I think you missed the point with the Sharpedo entry. Shiny Pokemon are like albino or melanistic animals, the reason why they are so rare is both genetics and that their alternate colors *hinder their survival in the wild.* If shiny colors were helpful they would be more common. So yeah, Sharpedo's shiny colors do make sense, its like an albino shark sticking out like a sore thumb that is lucky to have survived long enough for you to capture it.
I'm not to sure about that, most pokémon already don't blend with their habitat and don't need camouflage (their abilities are enought wasn't it?), so I think it's not for every pokémon that its shiny form is like albino or melanistic, besides, isn't albino more just the lack of color (and other health problems sometimes) maybe shinies are really just to be special rarities for the fans and not for the biology of the world, Idrk, I need to research that more later
I think I can justify Chandelures shiny being orange flames. Don't quote me on this, but I think the myth is that if you were to see an ORANGE hitodama at night, it was actually the spirit of royalty or someone of significant power or status. So basically, if your Chandelure is orange, he/she has the souls of the wealthy/royal stirring up inside them! Don't really know how to justify his sickly looking green glass though.
I think it has to do with their belief that one's accomplishments makes them greater in spirit. To achieve a high social status or a large amount of wealth is to have a strong spirit.
+TheGCritic not really. one represents yin and one represents yang so it wouldnt really make sense for them to switch. yin is black and yang is white. thats how it is supposed to be
+Jared Hammerman thanks for explaining something that is common knowledge, but you're missing the point. a color swap would've been perfect for those two because it was so simple and it worked. not that hard to flip a yin yang symbol.
+HoodlumScrafty i once came across a shiny Kecleon, then i looked away, then the camera showed only its upper body when i looked back, i clicked Outrage, then the camera zoomed out and i saw the blue f*cking belt.... yay also, do color palette limitations still apply to gen 3 and beyond? i thought they didnt, since a GBA could show pretty much all colors at once already, so thats no excuse for both Kecleon and Sharpedo
what about protean? greninja changing colors? YASS! but then u have to account for moves like role play and skill swap, which means any pokemon with protean/color change SHOULD have their colors change as well... but ykno... No
In all fairness for Sharpedo, shinies (at least to me) somewhat represent albino animals in the sense that they're rare color alterations of their species. And albino animals typically die because they lack the natural camouflage needed to hunt or hide. So it would make a little sense to make his shiny something that wouldn't camouflage well in the water. Much as a albino shark would have a difficult time hunting because it lacked it's counter-shade colouration.
sharpedo makes sense. a theory behind shinies is that they are rare BECAUSE they don't match their natural habitat. shiny sharpedo would therefore not be able to blend in and become rare (also tfw I liked all but 3 of those on the list)
Tell me, for a pokemon based upon a sarcophagus, literally a gold coffin, would you rather have it be a dull grey and pink, or gold and blue like an actual sarcophagus? It's normal form looks actually kind of cool, but it's shiny colors are just complete garbage. It's friggin pink and grey. Also, "interesting and cool" are not adjectives I'd use to describe the color schemes of some pokemon's shiny form. Some of their color schemes are interesting because they make sense, such as Deoxys, whose shiny and non-shiny forms make up the 4 colors that the proteins in DNA are depicted as (Red, Blue, yellow, and green).
Sergeant Sarcasm I like shiny cofagrigus, I want to know how it's colours are "complete garbage". Also, a sarcophagus is blue and gold, but it's shiny is different, which is what makes it cool and interesting. With Deoxys, it's honestly probably in the Pokemon "Justices" because it makes sense based on real world logic. Deoxys is cool and all, but making sense doesn't make it a better colour scheme than one who's scheme doesn't.
Gregory Gregson So you're saying that a ghost pokemon that is based upon a real life object looks better when it's got pink on it? Yeah, dude, pink is a complete garbage color for really any ghost pokemon and a pokemon whose basis is a sarcophagus. I was only using Deoxys as an example. I would not try to get a shiny Deoxys unless I was able to trade over a normal Deoxys, because then I could send out both in a double battle, and it would be just like I had all 4 of the primary proteins in DNA, so yeah, to me it is kind of cool. Anyways, If I saw a shiny cofagrigus in a game, I would not be able to take it seriously as it's pink and grey coloration kind of ruin the pokemon's "Cursed Sarcophagus" feel, replacing it with "hey, I'm pink and grey, two colors which should never be put on a single pokemon." Tell me, Do you think Stantlers shiny form looks good? Just because something is a different color than what it is supposed to be, doesn't make it automatically better.
