Arsenic and Old Lace. An adaption of a stage play starring Cary Grant as this famous bachelor who comes back to his home in Brooklyn on Halloween after he married the girl nextdoor where his aunts raised him. Corpses buried in the basement, a brother who believes he's Teddy Roosevelt & another who returns with his surgeon who has made him look like Boris Karloff.
del Toro’s “Chronos,” “The Devil’s Backbone,” and “Pan’s Labyrinth.” “Lone Wolf and Cub,” based on Japanese manga, and the package has a hidden schematic of the main character’s weapons-loaded baby carriage. “Zatoichi, the Blind Swordsman” 🤯, Albert Brooks’ “Lost in America” and “Real Life.” “Three Fantastic Journeys by Karel Zeman.” Zeman was a Czech filmmaker known for fantasy films that combine animation and live-action (the disc package is beautiful and the extensive special features are fascinating and informative). There are so many more, depending on your tastes: for film noir, “Double Indemnity,” for Sci-Fi, “Robinson Crusoe on Mars,” anything by Kurosawa, but start with “Seven Samurai.” “Breaker Morant,” “Babette’s Feast,” Ernst Lubitsch’s “To Be or Not to Be,” documentaries “Hoop Dreams”, and “Burden of Dreams” which is about the making of, while mirrorring, Werner Herzog’s film “Fitzcaraldo.” That should get you started 😁
Based on the overall content of your videos, I am rethinking my recommendation of “Babette’s Feast,” “Breaker Morant,” and “To Be or Not To Be” for you. There are still plenty of great choices in the Criterion collection.
Kurosawa. Get em all. Start with Hidden Fortress and then Seven Samurai which is getting a 4k. Dreams too. Oh and Ran is on 4K but thats studio canal. This is the biggest gap i can see in your collection. Kurosawa is the greatest. Oh I forgot Ikiru, you can start there too absolutely incredible cinema.
Honestly I’d say you need House (1977). It’s the most uniquely edited movie you’ll ever see. It’s got this Scooby Doo aspect to it but the movie itself is the most batshit thing ever. Technically a horror movie, too. Great way to move more into Japanese movies imo. Plus that poster!! Also, may as well get Elephant Man and Inland Empire to cap off the Lynch, also may as well get that Videodrome 4K!Gotta have that.
Risky Business seems like a must for you - 80s teen film with a Tangerine Dream score in 4k? Also Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Deep Cover with Larry Fishburne also seems right up your alley, fantastic soundtrack and also Jeff Goldblum playing a mob boss. I'd also highly recommend Le Samourai. If you like Drive, Le Samourai kind of set the blueprint for the quiet and violent professional.
Man, if you or anyone else doesn't have House (1977 Japanese film) it is an essential add to your collection! The movie is absolutely bonkers and a lot of fun. The soundtrack is sweet as well!
I agree with this 100%. Come and See is a masterpiece on so many levels!! The fact that they used live ammunition during the infamous "cow" scene is mind numbing.
Night of the Hunter is a really good Horror adjacent mommy’s evil boyfriend movie and Paris Texas is one of the most powerful dramas if you’re lookin for non horror recommendations. I’m a big fan of your content keep it going man!
Christian expand your horizon, I’d recommend a few titles that absolutely blew me away: 1. FISH TANK 2. RATCATCHER 3. GHOST DOG: THE WAY OF THE SAMURAI 4. SAFE 5. TAMPOPO 6. SECRETS AND LIES 7. PERFECT DAYS (4K) 8. McCABE & MRS. MILLER (4K) 9. WILDLIFE 10. DAYS OF HEAVEN (4K)
Crash is my favorite David Cronenberg film, largely because of its unsettling exploration of how technology reshapes and distorts human sexuality, ultimately alienating us from genuine intimacy. As you delve deeper into its themes, the film raises haunting questions about how technological progress can erode our connection to natural human closeness.
