I'm the minority, but I feel if it is masterfully done, in a very honorable way, the family, actors etc are honored, then it's an amazing thing imo. If it's done cheaply, without care for the artist, the legacy, the family, then it deters on pure evil. I know this is CHH's favorite movie, I get his take, but I think may very well be done in a great way, especially since the other actors are involved.
I saw the article last night and I said to my friend "you know they're making a sequel to ROTLD but it's some guy claiming to have rights and it's probably not going to be good" I then mentioned "the original cast members are making their own ROTLD sequel but this article I'm reading makes it sound terrible" I absolutely agree with you and I wonder with their mindset on the other guy using their image without consent has blinded them on using their deceased co-stars ethics. In no way does this honor their legacy. They should of been tributed in the film or maybe photos or their character being mentioned but not "let's pretend they've here"
Earnie and Frank are my favorite characters from ROTLD. I first saw this movie back in 86 when I was 9 years old when it hit home video. It scared the hell out of me but I would watch it any chance I got and as I got older I understood the humor and it became one of my favorite movies of all time.
I did some digging and discovered the director of Trash's Revenge went to jail some years prior for tax fraud after lying about the budget of a movie he had made. Why Linnea and Beverly (the real mastermind behind this project) thought it was a good idea to work with a con man is beyond me.
I just looked it up too, the guy Linnea and Beverly hired was convicted of millions of dollars of fraud?! How is no one talking about this? Everything surrounding this film is SKETCH.

Using CGI without the actors express permission is disturbing, unethical and just all around a shitty thing to do. And these guys aren’t making this new Return of the Living Dead film because they loveeee the franchise so much, it’s because they want to make money, and they have zero problem exploiting these dead actors to do it.

Yeah.... I found this out a couple of days ago, and I was very pissed off. IDGAF, if Linnea and that other actress are working on a "true" ROTLD fan film, doing something like this is a dealbreaker. We shouldn't repeat the mistakes of those who don't ask for permission from said actor's loved ones, or it should be avoided altogether. I'll gladly support the other movie because it has someone who worked on the effects of the original and is at least trying to deliver something interesting with the IP.
The only time putting a deceased actor into a film, that felt right for me, was the use of deleted footage from 1978 of Marlon Brando as Jor-El being used in 2006 in Superman Returns. As for Calfa, and Karen, I would have left them out, or only mention them in a line of dialogue.
I totally agree. Return of the living dead is such an amazing and timeless horror film. As a die hard fan I feel we need to leave this franchise alone. I’m not a big fan of 2 and I like 3 a lot but yea. No remakes or sequels needed.

Now, Tina, Spider, Casey and Chuck gather to honor the lives of their friends, including the old men who saved their lives that night, only for another one of Freddy's doppelgangers to crack open a trioxin can, from which Trash is revealed to have been captured by the military that night. (Also, it would be a trash can. get it?) See? CGI actors aren't necessary.

I saw this movie when I was 6 years old in 1986. It scared me so bad that I became a prepper before prepper was a normal word. I have always prepped as if I was going to be stuck in my place for a very long time and couldn't leave do to a outside threat. It is my favorite horror movie, though. Along with George Romero's day of the dead that came out the same year. Part 2 is a strange pleasure of mine but it still creeps me out lol As for this new one I don't have high hopes as much as I would love another one but we shall see

I'm not sure if you know this CHH play, the actor that played suicide was the same actor that played Victor on Friday the 13th new beginning he was the one that hacked up Joey. I'm not sure how I feel about this fan film thing, but then again, the new Return Of Living Dead doesn't appeal to me either. I think I might pass on them both.

Here is a perspective on the ethics involved: we are all born, and eventually, we pass away -- an inevitable truth of life. Yet, for a fortunate few, their craft grants them immortality. Whether through acting, music, painting, or even being commemorated in a statue, their legacy endures, and I find that profoundly beautiful. It's a rare privilege, and I truly appreciate the idea -- provided, of course, that the family’s permission was sought and granted.
They could just use the actors that are still alive like linnea miguel and thom and just do a movie with them or bring thom back as a zombie like he turned into in the first movie or something that could work.