Yeah the reason that Vivillon's wings weren't changed was because the patterns represent the environment that they are endemic to. Logically, Game Freak would like to keep their picture/habitat gimmick whole and only change the body.
I like to think that Sharpedo is an example of mutations aren't always helpful. Shiny Sharpedos, due to their color would make it significantly harder to survive and pass on their genes. Which is why it's rare. This could be applicable to most shiny pokemon I suppose. (basically what I'm trying to argue is that Shiny Sharpedo isn't an injustice but rather a stroke of genius)
I was going to say the same. In the world of "pokemon fan theories," shiny pokemon are rare because the colors they have make it harder to survive/reproduce. So it's not that much of an injustice when looked at that way.
YES this is the kind of collaboration I can get behind. It isn't forcing a random video into two parts just to SHAMELESSLY bolster a friend's standings. You have one niche on one channel, another niche on the other, and two hosts that have reason to be there on each video! This works! Thank you Callum!
What about Castform? The shiny color in its default form is already meh, but then it becomes the only Pokemon that has zero difference between shiny and non-shiny when it changes into its weather forms. Not even a barely noticeable difference like Garchomp, just flat out the exact same as the regular coloration.
"Sharpedo's shiny color doesn't scientifically make sense." Yeah, well, a floating fiery lamp with ghost powers doesn't scientifically make sense either, but I don't see anybody questioning it, so....
Okay, but have you stopped to read Kecleon's pokedéx entries? "Kecleon is capable of changing its body colors at will to blend in with its surroundings. There is one exception - this Pokémon can't change the zigzag pattern on its belly." A Purple Kecleon isn't special, it's just one of the many colors Kecleon can change into, and it still has the red stripe. THAT is why the zigzag pattern is the only thing that changes in the shiny form - it's the only thing that isn't supposed to change, the only part of its body Kecleon has no control over. It makes sense from a lore standpoint.
The grey on Diggersby could be clay. Actually, I think the fact that Vivillon has so many different forms is the reason they didn't bother with the wings for the shinies. 16 different palettes must have been enough of a hassle to come up with. You're complaining because they didn't give you 32?
Add to that the fact that Vivillon's patterns are region specific. There is definitely an emphasis on collecting all the patterns - if they made us have to obtain shinies from every region in order to get all the patterns, they'd just be jerks. I'm still upset that I missed the Pokeball Vivillon. I found out about the event just a couple days after it ended... I'm glad there wasn't a second pattern I'll never find.
Cofagrigus' shiny is brilliant. In the Nile Delta, they found a tomb belonging to 21st dynasty ruler Psusennes I. When they opened it up, they found a silver coffin. In Egypt, silver(shiny) was harder to find than gold(normal) was, and most of the other coffins were made of gold, which was why this coffin in particular was so surprising to find. This is proof that I have way too much time on my hands...
Prior to Gen 6, all Shiny Pokemon pallets used the pallet immediately to the left of them to the color wheel. That's why pink Pokemon always turn blue and certain colors always turn another or are left nearly identical to the original. Gamefreak couldn't do anything about it. I understand you didn't know this, but this whole video is pointless because of that.
+KillMeIfYouDontLikeAnime AnimeFan41 That wouldn't explain why magcargo and nidoqueen look so much different from slugma and nidorina as shinies. Or why swalot and gulpin look different, but not as shinies, for that matter.
Well, to be fair, for the Magcargo and Nidoqueen argument, it's because they use SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT colors than their prior forms, thus, leading to a different color beside them, thus, the differences are pretty different. So, those make sense, and for the other, those two pokemon DO use slightly different shades of blues, so what if, just stick with me here, what if both colors just so happen to be next to a shade of blue?
They've had time to rectify things. Ponyta and Rapidash, for instance, swapped blue and grey flames after 2nd gen. This excuse doesn't hold water for anything after 2nd gen. If they made that pointless swap, they could have changed others as well.