From some of the Criterion titles in my collection that you didn't mention, I'd recommend: 1) My 3 favorite Gilliam films (Brazil, Time Bandits, and The Adventures of Baron Munchhausen) 2) Chaplin's The Great Dictator and Modern Times (both more than hold up today and are still extremely relevant) 3) My favorite Coen Brother's flick: Miller's Crossing 4) Orson Welles' The Trial (if you like Kafka (he's my favorite author, and The Trial my favorite novel)) 5) Lady Snowblood (If you're a fan of Kill Bill) 6) House (1977) (If you're in the mood for surreal 70s J-Horror) 7) The Piano My own planned pickups for the sale include: Videodrome on 4K, the new Pandora's Box blu ray (upgrading my Criterion DVD), and a blind buy of one of the following: Demon Pond, The Color of Pomegranates, Judex, or Come and See.
Good lord. I can’t believe nobody has recommended the two best Criterion release movies ever: “Thelma & Louise” which is a masterpiece, and “Y Tu Mama Tambien” which is also a masterpiece. You must get them!
TARGETS - With Boris Karloff. Explores the differences between Universal monster horror vs. real-life horror, like mass shootings. POLICE STORY 1 + 2 - Amazing action movies. First maybe being my favorite. MONSIEUR VERDOUX - Charlie Chaplin plays a murderer that targets widows. It's just so odd that this exists.
I think Picnic at Hanging Rock would blow you away. Great film with an amazing soundtrack. Cul De Sac is great as well. My favorite Roman Polanski film.
My favorite Christmas film is not your average holiday film: JOHN WATER'S FEMALE TROUBLE! It begins at Christmas and goes downhill (for the protagonist) and become 🦇💩 crazy AF! Also HOUSE (1977) is just insane! I don't do drugs, but it seems like the filmmaker must have been HIGH AF. Also VIDEODROME is a must have for those who like David Cronenberg's work. I recently completed my Criterion collection of Guiellermo Del Toro's films but I must confess the reason I purchased THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE is because of the spine number of the title : 666. Good film too! Happy collecting! Almost forgot: John Frankenheimer's SECONDS (1968) is a trip!
I’d say that Onibaba would be a good choice for you, Cronos, The Devil’s Backbone and Pans labyrinth, fear and loathing in Las Vegas on 4k, beauty and the beast, stalker, the seven samurai, lone wolf and cub collection, zatoichi the blind swordsman collection and throne of blood as well as Blue Velvet! I could go on but any of these titles would be a great addition.
Alright, here are my recommendations! Cronos is a really solid Guillermo Del Toro vampire movie and it’s his first feature length movie House is an insanely weird Japanese horror/fantasy movie that’s pretty fun Thief is a really good 80s crime thriller Deep Cover is an awesome 90s crime movie as well and Jeff Goldblum plays the villain which is really interesting Cure is another great Japanese horror/thriller If you’re a David Bowie fan, Moonage Daydream is pretty interesting Also since you dug Uncut Gems they have an earlier Safdie Brothers movie called Daddy Longlegs which is maybe not quite as unrelentingly stressful but it still gets pretty gnarly
Buy Lone Wolf and Cub, the Zatoichi Collection, The Ingmar Berman collection, The World of Wong Kar Wai, The Fellini collection, The Tati collection, Le Cercle Rouge, M, Berlin Alexanderplatz, Barry Lyndon, Come and see, High and low, the human condition. I pretty much have every Criterion release, I wait for the Barnes and Noble 50 percent off sale and get everything I need. I mean personally I could continue my list but these are a few of my favorites, I will also suggest the Godzilla collection they released if you're into Godzilla. I actually started collecting Criterion before anything else, hope something grabs your eye
Oh man you gotta see Blow Out! One of the greatest endings of all time and De Palma’s best movie in my opinion. Tarantino has even said on the record that he cast Travolta in Pulp Fiction because of this role
You might want to check out the two disc EQUINOX. Its an early piece of work from a series of dudes, including Dave Allen. Interesting to watch a movie from the likes of future contributors to Star Wars !!
Make sure to watch The Unknown on that Todd browning Freaks set. The Unknown is an incredible silent film. Light years ahead of its time in terms of its graphic nature, really phenomenal movie.
I’m a big criterion fan and probably own close to 200 titles. I know this is a horror/cult channel but I figured I would recommend some titles that may be outside of your wheelhouse. Outside of horror my favorite films are classic Hollywood and film Noir. Here are a few greats -Detour -A Matter of life and death -It happened One Night -His Girl Friday -Mildred Pierce -Barcelona -The Before Trilogy -Double Indemnity -Safety Last
All the ones you haven't watched in your collection yet are great! I'd would recommend specifically for you (since you are a horror/80s guy): Robert Altman's 3 WOMEN, HOUSE (Japanese), FUNNY GAMES (German), David Fincher's THE GAME, and Michael Mann's THIEF. If you see any one of those I'm sure you'll be ecstatic!
