@sporky69 If you're just using it for games, the i5 will be plenty. The main differences between the i5 and i7 is that the i5 doesn't have mutli-threading and triple channel memory, but those are mainly for resource heavy programs. So if you're mainly gonna be gaming, the i5 will be plenty. Plus they are cheap as hell as are the p55 boards you must get to run them.
@TheRES74 Triple channel memory is native to the x58 chipset. All x58 boards will have it. By crank it I mean turning it up loud and/or through a surround sound setup. You'll notice a huge difference between on-board sound cards and aftermarket ones.
@TheCoCkTa1l As long as you don't have a micro ATX case, it will fit. You'll just have to arrange the standoffs so that they line up with the mounting holes on the board. Make sure you ONLY install standoffs to match the mounting holes as you could short your board out.
@Itzmyrave I can attest to Gigabyte quality. Been using this board for a few years now and it hasn't given me any problems. The extra-thick PCB of this board makes it extremely solid and all the components are top-notch. You will have to do some serious tweaking to achieve 2200mhz. You can buy 2200 but it's not going to run anywhere near that at first. I think this board supports 1333 w/o OC so you can just buy that or find another board that supports higher memory speeds.
@861147 No, and if you want to go for the EVGA X58 Classified 4-Way SLI Motherboard. I think its the only motherboard with 4 way sli. Not 100% sure though
@savasification That's a really tough choice. Both boards are essentially identical and offer very similar features. The only thing that stands out is that the Asus board offers Express Gate which is a solid state drive built onto the board that you can load an OS on for troubleshooting. Other than that it really comes down to brand preference. You can't go wrong with either and the only reason I went with Gigabyte was because I hadn't used them before.
@beingbanana Both boards are essentially identical. Because I've mainly used Asus boards in the past and I have no experience with the ud3r board yet I would personally recommend the P6x.
@byobeach All of the motherboards around this price range are going to be the same way. The problem is that x58 chipsets only allow 32 lanes for the pci 2.0 slots. Boards like the EVGA classified has an additional controller added on to increase the number of available lanes.
@PinkasBrown44 I'm not familiar with that particular card but if it's taking up 3 expansion slots, it's got an aftermarket cooler. Unfortunately there is nothing else you can do aside from buying a different card or using that third 8x slot if you want to run Xfire.
@TheRES74 If you can afford it, buy an aftermarket sound card. The on-board sound will get the job done but will disappoint once you start to crank it. Sound cards are so cheap nowadays, it's really a no-brainer. As for the Sabertooth board, they both offer the exact same features. I prefer the look of the Saberthooth board and it's relatively new so it would be fun to test it out.
@bazooka34 Yes. It comes with both 2-way and 3-way sli bridges. I'm running 2 gtx 460 on my rig as well and let me tell you this thing pumps. You won't be disappointed.
Thank you very much for this, it's complete and answers all the questions just by watching the video!!! I wonder if a Sound Card would fit in the 2nd PCI Express x1 Slot, or is it too close to the Heat Sink there? Thx again!
@Smokie181 I actually just finished this build a couple days ago. i7 930 @ 4ghz Noctua d14 cpu cooler 6gb pc1600 ocz gold ddr3 ram 2x gigabyte gtx 460 in sli 1tb WD caviar black sata3 hard drive intel 80gb ssd cooler master cm690 ii advanced case
@somnusmd I did not, I just ordered it from Newegg. However, the revision 2 board has been out for quite awhile so all the revision 1 boards should be out of stock by now.
@sporky69 It's not the motherboard that you have to worry about, it's the i7 processor and graphics card that's gonna suck up the power. You would be pushing it with that power supply but if your graphics card isn't that powerful then I would imagine you'd be fine.
If you want to do superior oc with the 980x then go with EVGA. It will be most compatible if you have EVGA video cards and motehrboard. I recommend the FTW editions if your doing a ton of oc.
well i bought this mobo pretty cheap beacuse it was in open box return online and looks like it is in good condition but i wont know if it works till later when i save up money and get more parts iam aming at a i7 960 and xfx 6970 and 750 modular psu and 2 blu-ray drives and ssd and a 1tb hard drive and maybe 2 reqular dvd burner drives i want to do video editing and all hopefully it will be a cool system
@heikujin ok i have a 5770hd gigabyte gfx card maybe i could invest in a I5 processor you think maybe that would work or id have to upgrade the 460w coolmaster still? cheers. good video btw
@heikujin oh well thanks ill go with the asus. does the asus sabretooth offer tripple channel ram memory? hmm, what do you mean by crank it? sound cards are like 100$ nowadays...asus ones
I am getting set to order all my parts and contacted newegg to see how to get the revision 2.0 and they said that they move through inventory so they should have latest revision but they would not guarantee that and so I am wondering how to get the revision 2.0? Did you find someplace that would guarantee revision number?
hey man....just bought this mobo... just in serious doubt which 3x 2GB ram kit i should pick 12800(1600Mhz)? not sure since the mobo specification says 2200/1333/1066; perhaps a 10666(1333Mhz) would be better? help anyone?
Hey man. Hope yuo can help me. I bought this mobo and installed a Raedon 5830 vga from Sapphire. However, its a very very thick (lol) vga card and it covers THREE pci-e slots, including that 2nd x16 slot. Only free slot is the 4th one which is only 8x and is too close to the bottom mounted power supply. Please help guys. Is this an issue related to that specific vgs card or what?
@beingbanana this is a better board for the price more features gigabyte is allways above the edge this will be the firat gigabyte boar i will buy but ive done my research
Max Ram? This board is a beast even for today - a shame the cpu's are so high for the extreme's. Xeons have limitations so its actually holding the board back for todays time as in the cpu's price. HAH... Wonder what the best CPU bang for the buck you can get today is for this whether xeon or standard. 6 core max? 8 xeon? WOW, 6 dimms for ram. This is a sweet board even in '18...
I need your help please!!!. Can i use Cooler Master Hyper 212 Cooler on this board? My case is Cooler Master K282 also i have no idea if this case is ok for this CPU Cooler or not. So can you help me?Thank you
hey i got a problem. I have that MoBo and 2x XFX ATi HD 5870 Xfire. Now I just bought an Auzentech X-Fi Forte 7.1 Sound Card and can't find a way to fit it in. The two GPUs obviously use the x16 PCI-e slots. However there is nt enough room to fit the sound card into the lower x1 PCI-e slot. Any ideas how to solve the issue would be greatly appreciated!
I still use this along with I7 Extreme X980 in 2022 and it still runs well
Me two