Why would blue flames not make sense on Fire-type pokemon? Blue flames just mean either they're burning at a much higher temperature or their bodies are releasing certain materials that produce a blue flame when they combust.
I like purple Kecleon, but I feel like no one else has read Kecleons pokedex entries, which almost all talk about how the only part of its body it can't change the color of is the stripe, so it makes sense for the stripe to be a different color for the shiny.
The arguments for the two 5th gen ghosts are kinda stupid in my opinion. Chandelure's shiny doesn't need a blue flame because regular Chandelure has blue flames and Cofagrigus' shiny doesn't need a gold coffin because regular Cofagrigus has a gold ciffin
Just admit it: you guys don't like pink. Don't try to bullshit us with some "evolutionary science" crap. It's fucking Pokémon. A pink shark is totally fine. In fact, it's better than a (COMMON) orange lizard living in the mountains. That shit would NOT blend in.
+Mephostopheles They'd blend in if they lived in an area rich in red ochre, but I see your point. Personally I think the fact that shiny Butterfree _isn't_ pink (like the one from the series) is a bigger injustice.
the reason only kecleons stripe changes is because that stripe is the only part of kecleon that does not change color normally so it would not make sense to color anything else when outside of the games it changes color on its own
I'm sorry, but I must disagree with you on Gallade. I see shiny Gardevoir and Gallade meaning more than just how they look. Since the color black is generally seen with evil and white seen with good, I think their colors mean something, like Gardevoir is the dark witch and Gallade is the warrior of just.
Here's an idea for a video, Removed TMs. for example, Iron Tail was unobtainable after generation 4. Why was it removed? so far, I myself haven't gotten an answer.
I think the idea with kecleon's shiny was because when it changes color only the stripe doesn't change, so that would be the only part of the shiny that changes.
the reason it is special for keckleon to have just a blue stripe is because it can change all its skin color except the ring. Read the pokedex entries for kecleon for God's sake
John Pokemon, the creator of the Pokemon franchise, was very inspired by Tex Avery and immortalized this inspiration with the shiny Diggersby by making it look very similar to Bugs Bunny.
i feel like there's an easy justification for kecleon's shiny; since it's a chameleon it's gonna change colors. a lot. and even the purple kecleon's stripe in the anime/mystery dungeon series is red, so there's a pretty good chance that the purple kecleon was like any normal kecleon but just was purple at that time. if it was shiny it'd still be purple, but with a blue stripe instead. i'm not 100% sure how long they would stay a certain color though
I've never seen a shiny vivillon before and i can agree with you two. i believe spidna should be mentioned too because even though each spidna is unique for always having a different generated spot pattern they just turned the shiny version gold when the original color is tan.
Where you guys see pink, I don't see pink at all. I see purple, and I actually like the way the purple looks. But still, discussing wasted opportunities in terms of shiny pokemon is fine by me; I totally agree with the assessment of Mega Gallade. It still looks cool, but a black cape would've put it over the top. :(
4:42 actually, in ancient Egypt silver was considered a lot more valuable than gold because it was even more rare, so Cophagrigus' shiny being silver makes sense to me, i have no explanation for the pink though
Facts about shinnies, before gen 6 all shiny pokemon just had a simple pallet swap and the colors just moved up/down a number but after 3d models they had full control of what the shiny looks like.
I think that #5 does make sense, since it wouldn't be good at camouflage it would be spotted easier by predators (although I'm not sure what would feed on sharpedo) there wouldn't be as many shiny sharpedos so that would be a reason why it's shiny is rare
I love shiny cofagregiuses shiny, I mean what other color could they have used? I'm not hating I'm just saying that I think it looks kickass and I would gladly hunt for hours to catch one!
i think i might be able to justify Confagrigus. it looks blue because in Egypt Lapis Lazuli (a blue mineral) is highly common and is used for sarcophaguses (usually partnered with gold) yes it is probably stone because Lapis is a much brighter blue but i just wanted to shed a little more light on the shiny
i feel dragonite is a big injustice, it's two previous from were a harsh pink, sure, but I don't think it deserved the hideous olive green treatment it got. I know there was limited color, but a gray purple like they put in its wings, would have been amazing.
mh why leave the wings untouched idk so they wouldn't have to make a shiny form for each pattern just a guess cause it was probably a pain in the ass to make all the forms any way
Azumarill -- Why the HELL does its shiny version turn from green to yellow, when the normal version stays mostly blue at all three stages? Yellow's a terrible color for Water-types; green and blue blend in.
