    I think in the beginning of the show Jeannie was pressured to have kids and Adrienne was pressured to get engaged and married. I am glad they stayed true to themselves and did what's best for them

    The "Real" is helping us today!!! Last year I was dating someone and even though I loved him, I had no peace whatsoever about our relationship. I had to will myself to break it off. I'm 43, single and have never been married. I kept hearing a still small voice telling me "you are settling I have better for you; trust in me". Whew! My happily ever after hasn't happened yet, but I believe it will in the right season with the right person.

      I can so relate to her story as a married woman now to the man I know I'm supposed to be with ..... I must admit I think I needed that time to mature bc I feel like I put him through a lot bc I'm still maturing into the woman he deserves so these first few years now is rough.....I'm still working on growing out of that selfishness

    Couples should always discuss marriage before the proposal. Marriage is not for everyone and couples should make sure it is something that they really want. Marriage is a big step and a huge commitment and it is something that shouldn't be wasted.

    I previously broke off an engagement and it was the hardest thing I've ever done and it came along with a lot of guilt and criticism. I felt trapped and I just felt obligated to say yes, since we had been in a relationship for so long and he was a manipulative person. During the engagement I had terrible anxiety and I knew I made a mistake. Every time I tried to break it off with him he threatened suicide and told me how depressed I was making him. So after A LOT of prayer, I finally had the courage to do it. Of course I could hear the whispers and judgement from everyone and I caught hell from his family for "ruining his life". Meanwhile he damn near ruined mine and I almost failed out of medical school because of him. Came to find out he had multiple women while we were together. Ladies, if it doesn't feel right and you have even an inkling of doubt, TRUST YOUR GUT. Take time to find out if this is the right thing. If you have to break an engagement, BREAK IT. That's much better than a life full of misery and then possibly bringing children into a terrible situation.

    This was a nice, REAL conversation. As women I think we sometimes succumb to societal pressures when it comes to marriage, especially when we're a little more mature in age. Always remember that everyone has a different timeline to their life, it's not a race. Kudos to everyone on the panel for keeping it real!

    The engagement time is not a time to get to know you're partner dude you should know before you get engaged if you dont know by then, dont get engaged!

    • @reppinghana
      @reppinghana 7 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      That's exactly what I was thinking! I do understand pressure and stuff like that but if you go into an engagement with reluctance, that's never a good sign. The engagement period should be a happy time in preparation for marriage.

      Shiva Shiva wrong!

    • @akhonakhumalo5955
      @akhonakhumalo5955 7 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Engagement time IS time to get to know them better, as a future spouse, a life partner, not just dating or getting to know your boyfriend... in the engagement period you start to look for the things you never thought were that important or serious while you were dating, and those little things can be a make or break... otherwise people could just set a wedding date when they're ready and not have to propose, there is a reason why it is an engagement period, not engagement day.

    Jeannie and Adrienne were so transparent and vulnerable here. I'm in my 20s and them talking taught me that life doesn't always work out the way you plan for it to. Engagement really is a good time to see if you're ready to be married to someone, not be with them period, but MARRIED. You can still take the time and date after the girl says no. She just may not be ready. Being sure is better than hoping it'll work out.

    I judge Adrienne... a lot... with exuberant glee... However, I'm on her side with this. If you did watch this show from the beginning, Adrienne practically had a neon sign around her neck "I AM NOT READY TO GET MARRIED TO THIS MAN!" It was certain people that kept making it seem like she HAD to marry him. One of those people have been fired. The other is sweating her ass off in a purple top right here at this very table.

    this is really good advice i could've used about 10yrs ago. i got engaged and eventually married someone i knew deep down wasn't "the one". i think my big mistake was setting a date and got the wedding plans rolling. ..it's hard to back outta that once everyone is all excited. i think had we not set a date it would've been easier without the pressure and pity to just quietly call things off. needless to say we got divorced a looonnggg 2.5yrs later. haha ..great topic ladies! 😘

    dating should be the time that you take to figure out if this person is marriage material not your engagement. engagement is the time that you enjoy planning a wedding and getting ready for married life not still figuring out if this person is for you. and I feel it doesn't take years to figure out if you want this person in your life forever.