Still have one of these, wanted to upgrade my RAM so I was checking how many slots it had lol

Just got me one too; the Cooling setup won't allow access to some of the logic ports. I'M thinking the cooling needs a revision...

@bazooka34 it will when you OC, but not if you are going to run stock.
@XxtekiexX
X-fire bridges come with the cards themselves. The ud3r comes with both a 3-way and 2-way sli bridge, I promise!
@heikujin got 1 of those with this exact board at micro center. board was 200 and 220 for the 950. very sweet.

@byobeach
That is correct. I thought doing the same thing. :/
@alikhavoc
Turn off EIST in the bios to get rid of that noise. I turned mine off before I had a chance to hear the noise.

Well this board only supports 1366 processors so you're limited to the i7 9xx series processors.

I did not, I just ordered it from Newegg. However, the revision 2 board has been out for quite awhile so all the revision 1 boards should be out of stock by now.

That's a sweet deal indeed. If I had a microcenter near me I would have done the same. Enjoy your new beast of a computer. :D
@massmurderer02
Is it really that boring? ;(
It's my first vid so it'll get better the more I do. Was kinda nervous. :P
Excellent review man! I just bought this off of newegg for $190. should be getting it within the week
@Olemguy 1366 chipset only. i5 is 1156.

Thanks for putting that up :)
@JspRay12
It works with my d14 so I'd reckon so.

there actually is a 3 way sli brodge and a x-firebridge lol not a 3 way and 2 way sli bridge!
sir, can i ask if this motherboard is compatible with x5690 and rx 5600xt?
Use the Marvell as it's much faster.
How do I know whether if it will match with my case?
I know that it will fit, but how do I attach it? (if the screw holes won't match)
how much power does this mobo consume? would it work ona 460w coolermaster?
@orangesoda1955 i have to apoloise the fact that i critisided the gigabyte motherboard because of my own mistakes, i apologise for my last comment.
is it true that on the p55a ud4p with sata3 and usb3 ebabled, the 1st pcie x16 is cut to x8 and the second x16 lane is disabled?
