I sat beside a sound keyboard operator on a plane early in 1976 back to the states, that informed me that Rainbow would be in Cologne Germany in September that year & not to miss it. He explained the million dollar or so rainbow lighting that was to be in that concert. I finally went back to Germany & found out the concert date so I got a couple of tickets. The concert hall was a classical hall that the ushers would take you to your seat with a flash light. The hall was packed with Polizei (Police) & the crowd was seated & tense. Ronnie, Powell, Bain, Carey & Richie came out on stage & sensed the tension due to all the cops. Ronnie grabbed a mic, walked to the edge of the stage, yelled in the mic & with his arm he motioned the crown to the stage & said, "come on". EVERYBODY stood up & rushed the stage. The Polizei could do nothing. A friend & me managed to reach about the 3rd row on stage left, right in front of Richie. 4 channel stereo was the rave back then & Rainbow had speakers forward stage & sound coming from far behind us also. The silk screen with the rainbow & hand would breath with the building & would move forward & backward as if it was coming at you. We did "rooms" that night & it seemed we were entering a time tunnel. It was so awesome. It was the loudest concert I ever went to. Richie played so fast, it just took you to another place. Will never forget that night.
I’m so glad you are on to Rainbow and Deep Purple, I love the way you do your research and know the musicians. Next group you should check out is Whitesnake, especially early from the 70’s.
Dio, Blackmore & Powell. A totally amazin line up who produced so many fantastic songs, such as this one. No-one will replace Ronie James Dio's vocals.....what a supreme voice. RIP Sir.......Enjoy...!
Fantastic to see you experiencing these Magnificent Performers from the early days. BECAUSE OF YOU, THIS MUSIC AND THESE MUSICIANS WILL LIVE ON FOREVER. I saw Rainbow in Fort Collins Colorado in 1980ish. I was 17. 😎🤘ROCK ON
dang, you keep it up; you are an 'old soul' in such a young woman, yo...and keep up the great work of giving your synopses of the bands you react to!!...kudos once again!!...😎
"Rainbow Rising" was THE dream-team album of 1976. I mean, come on, Ronnie Dio, Cozy Powell AND Ritchie Blackmore in one and the same band? Right? Pinch me. Well, don't, because I lived those times and I bought the album. Listened to it back in 1976 and went batshit crazy. Still haven't recovered, to be honest, but hey, that's how life goes, ainnit? Hugs and kisses from Belgium.
Quite a beat, I agree, Elok. I used to play air guitar to this with a tennis racket, lol. Happy you liked it and that you got to hear the end of this story. Thanks for another great reaction! A number of other good Rainbow songs but I want to look for ones that have at least some video of the band… have a great day or I guess night, Elok!
Thanks for the reaction Elok, well done. I think the overall message of Stargazer/Light in the Black is to be bold and find your own purpose in life, and work towards that, rather than blindly following and working to fulfill the vision of others. A very important message, in my humble opinion.
When you did the reaction to Deep Purples Live version of Burn there's a huge rainbow on stage. There is probably no connection but Richie Blackmore who was with Deep Purple at the time is now with a band called Rainbow..Plus your history of these bands are awesome your a born music historian
I really enjoy watching your reactions through your eyes, your set amazement and awe is bittersweet since it has been so long I have felt like that years ago. You are a total inspiration to go back and reminisce those glory days of real talent. Plus I really enjoy your soft sweet voice with your hint of an accent, you really make this channel a very pleasant one to be on the watch for.
hi there, elok hsu. I like your structured, informative and entertaining videos. great choice be the way.🤟❤ quick edit: they clearly must have influenced iron maiden a lot...
Thank you again for another great music reaction, Elok! Love your Captain America shirt too, and I hope you have the chance to watch Falcon and Winter Soldier! Another song to add to your ever growing list - Bat Out Of Hell by Meatloaf! You will love it, guaranteed! Please stay healthy and well and I wish you nothing but success and joy with your channel, as you bring joy to so many of us!!
RIP Cozy and Ronnie............ I think your next track with RJD on vocals should be 'Gates of Babylon'. Then 'Tarot Woman', 'Sixteenth Century Greensleeves', 'Black Sheep' and the On Stage version of 'Mistreated' (origianally a Deep Purple song). I saw Rainbow for the first time at The Rainbow Theatre, Finsbury Park...... Rainbow at the Rainbow.. how cool's that? They always put on a show. .
A phenomonal band Rainbow is (:. I lol it But Ronnie James Dio is insanely Beyond Amazing (:. Every time I hear it is absolutely everything in the cosmos (:. Never can get enough of it (: Also great instrumentation Blackmore and the rest of the band (:. Lol your reaction (:.
1976, this album changed the world. The culmination of everything from Deep Purple - In Rock on to create the blueprint for power metal. This song is the partner to Stargazer, continuing the story after the Wizard failed to fly from his tower of stone. There has been some notes about the songs being influenced by a 1954 film called "The Silver Chalice" starring Jack Palance
Great choice of song, and I agree with you that Dio-era Rainbow was the band at its finest. Graham Bonnet replaced Dio after he left, so check out “Since You’ve Been Gone” for an indication of the more commercial direction the band took. Cozy Powell apparently hated the change and quit soon after, and Bonnet only lasted for one album. Blackmore was irritated by the fact that Bonnet wouldn’t grow his hair long, and his image was totally wrong for a heavy metal band. Great voice though. Bonnet was replaced by Joe Lynn Turner (whom Blackmore called “Jolene”) and the band started to sound more like Foreigner or Bad Company, alas. I’m looking forward to your next video! Rock on! 🤘🏻
Some good points but also a lot of nonsense. Blackmore irritated? Was he ever anything else? He auditioned & recruited Bonnet & then complained about his image????? Blackmore is one of my favourite guitarists but has a terrible manner & attitude.
Again, another awesome reaction to another great song. I hope you checked out the link to the Faith No More album I sent you. A really ground breaking album. Every song is great. An awesome combination of rap and metal that worked.
I am so happy to be listening to Light in the Black :) Great song and one of the forerunners to the galloping style other bands started doing later. Not that I am a great fan of what became of NWOBHM very much though, in small doses for me, as I am far more rooted in the classic hard and heavy rock.
I bought this album when I was in high school. The song is side B. You should have heard of Stargazer. It is B side. In other words, Stargazer and this song are a set of two. It only makes sense to listen to it in a row. Only these two songs are included on the B side. I'm going home! Freedom from the darkness.
Hi Elok, A hard rocking song when heavy metal was in it's infancy, I was a metalhead when I was a teen and Ronnie James Dio and Richie Blackmore were the best. On your next reaction you should react to a newer band called Slipknot and the song "Psychosocial", It's a Banger
I have to say this was an amazing song, I recommend you to listen and react to the entire RAINBOW RISING álbum. Also you have to know that Deep Purple is the origin of three great bands: RAINBOW, IAN GILLAN BAND (later only GILLAN) and WHITESNAKE, this one led by the great David Coverdale, and you must listen to him, because he had wonderful musicians with him, like IAN PAICE AND also JON LORD. I recommend you begin with a classic tune called FOOL FOR YOUR LOVING. And here is the link: th-cam.com/video/WtznhhKOW5k/w-d-xo.html
So let’s fight because I see your a big fan of the 70’s but you look 16 to 18 years old. Yes I know the current music is not as good as the older music though.
love a gal who got taste in music bravo kiddo .. Rock Will Never Die !!
Cozy Powell on drums is something else 👍
Just listen to Cozy! What a man. That is relentless.
One of the most underappreciated drummers of all time, he is amazing
The drums!!!! Especially during the keyboard and guitar solos remind me of a freight train just driving through the night!
Rainbow - Catch the rainbow
This song is the loudest and speediest for the longest time song in the world. Must be!