The first ROTLD was really a product of the 1980s that can't be recreated today. It was the perfect meld of Punk Rock culture & music, cold-war paranoia, current events (Times Beach), comedy, unique cast, and the writing & direction of Dan O'Bannon. None of this can be recreated today. So i don't see much promise in either of these new films, regardless.

If there families consent to it then I think that's all that matters. At the same time given it's a fan film the budget will probably be low so if the CGI looks bad it will leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth who's watching. The only way this could or can work is if the CGI is good and it's only a small cameo of a few brief seconds. If they try to make them a bigger part of the movie then this has DOA written all over it. Between the 2 new Return projects I have more faith in the Living Dead media one turning out watchable over this one.

I absolutely love Clu as Bartender in the Feast trilogy. As for bringing Ernie and Frank back through CGI, im with you, It will look Sh*t!! So many hollywood movies have brought dead actors back to life. Peter Cushing in Revenge of the Sith, Ian Holm as Rook in alien Romulus. And slightly different, Not dead! Harrison Ford in the last Indiana Jones, The tech isnt quite there yet, And for the most part 'Deep Fake' lets not dress it up, its just deep fake, it always looks pretty crap. And for a fan film that will have a micro budget, as you say 'who is asking for this', well im not! So i cant see them getting alot of money to make this movie. And yes, those legends have passed away, just leave them out of it and dedicate the movie in their memory. To bring them back as 'Deep Fakes' is completely unnecessary. On my last note, not necessarily cgi, but bringing a dead actor back to life, Was Donald Pleasence in Halloween Kills flashback scene, For me, i think it was awfull! The likeness and the voice. Using likenesses does work, but it’s a hit and miss. Young Luke skywalker was put into the mandalorian, and people loved it. The fimmakers pulled it off.
I'm fine with her doing her own movie and bringing back some of the original cast, but i think it's in bad taste to bring back people who have passed using cgi.
If you’ve actually seen Kill Her Goats, or his other “film,” Fog City, you would 100% understand why his directing this film, is absolutely no reason whatsoever, to get excited. Steve Wolsh, is someone who has as minimal amount of actual talent, that a director can. He must self-finance, because I can’t imagine any investor putting up capital for this coming DISASTER.
For me the family needs to consent, if they do it's fine with me. It isn't ideal at all though, there really needs to be a really good reason to even have them reappear in the first place. On one hand it's kind of just disgusting or weird to try and keep using someones likeness, especially if it's not done well. At the same time it could be seen as honoring them in a twisted sort of way.
Yeah, it just doesn't smell right. The only thing that could excite me for a new ROTLD movie is if it was backed by a major studio (not happening) although it should, have the same EC Comics look that the original film had along with William Stout's art direction. Both of those are not happening either so it's a no go for me. The only thing that is going for ROTLD 1985 is Kenny Myers name attached. That's it.

It's a gimmick and it got people talking (as evidenced by your making a video about it). Although I agree with your overall point that it seems unnecessary and I won't use any more language other than that out of respect for Linnea, who I've found to be a wonderful person, and Co. I think they mean well.

I think this opens a huge can of worms. It's one thing to use technology if an actor tragically passes in the middle of shooting...It's way different to start adding actors who have long passed to future projects. I don't think it's right to do this as it shits on the work that the actors have spent their entire careers. If you can just CGI anybody you want into a film, why bother with using actual actors?
I think it depends.....if the deceased actor played a major role in a film, probably not. Now, if they only had a very minor role, I can accept that a little more. I had less of an issue than most did in relation to Ian Holm's character being brought back I'm Romulus, as he is a droid model and so there would have been multiples of him around. However, if you are going to do it, do it right, don't release some half assed CGI attempt. That looked awful. The CGI Cushing and Fisher looked 100x better than Ian Holm in Romulus, and that was almost a decade ago.

There are so many fan films F13th,A Nightmare On Elm Street, Halloween, and TCM. Some are better than Hollywood, and if they were offered a role, I would jump on it who wouldn't want to be in a fan film.