The Vanishing (1988) Stanley Kubrick told the director that it's one of his favorite movies. You can't get a better recommendation than that. Just don't read anything about it before watching.
I highly highly recommend you pickup Criterion's Island of Lost Souls which is the very first adaptation of H.G. Well's The Island of Dr. Moreau. This is a pre-code Universal Monster Movie Classic. The other you should watch at least once before you die is Criterion's remaster of '1984' - that movie you will come away from it changed. It changed me.
Japan made a ton of horror movies during the '50's and '60's, especially under the moniker starting with 'Ghost-Cat.' Sadly most of these movies are lost in limbo or obscurity. Two survivors from this era are Kuroneko and Onibaba meticulously restored by Criterion and the blu-rays are superb. So if you are looking for old-school Japanese horror that nods to the Universal horror classics, you will want these.
1. Investigation Of A Citizen Above Suspicion 2. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg 3. Repulsion 4. The Phantom Carriage 5. Something Wild 6. Walkabout 7. The Damned 8. Deep Cover 9. Gilda 10. All About Eve
Blue velvet has 4K. Have all the Lynch movies from criterion can’t recommend them enough. If anyone gets inland empire, I still think it is worth keeping the dvd version as an alternative way to watch the orbital without the AI filter upgrade
This thing about criterion is its classic films and foreign selection. Directors such as Federico Fellini, Akira Kurosawa, Ingmar Bergman, Andrei Tarkovsky, terry gilliam,… there is just so much. At some point you should explore and catalog classic masterpieces and foreign films to experience the origin of so many reused concepts and techniques seen in modern day films.
Crash is one of my favorite Cronenberg movies. It fits very well into his oeuvre, specifically, regarding the transformation of man through technology. It just leans heavily into the erotic component that you'll find in Videodrome and eXistenZ (and to a lesser extent Rabid and Shivers). For your Cronenberg/Criterion releases, you need Videodrome and Dead Ringers (OOP). If you are into Japanese cinema or martial arts, pick up The Heroic Trio collection, The Jackie Chan collection, The Lone Wolf and Cub collection (a necessity), the Lady Snowblood collection, Sword of Doom, and any of the Akira Kurosawa movies. Also, any of the Terry Gilliam movies are great, too. A couple of randoms I recommend are Eating Raoul and Fantastic Planet.
Criterion does a lot of great Japanese film releases. If you don't mind subtitles, pick up some killer Kurosawa (Seven Samurai, Yojimbo) or Japanese folk horror (Onibaba, Kwaidan, Kuroneko). Great video!
I'll recommend some horror titles: The Innocents Kuroneko The Uninvited Also, don't be afraid to check out some of the non-English language films (like Kuroneko) in their collection. Directors are always a good starting point. You can't go wrong exploring Kurosawa, Fellini, Bergman, Tarkovsky, or Kieslowski.
La Strada, I bought the dvd criterion on DVD at Amibia Records because an employee told me if I bought it, it would change my, now I spend around an extra 200 buck twice a year because of this guy, humor aside, La Strada is a really great Italian film and really stretch your filmography too.
Dazed and confused is the obvious choice for you. Pretty much all the Wes Anderson movies. No Country For Old Men is one coming out I will get. The new collection that just came out has Doom Generation in it with Rose Mcgowan. That movie is out there but I don't know anything about other movies. Also just cuz I know you are a collector, old dvd Criterion worth getting for collector sake is Robocop, Armageddon, The Rock, and Chasing Amy. John Woo's The Killer and Hard Boiled are grails.
Blowout is phenomenal, more de palma giallo influence. Finish blood simple. If you liked safdies uncut gems you get more heart pounding from their movie good time. Criterion recs you didn't mention are seconds, repulsion, eyes without a face, cronos, pan's labyrinth, david lynch's the art life, videodrome, 8 & 1/2.