There's a reason for Kecleon's shiny changing only the stripe. Kecleon is a chameleon. Meaning it can change its color. Except for its stripe. It is unable to hide its stripe.
Vivillon doesn't have multiple models. it has one model and multiple textures. it has one texture per wing and two for it's body. If they did different colors for the shines of each wing, that'd be twice the amount of wings they have and they'd all still have to thematically match where they're found in the world
I never get shinies and I have played lots of Pokemon but seeing shinies that barely change It makes me wonder if I've seen a lot of shinies and didn't know
I think the reason they didn't change Vivillon's wings is because if they did that, that would mean that there would be 56 types of Vivillon with 2 of them being currently impossible because they are event Pokemon and 26 being extremely rare. Also, the fact that each forme of Vivillon is exclusive to certain parts of the real world, that makes some of them difficult to get as it is. If they had made the wings different for shiny Vivillon, I don't think anyone would look down upon someone for cheating to get them all.
I'd imagine the reason only vivillon's body looks different in shiny form is that it was enough work as is to make all the different wing patterns, and different wings would double that work, probably more trouble than the developers wanted to go through. Though it'd be cool to at least give a couple different varieties special shiny wings, especially the poké ball one, like you said. I think it's the same idea for kecleon, its colour changes a lot, and its band is supposedly the only constant colour it has, so that's the only thing that changes in shiny form, because it's really all that matters. Though as said by others, it might make more sense if kecleon's colour actually changed on screen rather than being described, though again, might take more work (sounds simple in theory, but I've never rendered an animated 3d game character model myself, so what do I know).
Wouldn't it actually make MORE sense for shiny Sharpedo to be pink, or another colour that doesn't hide it very well? Shiny Sharpedo is supposed to be rare, like shiny Pokémon are, there is something called Natural Selection, in which animals that are better suited to their environment breed more, the animals that cannot survive as well don't breed nearly as much. With this in mind it makes sense that shiny Sharpedo's colour would not be as ideal for survival as regular Sharpedo.
+Diana Saucedo (Sinful Homestuck Trash) Yeah I've always viewed pokemon like Eevee and Sharpedo as "Albinos" of the pokemon world. Pokemon that wouldn't blend in naturally with their environment, are rare, and (if you take gen2 shiny mechanics into account) are weaker because of it!
aber kecleon. The pokemon was released in RSE GBA Games (and pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red, where purple kecleon also appeared, was also GBA) I dont think that the GBA has that much of a pallette limitation.
Exactly
Thank you! i think my profile pic would show you how i can connect
yep
Pretty much. There is a reason shinies are rare.
Don't really know how to justify his sickly looking green glass though.
maybe the green is stained glass?
+Sharded Gem It's an myth. Likely coming from ancient Japan. They believed rich people were way more important.
I think it has to do with their belief that one's accomplishments makes them greater in spirit. To achieve a high social status or a large amount of wealth is to have a strong spirit.
You know what's an injustice? Not making shiny Zekrom white and shiny Reshiram black.
that would have been so fuckin cool
+TheGCritic not really. one represents yin and one represents yang so it wouldnt really make sense for them to switch. yin is black and yang is white. thats how it is supposed to be

apparently its not clear to that person or you. it wouldnt make sense to have a white yin or a black yang.
Palkia was a giant screw-up, as well, like, HONESTLY, WHO. IS . SUPPOSED. TO. TAKE. THAT. SERIOUS!?!
I think the Color Change ability should change Kecleon's color when it is hit. Everywhere but the stripe.
Would that be a good compromise?
Yes

Shiny diggersby is meant to be digging in snow
Or limestone/chalk
This is true
Or clay
Tyree Randall Clay isn't white?

I think Mega Galade having a white cape kinda fits, but that could be because I like the whole White Knight/Black Widow (or Grieving Widow) thing.

"Sarcophaguses ain't grey" Isn't the point of shiny pokemon to be interesting and cool to look at? Why do they have to be realistic?