I absolutely love Clu as Bartender in the Feast trilogy. As for bringing Ernie and Frank back through CGI, im with you, It will look Sh*t!! So many hollywood movies have brought dead actors back to life. Peter Cushing in Revenge of the Sith, Ian Holm as Rook in alien Romulus. And slightly different, Not dead! Harrison Ford in the last Indiana Jones, The tech isnt quite there yet, And for the most part 'Deep Fake' lets not dress it up, its just deep fake, it always looks pretty crap.
And for a fan film that will have a micro budget, as you say 'who is asking for this', well im not! So i cant see them getting alot of money to make this movie.
And yes, those legends have passed away, just leave them out of it and dedicate the movie in their memory. To bring them back as 'Deep Fakes' is completely unnecessary. On my last note, not necessarily cgi, but bringing a dead actor back to life, Was Donald Pleasence in Halloween Kills flashback scene, For me, i think it was awfull! The likeness and the voice. It just did not scream this IS Dr.Loomis for me. Needed to get that last one out as its mildly related. Great video as ever Christian. Thumbs up man.👍
Using likenesses does work, but it’s a hit and miss. Young Luke skywalker was put into the mandalorian, and people loved it. The fimmakers pulled it off.
I don’t think they would have minded and the family gets paid so I am for it.

I'm fine with her doing her own movie and bringing back some of the original cast, but i think it's in bad taste to bring back people who have passed using cgi.

The only fan film I’ve enjoyed is the Hunt for Gollum. Using CGI within the budget of a fan film to resurrect actors that are dead seems tacky
If you’ve actually seen Kill Her Goats, or his other “film,” Fog City, you would 100% understand why his directing this film, is absolutely no reason whatsoever, to get excited. Steve Wolsh, is someone who has as minimal amount of actual talent, that a director can. He must self-finance, because I can’t imagine any investor putting up capital for this coming DISASTER.
For me the family needs to consent, if they do it's fine with me. It isn't ideal at all though, there really needs to be a really good reason to even have them reappear in the first place. On one hand it's kind of just disgusting or weird to try and keep using someones likeness, especially if it's not done well. At the same time it could be seen as honoring them in a twisted sort of way.
Yeah, it just doesn't smell right. The only thing that could excite me for a new ROTLD movie is if it was backed by a major studio (not happening) although it should, have the same EC Comics look that the original film had along with William Stout's art direction. Both of those are not happening either so it's a no go for me. The only thing that is going for ROTLD 1985 is Kenny Myers name attached. That's it.

But seriously, I love ROTLD and this just sounds like it'll just end up badly. Not a good idea or look for Linnea.

Ugh I have no interest in that sort of distasteful gimmick. Just because you can technically do something doesn't mean it's a good idea.
It's a gimmick and it got people talking (as evidenced by your making a video about it). Although I agree with your overall point that it seems unnecessary and I won't use any more language other than that out of respect for Linnea, who I've found to be a wonderful person, and Co. I think they mean well.
No Return of the Living Dead slander will be tolerated lol it is a classic horror comedy zombie flick. btw I am looking forward to seeing 28 Years Later as well. it is going to be a good 18 months for zombie film fans IMO. Still waiting for World WaZ z part 2 as well Brad Pitt.
If doing cgi do deep fake
I think this opens a huge can of worms. It's one thing to use technology if an actor tragically passes in the middle of shooting...It's way different to start adding actors who have long passed to future projects. I don't think it's right to do this as it shits on the work that the actors have spent their entire careers. If you can just CGI anybody you want into a film, why bother with using actual actors?
I think it depends.....if the deceased actor played a major role in a film, probably not. Now, if they only had a very minor role, I can accept that a little more.
I had less of an issue than most did in relation to Ian Holm's character being brought back I'm Romulus, as he is a droid model and so there would have been multiples of him around. However, if you are going to do it, do it right, don't release some half assed CGI attempt. That looked awful. The CGI Cushing and Fisher looked 100x better than Ian Holm in Romulus, and that was almost a decade ago.