Antichrist, the Before Trilogy, Sound of Metal, 12 Angry Men, and Menace 2 Society are the 5 things off the top of my head I would recommend. Each of those are vastly different from each other, but all equally amazing for different reasons
#1 The Vanishing - this is my favorite horror movie of all time. Do not watch the trailer! The trailer spoils the surprise ending. This movie portrays a type of evil that, in my opinion, has never been presented in a more realistic way on screen before, or since. Don't read the description, just blind buy it and let it unfold - you'll never forget it and I promise you'll be thinking about it days after watching it. I watch it every Halloween. Also, it's perfect for repeat viewing because once you know the story, the things you see early in the movie take on a whole new heartbreaking meaning. #2 The Lone Wolf and Cub box set - If you want to see a movie that will make you feel the same way you did when you first saw Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark and or Lord of the Rings... see the first two movies in the Lone Wolf and Cub box set. Lone Wolf and Cub is a popular manga comic series in Japan that was adapted into several successful movies, all of which are in this set. The first two movies are classic blood soaked Samurai action at it's best. The next two movies are solid and then the series goes off the rails with the final film, but those first two... classic and must see movies. Lone Wolf and Cub, along with Lady Snowblood (also a Criterion release) heavily influenced Tarantino's Kill Bill movies. Bob's Burgers also did a parody of Lone Wolf and Cub in one of their episodes.
i only have 5 or 6 criterion, but 2 of my favorites are dazed and confused and the virgin suicides, im sure you already have both of those on other labels but just wanted to mention them
I just got Pans labyrinth on blu ray as it’s better then the current 4k, and I got fear and loathing in Las Vegas. Also Don’t Look Now blu or 4k. And Thief James Cann.
blow out is one of de palma best amazing film great performances all round and a great villain in john lithgow mate you have to watch it asap really surprised you havent already could be one of my favourite films of all time : )
Punch-Drunk Love (besides Uncut Gems the other Adam Sandler Movie that made it to a CC release) Brazil (Terry Gilliam should be right up your alley and Brazil is his best movie by far) Antichrist or Breaking The Waves from Lars von Trier. Both films will definitely change your life for sure. Raging Bull. Strange that you do not have it already within your collection. Cat People and/or I walked with a Zombie - The Seventh Victim Greetings from Germany! Chris
Terry Gilliam mang. Time Bandits, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Fisher King, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Don’t forget Risky Business and The Princess Bride. 🤛🏼
You need to get some Japanese horror movies dude. Get house, kwaidan, cure, pulse, and onibaba. I own all of those on blu ray and trust me when I say you will never regret buying them. They are amazing pieces of cinema.
Anatomy of a fall, Malcom X, The Others, La Haine, Beau Travail, come and see, after hours, Cure, any Coen bros movie, and I just picked up Gregg araki’s teen apocalypse trilogy
Ghost world 2001 (Drama Comedy) House 1977 ( Foreign Horror) Exotica 1994 (Mystery Drama) Leave her to Heaven 1945 (Thriller Drama) Cure 1997 (Foreign Thriller) I’ve noted the genres in case one of these peak your interest. Highly recommend the last two. Keep up the great work Christian!!
If you love True Romance then you should definitely get Something Wild. Man Bites Dog influenced Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon so much. What Scream did to slashers is what The Player does to ‘80s and ‘90s thrillers.
But Haxan is about to see a UK Radiance release with multiple cuts. The Criterion copy has been the standard for awhile, but I think this new one is worth getting over the Criterion.
I hated Crash too. Check out Shallow Grave (Danny Boyle) and Inside Llewyn Davis (Coen Bros). Maybe not be up your alley, but I just watched The Last Temptation of Christ today for the first time and that was a wild ride.
I’m a 50 year old criterion fan since the era of laserdisc 👍🏼…. Well since you run a horror/cult channel you have alot of what I would recommend so if you trust me I’ll just recommend 2 titles out of the box to expand your horizons ….. I noticed in the comments they keep recommending cult stuff 🤦🏻♂️ In no particular order 1 MIDNIGHT COWBOY 1969 2 MENACE II SOCIETY 1993
Drop your recommendations down below please and thank you 🙏 EDIT: I completely forgot to grab dazed and confused! I own that too!
Blow Out is fantastic. So underrated.
CAT PEOPLE (1942) Essential! The first jump scare. Also, someone else mentioned THE UNINVITED. It too, is essential!
i don’t have time to watch yet, but CURE is an absolute must own. my favorite horror movie.