Well, some shinies do have real world influences, like Clawitzer.
Fiona McCann
Doesn't mean it's an injustice.

The arguments for the two 5th gen ghosts are kinda stupid in my opinion. Chandelure's shiny doesn't need a blue flame because regular Chandelure has blue flames and Cofagrigus' shiny doesn't need a gold coffin because regular Cofagrigus has a gold ciffin
coffin*
Actually, they're purple.
Just admit it: you guys don't like pink. Don't try to bullshit us with some "evolutionary science" crap. It's fucking Pokémon. A pink shark is totally fine. In fact, it's better than a (COMMON) orange lizard living in the mountains. That shit would NOT blend in.
well this is injustices so they still have to back it up
+Mephostopheles
They'd blend in if they lived in an area rich in red ochre, but I see your point.
Personally I think the fact that shiny Butterfree _isn't_ pink (like the one from the series) is a bigger injustice.
I completely agree. This is a stupid list. I like hoodlum, but I love purple and pink is not a bad color. Whatever :3
+Mephostopheles this is why I hate boys =.= boys are just stupid they don't see pink as a awsome color
Nice profile picture...
I always thought that cofagrigus' shiny suppose to look like a medieval iron maiden.
Love the vids Scrafty. Hope to see more soon!
love the sinnoh music remix! whats the specific song name? i know it says the artist in the desc., but what song
For number 9, Emboar and Ponita's shiny do make sense because when fire gets hot enough, it becomes blue.
Great video guys it's nice to this come back :)
I always thought Shiny Diggersby was meant to be a reference to Bugs Bunny. Ya cant denie it looks like him as a shiny.
the reason only kecleons stripe changes is because that stripe is the only part of kecleon that does not change color normally so it would not make sense to color anything else when outside of the games it changes color on its own
shiny sharpedo is from a dimension where all of the ocean water on earth suddenly turned into grape soda
All black people immediately dove into the ocean and drowned because they cants swim!
Don't kill me I'm black
Aiden Nelson I mean, I get it but its not making me laugh
I'm sorry, but I must disagree with you on Gallade. I see shiny Gardevoir and Gallade meaning more than just how they look. Since the color black is generally seen with evil and white seen with good, I think their colors mean something, like Gardevoir is the dark witch and Gallade is the warrior of just.
I always saw shiny Mega Gardevoir as being someone at a funeral like how Mega Gardevoir looks like a bride.
yoo been waiting for this vid, keep up the awesome work 😁
Here's an idea for a video, Removed TMs. for example, Iron Tail was unobtainable after generation 4. Why was it removed? so far, I myself haven't gotten an answer.
I think the idea with kecleon's shiny was because when it changes color only the stripe doesn't change, so that would be the only part of the shiny that changes.
Cofagrigus is an amazing shiny
Why are the most hated colors of shinies pink and green?
I guess it's because they don't compliment the design in most cases.
+Fiona McCann question(this'll make sense if u say yes) but have u ever watched the tv show Chowder before?
+Dalton Bishop lmao what does Chowder have to do with anything?
+Dalton Bishop Yes.
Really liked this video compared to the previous ones (sorry), looking forward to more in the future.
Is it just me or are half of the Pokémon that they're calling pink actually purple?
I really hope crobat is on this list, since it's a stealth pokemon and it goes pink, do i need to say more?
of all the pokemon that are pink on this list, why didn't crobat even get a honourable mention?!
On shiny moltres, it looks like someone cooked their thanksgiving turkey so badly, that it's raw, and on fire.
the reason it is special for keckleon to have just a blue stripe is because it can change all its skin color except the ring.
Read the pokedex entries for kecleon for God's sake
John Pokemon, the creator of the Pokemon franchise, was very inspired by Tex Avery and immortalized this inspiration with the shiny Diggersby by making it look very similar to Bugs Bunny.
