no damage, yet I'm sitting here doing 200k+ as a tank or support and still doing 300k-500k healing in a long game....

To extend this more. I think it's definitely the hardest role in any game. I used to be main support in the game smite. I started as support and sticked to it. It was amazing. To be able to actually read the movement of any player, to have the knowledge of any character in game and to know what combos are possible and good. And it's in a lot of other games just similar. And the appreciation of the team if you do a good job is on another level. Like everyone can do damage but not everyone is able to be just there with the right ability at that very moment. And to know you saw that situation coming and acted just right. As a match deciding matter is which team has the better support player. It can make a huge difference.

haven't played smite in at least 8 years, but is support like league where you stick with the adc until they scale then start roaming? because wouldn't say that role is the hardest (not that its easy but the other roles in the game are harder in general simply based on the fact that you have a lane partner) and its not a great carry role like you've described. what you've described reminds me more of jungle which can be considered a support role, jungle is the largest decider in most mobas, as they impact all three lanes and require you to known every match up and (CC) ability to play well, require you to read a players body language to decide if a gank is worth it. the only difference from what you've described and jungle is the jungler will be flamed even if they have a positive impact on the game

You know. I have a brother who mains Ana in Overwatch and I've always wondered how he manages to heal his teammates with accuracy. When I asked him, he told me that every character has a specific way of moving and that he knows exactly how they would move after playing Ana so many times. It even applies to enemy players as well. I thought it was pretty impressive.

- The 199/200 HP Genji
- The ball that comes back for heals on literally 1HP
- The "I need healing" spam
- The Lucio playing music to boost morale (and speed/heals)
All this needed was a beg to be revived when they literally just witnessed you reviving someone else and know damn well it's on cooldown
