      My best friends dog is 4 and he's a pit. He has always been so sweet but he is definitely fear reactive on a leash or even off leash around men and dogs. He did not used to be but he has gotten really reactive to the point that she had him in her car and a dog was fown the road and walking nicely and he bolted out of her car.. he immediately attacked the dog. Now she is completely petrified to take her dog on a walk and won't. He drags her all over doesnt listen to almost anything she says no matter what she does even in the house to where if he knows he's going out the door he is instantly all over the place and very vocal. I have gone over and worked on making him calm down before he's allowed out the door and it takes a LONG time for him to get there and he still is almost never ready for it. I wish she could afford to come see you your only a 3 hour drive away! I'm so sad for her and him because she's at a loss of how to fix things and him being inside is only going to make his excitement more intense 😢

      @@laceylou4155 Well thats a pitbull, why would she get a dog bred for fighting and then be surprised it attacks other dogs? A border collie is bred for herding, terriers for hunting rats and such, and pits is bred for fighting. Can't fanthom why anyone would keep them as a pet, unless it's for dog fighting which is unbelievably horrible.

      @@jogu1001 I don't really agree with that statement because in my opinion and life experiences any dog can attack or be aggressive etc. It doesn't honestly matter the breed. Fear based reactivity is fear based reactivity...... unfortunately breed shaming is so common and some have bad reputations... which is the only reason I mentioned he is a pitty. Some trainers know what works better for specific breeds and that was the only reason I brought it up.

    It took me a long time to learn this, the owner's are walking fast to "keep up with the dog" and trying to "make the dog look good". Catch yourself doing that and remind yourself to slow down. Even if you're walking in slow-motion if the dog walks in front of you, do a correction. Don't walk fast to make it look like the dog is walking beside you. Even as a drill, do speed changes with your walking to test that your dog is really paying attention.

      But the owner didn’t even have the leash at one point! How can she do a correction if she doesn’t have the leash? And he is telling her to slow down, but also cut in! What choice does she have?! Either she has to speed up to cut in front, or she will just be bumping into the dog’s midsection. It’s a no-win-situation! I’m confused, frustrated and annoyed!

A lot come in with real tense energy that their dogs ate mirroring. It really highlights the "No Bad Dogs" message. These videos are amazing. I've been trying to positive only train my 2 year old boxer/pitbull I literally climbed through the window of a drug house to rescue. She was TERRIFIED of men, especially dark skinned men & tried to bite my dad once. Super reactive to strangers, doorbell, dogs walking past the window, bunnies in the backyard, pretty much anything that moves. She was so protected over myself and my kids that nobody could even hug me! Within 2 weeks I'm seeing a MASSIVE difference. She isn't taking me for a walk anymore, and I'm no longer worried she'll bite someone. Thank you so much!

    This may sound silly, but I’ve used some of the principles you’ve taught in working with my horses and it has helped there too. Basically how to walk more confidently and give my dogs and horses a leader to follow. Also has helped my timing with both. I guess basic training principles can be universal.

    Yeah, growing up I was with animals whenever and wherever I could. Dogs, cats, horses, cows, pigs, chickens, rabbits ... I used to walk all the dogs that they would let me and as soon as I was allowed to (at age 12) I walked the dogs of the local shelter. Didn't take long and they let me take any dog I picked and even take it them out of the cage and put them back all on my own.
    Things where a lot easier and more instinctual by then. Nowadays I always have to check myself on things you see in any of the training videos here. Body language, timing, clarity ... It just makes a world of difference if you can be with animals for hours on hours any given day or if you have all in all perhaps 3 or 4 hours (if you have those at all) in a day to really work your dog and be present all for him or her, next to work, childcare and so on. I really often wish that I had that easiness back that I had when I was younger and then I try to give myself some slack and credit there, that despite just having three times a day walking my dog, putting in the work, while doing so, we're doing quite well over all. There are things that could be better and things that could be a lot worse...
    There is always critique that the owners don't listen, do everything wrong ect. But sometimes is just hard, especially with the multitasking you have to do to really get things right while probably being nervous as heck and feeling like in a test situation yourself.
    It was really nice to see the work with the owners here, trying different ways to get them to get that connection. And I could watch Lakota work all day long 😍 She is really a beautiful dog!!!

    This should actually be be categorized as “Human Training” not dog training. Seems dos have such a natural inclination to be taught and follow through with what’s expected of them yet we dumb humans just don’t know how to train them. 😂 Lord knows I can’t get my Yorkie to stop barking no matter how hard I try.

    • @kairu_aname
      @kairu_aname 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Of course. Dogs naturally want to please their leaders, but the downside is that most people don't know how to speak on a dog's level.
      Unfortunately most people tend to have egocentrism and not understand that dogs are not humans

      I thought mine through the leash correction,
      Now she goes to bark for silly reasons like someone outside talking on their phone passing my house she makes a small bark and looks at me I firmly tell her to quite and she does.
      I hate barking yappy dogs yet i have 2 yorkies,
      🙈 But I'm lucky I shout they quite 👍🏻😂