In the video how did the Pokemon look at the trainer? (Turn its head)
i feel like there's an easy justification for kecleon's shiny; since it's a chameleon it's gonna change colors. a lot. and even the purple kecleon's stripe in the anime/mystery dungeon series is red, so there's a pretty good chance that the purple kecleon was like any normal kecleon but just was purple at that time. if it was shiny it'd still be purple, but with a blue stripe instead. i'm not 100% sure how long they would stay a certain color though
I've never seen a shiny vivillon before and i can agree with you two. i believe spidna should be mentioned too because even though each spidna is unique for always having a different generated spot pattern they just turned the shiny version gold when the original color is tan.
moltres looks like it got a bad sunburn and it's ironic because it's a fire type.
could you include feraligator in the hardly changed ones. its spikes change colour thats all
4:42 actually, in ancient Egypt silver was considered a lot more valuable than gold because it was even more rare, so Cophagrigus' shiny being silver makes sense to me, i have no explanation for the pink though
Facts about shinnies, before gen 6 all shiny pokemon just had a simple pallet swap and the colors just moved up/down a number but after 3d models they had full control of what the shiny looks like.
They clearly hate pink lol
why do you hate the pink/purple ones? (macargo/kyogre) they look awesome!
I think Shiny Kyogre doesn't look better then base Kyogre but at least it's not shiny Groudon (Fortunately ORAS made their shiny primal forms amazing)
keep it up callum and speqtor
I was expecting the Shiny Mega Lati twins to be number 1. Whats the opinion on those two?
As soon as you mentioned Swalot, I looked for Shiny Swalot in the comments.
At least Gengar's mega shiny is really cool.
+Top_Pig_123 King Boo, attack!
I think that #5 does make sense, since it wouldn't be good at camouflage it would be spotted easier by predators (although I'm not sure what would feed on sharpedo) there wouldn't be as many shiny sharpedos so that would be a reason why it's shiny is rare
I thought the diggersby one was because it grew strong enough to break through concrete floors. Eh, maybe it's just me. Love the video!
Where is Togekiss? The swap coloured ears?
I love shiny cofagregiuses shiny, I mean what other color could they have used? I'm not hating I'm just saying that I think it looks kickass and I would gladly hunt for hours to catch one!
wow i thought the purple kecleon was the shiny in game, that kinda blows hard that its just a blue stripe
what do y’all have against pink shinies
i think i might be able to justify Confagrigus. it looks blue because in Egypt Lapis Lazuli (a blue mineral) is highly common and is used for sarcophaguses (usually partnered with gold) yes it is probably stone because Lapis is a much brighter blue but i just wanted to shed a little more light on the shiny
also for Diggersby the gray stuff isn't his fur its white cement so technically it is still dirty
i feel dragonite is a big injustice, it's two previous from were a harsh pink, sure, but I don't think it deserved the hideous olive green treatment it got.
Yellow's a terrible color for Water-types; green and blue blend in.
hitodamas (aka japanese will-o-wisps) can be orange or red so shiny chandelure makes sense a bit
but i prefer normal one
There's a reason for Kecleon's shiny changing only the stripe. Kecleon is a chameleon. Meaning it can change its color. Except for its stripe. It is unable to hide its stripe.
Can you do another video about bad shinies but leave out the pink one.
Vivillon doesn't have multiple models. it has one model and multiple textures. it has one texture per wing and two for it's body. If they did different colors for the shines of each wing, that'd be twice the amount of wings they have and they'd all still have to thematically match where they're found in the world
With Kecleons situation the same would go for zangoose, the little red stripe changes to blue
I never get shinies and I have played lots of Pokemon but seeing shinies that barely change It makes me wonder if I've seen a lot of shinies and didn't know
been playing since soul silver and found all of 1 shiny (fricking grouse)
I think the pink color of Sharpedo could be an explanaiton to why he's so rare, if it gets more noticed with that color its less likely to survive
I just love the injustice description for moltress
If you ask me. I think shiny moltres should have been a golden brown color It's literally a flaming bird. It's makes sense!
I think Cofagrigus is gray because when the coffins are found in pyramids, they are covered by too much dust that turned them into gray color.
awww what's wrong with Diggersby looking like Bugs Bunny? Lolz
+Dimz Noms
and digging in chalk?
+Monica Nonya When you put it that way, Gen 2 shiny's made the most sense when you consider they're pretty much the equivalent to albino's in nature.
aber kecleon. The pokemon was released in RSE GBA Games (and pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red, where purple kecleon also appeared, was also GBA) I dont think that the GBA has that much of a pallette limitation.