I keep trying to tell him, lol
I'd suggest people hold off on that Criterion. It's getting a 4k from Eureka and a Criterion upgrade will probably follow.
CURE gets the highest recommendation from me. Kiyoshi Kurosawa is an absolute master and it's one of my favorites now.
@@ThisName-e9etrue, but the blu ray is beautiful on its own … and these days it seems like every 4K that comes out is a huge gamble.
Agreed. Cure and Pulse are masterpieces. He also directed Sweet Home which inspired resident evil games.
Probably my favorite old movie. So damn funny
@idiot_city5444 awesome. It's a Halloween must. Cary Grant was so great at comedy.
del Toro’s “Chronos,” “The Devil’s Backbone,” and “Pan’s Labyrinth.” “Lone Wolf and Cub,” based on Japanese manga, and the package has a hidden schematic of the main character’s weapons-loaded baby carriage. Based on the overall content of your videos, I am rethinking my recommendation of “Babette’s Feast,” “Breaker Morant,” and “To Be or Not To Be” for you. There are still plenty of great choices in the Criterion collection.
You’re missing Videodrone to complete the Cronenburg trifecta.
Such awesome packaging for that
Kurosawa. Get em all. Start with Hidden Fortress and then Seven Samurai which is getting a 4k. Dreams too. Oh and Ran is on 4K but thats studio canal. I'd also highly recommend Le Samourai. If you like Drive, Le Samourai kind of set the blueprint for the quiet and violent professional.
The Innocents (1961) is a must-own. Based on the same novella as Flanagan’s Haunting of Bly Manor, only even darker and scarier
The Uninvited (1944). Great ghost story. $15 on Amazon right now.
One of my favorites and a big influence on Guillermo Del Toro.
Dude you have to pick up Raging Bull in 4k. It’s a must!
Man, if you or anyone else doesn't have House (1977 Japanese film) it is an essential add to your collection! The movie is absolutely bonkers and a lot of fun. The soundtrack is sweet as well!
Spot on!!!!!!!!
Christian you have to get Come And See!! It’s amazing!!
I want Wild at Heart 4k
Christian expand your horizon, I’d recommend a few titles that absolutely blew me away:
1. FISH TANK
2. RATCATCHER
3. GHOST DOG: THE WAY OF THE SAMURAI
4. SAFE
5. TAMPOPO
6. SECRETS AND LIES
7. PERFECT DAYS (4K)
8. McCABE & MRS. MILLER (4K)
9. WILDLIFE
After Hours, Vamp & Adventures in Babysitting - a trio of great "lost in the city" movies from the mid-80s!
From some of the Criterion titles in my collection that you didn't mention, I'd recommend:
1) My 3 favorite Gilliam films (Brazil, Time Bandits, and The Adventures of Baron Munchhausen)
2) Chaplin's The Great Dictator and Modern Times (both more than hold up today and are still extremely relevant)
3) My favorite Coen Brother's flick: Miller's Crossing
4) Orson Welles' The Trial (if you like Kafka (he's my favorite author, and The Trial my favorite novel))
5) Lady Snowblood (If you're a fan of Kill Bill)
6) House (1977) (If you're in the mood for surreal 70s J-Horror)
7) The Piano
My own planned pickups for the sale include: Videodrome on 4K, the new Pandora's Box blu ray (upgrading my Criterion DVD), and a blind buy of one of the following: Demon Pond, The Color of Pomegranates, Judex, or Come and See.
Blue Velvet already has a 4K through Criterion. It's absolutely gorgeous!
Good stuff man, watch Blow Out!!!! Persona, Mean Streets, Funny Games, Eyes Without a Face & Paris Texas are must haves!!
Good lord. I can’t believe nobody has recommended the two best Criterion release movies ever: “Thelma & Louise” which is a masterpiece, and “Y Tu Mama Tambien” which is also a masterpiece. You must get them!
Seven Samurai. It will change your life.
You gotta get some John Waters in your collection ! Get Pink Flamingos, it’ll change your life for sure ! You won’t regret it !
Dude Pacino in The Irishman was almost unrecognizable at first to me. So good
Eyes without a face is a good one
YES! "Eyes Without A Face" (1960) is Essential viewing!