Great story
I absolutely love it when the younger generation listens to this classic heavy metal song. Rainbow was just the beginning for Ronnie James Dio.
Great choice Elok. More Rainbow please!
My angel❤❤❤
TY Elok Hsu.. your beauty shines

Hi Elok, Another great review but you’re still covering that pretty smile of yours up. 😘
You have great taste in music....keep it up.
RIP Ronnie Dio. You earned your place, as one of the greatest voices in music.

Sometimes these old solos are so crazy they could be out of a videogame (I love games music, Mega-CD to be the alltime musicmachine)
THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS
You got great taste kid, i also recommend 'man on the silver mountain' also by Rainbow 😁😎👍

The 1st rainbow album has the most memorable songs.
"Rainbow Rising" is their second album, released in 1976. The first one (released in 1975) was titled "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow."

You pronounced my name very well 😅
I wish you can react to Comfortably Numb (live Pulse 1994) soon :D

How are you gonna shout out 47 people in an episode lmao 🤪😂
Rainbow has replaced deep purple in the mid 70s great album
Personally, i would of liked if Blackmore stayed with Deep Purple.
Yeah, it would be really great, not to have one of the best bands in rock history...
Not a big fan of the 70’s, the 80’s was the best era for all music.
So let’s fight because I see your a big fan of the 70’s but you look 16 to 18 years old. Yes I know the current music is not as good as the older music though.

I'm sorry Naruto. You're the third! Lol
