    Thanks man, I don't get much video or photos of me running since I'm usually behind a camera as well. Glad to see the Narrow Gauge stuff showcased separately and all together!

    Now, that is a very interesting exhaust deflector on that K-36 narrow gauge locomotive i’ve never seen one that to flex it to one side, rather than up and away there have been known records of logging locomotives, having the exhaust steam from the air compressor pipes angled off to the side as well. One good example includes the steam engines of the Roaring Camp and Big Trees Railroad.

    7:12 Are those steam locomotives running on Propane?

    • @TheSteamChannel
      @TheSteamChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All steam that runs at this railroad must be fired by propane due to fire risk so everything shown here is.

    1:41 what's that pipe on the exhaust (chimney) for?

    • @TheSteamChannel
      @TheSteamChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's to divert any moisture coming up from the stack away from the smoke box and boiler jacketing. The water will discolor/rust the smokebox over time. Some guys wrap towels around the top of the smoke box when they are first pulling out of the steaming bays to catch any water that may shoot out. On a coal engine, a pipe may also be added to divert the smoke away from the engineer's face.

      Unless i'm mistaken, it was built by Richard Ulin(Hopefully i spelled that right) for Peter Moseley years ago, it looks like it has changed owners since then

    Are these engines manufactured or does each owner craft them by hand from the ground up? Thanks

      They are out there, but steam locomotives are not cheap! And, you need some significant training to operate them safely.