ABSOLUTELY!! 💯
Island of Lost Souls, The Blob, Seconds, Police Story 1 & 2, & Videodrome for sure!
Good film too! Happy collecting!
Almost forgot: John Frankenheimer's SECONDS (1968) is a trip!
LOVE CARNIVAL OF SOULS!!!!
Cronos is a really solid Guillermo Del Toro vampire movie and it’s his first feature length movie
House is an insanely weird Japanese horror/fantasy movie that’s pretty fun
Thief is a really good 80s crime thriller
Deep Cover is an awesome 90s crime movie as well and Jeff Goldblum plays the villain which is really interesting
Cure is another great Japanese horror/thriller
If you’re a David Bowie fan, Moonage Daydream is pretty interesting
Also since you dug Uncut Gems they have an earlier Safdie Brothers movie called Daddy Longlegs which is maybe not quite as unrelentingly stressful but it still gets pretty gnarly
Pink flamingos. The piano teacher. Come and see. The celebration. The vanishing
Time Bandits and Adventures of Baron Munchausen!
Oh man you gotta see Blow Out! One of the greatest endings of all time and De Palma’s best movie in my opinion. Tarantino has even said on the record that he cast Travolta in Pulp Fiction because of this role
Michael Mann’s THIEF starring James Caan is great. The Wall-E 4K from Criterion is incredible. Guillermo del Toro’s PINOCCHIO is another must have.
So many great suggestions. Since you mentioned "The Others"/Nicole Kidman, "To Die For" is great
Trainspotting this year was a highlight, Uncut Gems, Pink Flamingos, The last Waltz… there are so many tbh Twin Peaks FWWM is my favorite Lynch film
Carnival of souls is. Amazing.
I recommend Happiness, The Cremator, Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai, and Le Samourai
Trainspotting and Dazed and Confused, I think you'd love those.
You might want to check out the two disc EQUINOX. Its an early piece of work from a series of dudes, including Dave Allen. Interesting to watch a movie from the likes of future contributors to Star Wars !!

Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times, City Lights, and The Great Dictator ❤️
I’m a big criterion fan and probably own close to 200 titles. I know this is a horror/cult channel but I figured I would recommend some titles that may be outside of your wheelhouse. Outside of horror my favorite films are classic Hollywood and film Noir. Here are a few greats
-Detour
-A Matter of life and death
-It happened One Night
-His Girl Friday
-Mildred Pierce
-Barcelona
-The Before Trilogy
-Double Indemnity
-Safety Last
Get all the Akira Kurosawa stuff is a must and the Val Lewton as well
There are so many to choose from. I was gonna type up a big list but instead I’ll just recommend all of the John Waters releases.
Have you ever randomly thought of a plate o' shrimp? I love Repo Man.
The Vanishing (1988)
Stanley Kubrick told the director that it's one of his favorite movies.
You can't get a better recommendation than that.
Just don't read anything about it before watching.
That film stays with you for days. Great recommendation!
I highly highly recommend you pickup Criterion's Island of Lost Souls which is the very first adaptation of H.G. Well's The Island of Dr. Moreau. This is a pre-code Universal Monster Movie Classic. The Thin Red Line
Amores Perros is a Masterpiece that Criterion released. Subtitles but so worth it!!
1. Investigation Of A Citizen Above Suspicion
2. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
3. Repulsion
4. The Phantom Carriage
5. Something Wild
6. Walkabout
7. The Damned
8. Deep Cover
9. Gilda
10. All About Eve

Check out: being John Malkovich, tree of life, moon age daydream, the curious case of Benjamin button, La Haine, the Fisher King
House or Hausu is a MUST!
All that Jazz
Do That Silence Of The Lambs Vid!
Blue Velvet Has A 4k from Criterion
I'll recommend some horror titles:
The Innocents
Kuroneko
The Uninvited
Also, don't be afraid to check out some of the non-English language films (like Kuroneko) in their collection. Directors are always a good starting point. You can't go wrong exploring Kurosawa, Fellini, Bergman, Tarkovsky, or Kieslowski.