    Honestly make sure when you say yes that you really mean it... It is hard to say no just as hard as it is to say yes so you won't hurt the man's feelings ! A man should respect your decision as well , and understand that it's not that you guys aren't amazing but that maybe you should stay off as friends and that's ok !

    I 100% agree with Loni! My last relationship when everything started going downhill, the more he kept asking what I'd say if he were to get down on one knee at the moment. And like she said I was already done, fed up, and just ready to move on at the time. I never got an engagement, probably because every time he asked what I'd say I would tell him no because we weren't ready for it at ALL. So glad I saw this, it spoke volumes to me!!! This was a really real topic. I enjoyed it. I'm glad Loni shared some too! It is quite rare for her. Jeannie is right. My cousin told me when I was in high school about waiting until you're near 30 or at least 30 to marry and not to rush because you are still maturing a lot in your 20's. I know myself a lot more now at 30 than right out of college/high school age. I know back in the day, people married a lot younger but time has change. Don't fall into pressure!

    I been pressured to be married and have kids since I was age 17 that is 13years ago. To this day I have never been married. Thought of marriage brings a bitter taste in mouth. The greatest thing I realized watching this talk show is how people can talk about you but never talk to you but like to cry bloody murder when they don't get their way

    Adrienne says, "ISN'T IT CRAZY HOW YOU JUST KNOW?!" But I could have sworn that she was engaged to Lenny the first year she knew Israel AND she just said that he forgot her name when they first worked together.

    Marriage is sadly meaningless today, some people act as if it's going to stop the cheating etc but it really doesn't. Honestly I don't know if I wanna get married.

      If you watched the show from the beginning, you would know Tamar was not. At the time, A + Tamar were the closest (on and off) - so Tamar know what the deal was. And she was never a fan of that whole situation. Go watch "Adrienne calls off her engagement", "Adrienne talks her boo Israel", Tamar defended her and said you have to do what's right for you. And in the "Excuses For Not Your Number video, A was talking about a basketball player asked for her number at a game, and she said no. Both Loni + Tamar were basically looked at her like she was crazy, and you could pick up the hint that they were saying like umm you know Lenny isn't the one, you should've given him your number.

      Chaka485 And there was also an episode where Tamar distinctly said and I quote ' You don't have to put any pressure on him because I put ALL the pressure on him for you'. Since you wanna be factual babe. Let's not act like that never happened

      Jay 2.0 No matter what Tamar said or didn't say, Adrienne & Lenny are adults who CHOSE to get engaged.

      Nique 08 True... but I'm merely commenting on what I just watched and what Adrienne chose to highlight as a contributing factor to her breaking off her engagement

    Great advices. What about the feeling you get when you date someone a bit older than you and they are ready but they don't realise you are not at the same stage, and you know he is the man for you but you want to wait just a bit more... Kinda like Jeannie said you have to trust that he's going to lead you through it.

    It seems as those these ladies have made a concision decision to address some of the issues that they had with Tamar. Also, it seems as those they are making an attempt to go back to their previous format of talking about their personal lives in a way that will draws you in. Loni is also opening up a lot more talking about very personal experiences and she really is telling us what she thinks of Tamar.
    Adrienna, no matter what you say the pressure you felt lead you right to Isreal so it made you better and I'm glad for you.
    This is situation is truly unfortunate for all involved because if each of you had been honest with yourselves and one another it could have worked out differently nevertheless to God be the glory.

    Loni's makeup is not good today. That translucent powder is makes her look so ashy... use better makeup on her, there are brands that cater well for dark skin women

    I applaudddd Adrienne so so much for sharing and expressing herself , as she did NOT have to do the way so many of you all have been so mean and derogatory towards her. This young woman has been through so much and being in the public eye doesn't make it any easier especially at the time when she was with Lenny.

    I love what Jeannie was shared about wanting wait until she was ready. But I don't think you have to turn down the proposal to wait. If you know in your heart that this is the person you want to marry, why not say yes and then as they said use the engagement to grow. Don't feel pressured to get married right away just because you're engaged. Take the time to be in a healthy space conducive to a healthy marriage. Compromise....

    Adrienne is right, women just stay in relationships hoping that things will improve or change and waste years just waiting but then realize it is better to be without him/her rather than settling for someone you are not happy with. Others just stay because they fear they will never find anyone else, especially women past the age of 30, they worry cause they're getting older. Better to be alone and happy than be with someone who makes you miserable.