Get HAXAN. Yes it's from 1920. Yes it's essential. Also island of lost souls
"The Long Good Friday" 4k for $25 is a good pickup.👍
Antichrist, the Before Trilogy, Sound of Metal, 12 Angry Men, and Menace 2 Society are the 5 things off the top of my head I would recommend. Each of those are vastly different from each other, but all equally amazing for different reasons
I love the shout out to night of the living dead. Best criterion release ever.
Damn u mentioned it right off the bat, Gummo for sure. Idk about changing your life but it will scar it for sure. LoL
Eyes without a face, the phantom carriage, fiend without a face, fantastic planet,Targets, cat people, the uninvited, shallow grave.
i only have 5 or 6 criterion, but 2 of my favorites are dazed and confused and the virgin suicides, im sure you already have both of those on other labels but just wanted to mention them
I just got Pans labyrinth on blu ray as it’s better then the current 4k, and I got fear and loathing in Las Vegas. Also Don’t Look Now blu or 4k. And Thief James Cann.
blow out is one of de palma best amazing film great performances all round and a great villain in john lithgow mate you have to watch it asap really surprised you havent already could be one of my favourite films of all time : )
Withnail and l . A lesser known favorite of mine.
i can’t recommend “to sleep with anger” enough. super eerie southern gothic horror. not in your face at all though. very quiet.
Punch-Drunk Love (besides Uncut Gems the other Adam Sandler Movie that made it to a CC release)
Brazil (Terry Gilliam should be right up your alley and Brazil is his best movie by far)
Antichrist or Breaking The Waves from Lars von Trier. Both films will definitely change your life for sure.
Raging Bull. Strange that you do not have it already within your collection.
Cat People and/or I walked with a Zombie - The Seventh Victim
Greetings from Germany! Chris
Cure 1997
Fear and loathing in Las Vegas
Notld was my first criterion ..one of my all time favorites. I'd recommend Raging Bull, On the Waterfront , Shaft & Do the Right thing
Pick up the newly released double pack of I Walked With A Zombie and Cat People. Excellent transfers!!
Recommendations for Pick-Ups
12 Angry Men
Freaks
Menace II Society
Election
Rosemary’s Baby
Seven Samurai
House (1977)
The Uninvited
Vampyr
Terry Gilliam mang. Time Bandits, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Fisher King, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Don’t forget Risky Business and The Princess Bride. 🤛🏼
and Brazil
@ I was trying to name the 4K’s. I have a feeling Brazil will get an upgrade. I’m holding out for that. 🤓🤞🏼
@ for sure deserves a 4K release. I’m still waiting on Barry Lyndon to get a 4K release as well
You need to get some Japanese horror movies dude. Get house, kwaidan, cure, pulse, and onibaba. I own all of those on blu ray and trust me when I say you will never regret buying them. They are amazing pieces of cinema.
Risky business 4k is one of the 4ks of the year...
Anatomy of a fall, Malcom X, The Others, La Haine, Beau Travail, come and see, after hours, Cure, any Coen bros movie, and I just picked up Gregg araki’s teen apocalypse trilogy
Blue Velvet has a criterion 4k
Ghost world 2001 (Drama Comedy)
House 1977 ( Foreign Horror)
Exotica 1994 (Mystery Drama)
Leave her to Heaven 1945 (Thriller Drama)
Cure 1997 (Foreign Thriller)
I’ve noted the genres in case one of these peak your interest.
Definitely get 1977 House and 1922 Haxan
But Haxan is about to see a UK Radiance release with multiple cuts. The Criterion copy has been the standard for awhile, but I think this new one is worth getting over the Criterion.
@ I haven’t heard of this one I’ll definitely look into it thanks!
The Vanishing AKA "Spoorloos!!!"
I hated Crash too. Check out Shallow Grave (Danny Boyle) and Inside Llewyn Davis (Coen Bros). Maybe not be up your alley, but I just watched The Last Temptation of Christ today for the first time and that was a wild ride.
House is cheesy fun. Sisters is a good one.
I’m a 50 year old criterion fan since the era of laserdisc 👍🏼…. Well since you run a horror/cult channel you have alot of what I would recommend so if you trust me I’ll just recommend 2 titles out of the box to expand your horizons ….. I noticed in the comments they keep recommending cult stuff 🤦🏻♂️
In no particular order
1 MIDNIGHT COWBOY 1969
2 MENACE II SOCIETY 1993
The Princess Bride
