I would love to see videos where you check in on past clients to see how they're doing. Maybe doing "tune-ups" when clients backslide? (I know you probably do NOT have any spare time.) I'm a huge fan of brandon's tv show so it wasn't surprising that his book th-cam.com/users/postUgkxSw1k29V8f0aNwyGI6qRGYJc3E4Y4Eoxy is also excellent! With treats, my dog has learned most of the seven common commands (sit, stay, come, down, heel, off and no). Brandon's love for all animals is baked into every chapter of the book. If you have a puppy or an older dog, i would highly recommend reading every word of this book as it will be a source of pride for you and your dog.
This was an awesome videos as it also showed that 90% consistency is not enough, it has to be 100%. These owners were great, they obviously cared and had put the work in to help this dog. It was the last 10% of consistency they were missing. Tom's comment about letting the dog choose to be on the left or right looked like a lightbulb moment for them.
Sorry to say Kito, not every dogs are the same. I agree with your consistency comment, but some dog is harder to train. That's why we reach out to professional for help. Reason why I said this, because I have a husky that's acting very different from other dog, even my trainer said he is very hard to train (We have tried to train him almost 6 months before signing up for boarding classes). I would like to shoutout to any owner at least try to correct his behavior much better than abandon them in a shelter, or let them live with that kind of behavior and can never interact with anyone or any other dog.
Kito Perro wouldn't that be nice? I see many dog owners who are quite happy to spend plenty of $$$$$$$ to "board and Train" their dogs and think they come back "fixed". They fail to reinforce what was taught and the poor dog goes right back to their prior bad behavior. Here is a novel approach....... 3 days of dog board and train and then 7 days of owner board and train. Imagine the results then???

Fascinating to see that mix of confidence and fear in Bear. I'm so glad you and his owners shared this because of its rarity. It was kinda funny (as well as being such a huge step forward) to see him air scent you and give you the "That's a hard no from me!" It only serves to reiterate how you always say a dog doesn't have to love everyone, it just can't try to willy nilly chomp people. Once their confidence increases with handling Bear, the trio will do fantastic!
It’s great to see such progress for that beautiful dog. Coming from a shelter and not knowing his background, the owners obviously love him very much to get help for him. He will be a much happier soul when he understands his role in the family and can live his best life. Good job, everyone!

Love your videos, Thank you! My first shepherd I purchased while living in west germany in 1984, he was 7 months old when I got him. He had been previously owned by another canadian couple and omg, what a potential disaster! We knew immediately we needed professional help with this dog. We joined the schutzhund club in our area. This was amazing and life changing! The german head trainer was amazing, we went EVERY sunday, rain or shine. There was ALWAYS policemen and border patrol guards there with their canine partners, they were so supportive and generous with their expertise and experience. We were taught SO MUCH! Sadly this shepherd passed away in canada a few short years later, bloat in stomach, devastating to loose this magnificent brilliant animal who was the best friend and partner I've been honoured to love. He truly was one in a million. He had red papers from his german breeders, one of the trainers at the club looked at them and translated for us ( I didn't speak german) Red papers mean the parents AND grandparents have successfully competed, and won, obedience, no hip dysplasia, etc red papers mean quality bloodlines that can be followed. His name was "zero vom vortlicht" we called him blitz Sorry for rambling, I have had many more shepherds since then, all of them benefitted enormously from what we learned at that schutzhund club You are so good, and I like the education you give the owners, we are ALWAYS learning

I was sooo impressed at 2:53 when you asked for the leash back AFTER the dog tried to take your face off. Your calmness during the face of such naked aggression is inspiring as you work to save the dog. I've never worked with a trainer that would take a dog like that - figure out what is driving the behavior, and teach owners how to communicate expectations with their dog. Awesome and impressive as usual!

THANK YOU! Our adolescent rescue pup was super reactive to people, dogs, bikes, trains, vehicles just 8 weeks ago. With your help, consistent handling, learned leadership and the right tools, we can now calmly walk past pretty much everything and everyone with focus 95% of the time. Our relationship with him is great, he is 100% calmer, relaxed and happier in himself. These videos along with the No Bad Dogs podcast have changed our lives. Literally. I see so many dogs whose owners do not engage their mind, don’t socialize them (desensitize them to outside stimulus) and do not provide any sort of pack structure that helps with preventing insecurity that can lead unwanted behavior. This is what I have learned from Tom and other trainers and behavioralists I respect.

Bear reminds me of my current 7yo AustralianShepherd, but she's slightly less reactive. She wants to be good, but is still fearful of new people, cars, and dogs. She had never been trained or socialized until I got her in February. Working on desensitizing her to different situations. Tom, do you ever come to the Seattle area for classes? We could periodically use your teaching out here. (I'm hopeful!!!)

It's amazing how the little things matter. Ignoring them in early development can mushroom into serious problems, just like this. By then, most become overwhelmed and stuck. Knowledge can save this dog's life and provide a more relaxed existence. More great work Tom.

Your no nonsense and lack of treat training has really helped me train my dog better. She still has some control issues but,she's only 5 months but she's knee high and over 70 pounds
I am from the UK and I have been watching your videos for over a year now, especially more so prior to getting our cane Corso puppy. After educating myself using your videos, training the puppy has been an absolute breeze and he is the best well rounded ever! For a breed who are more boisterous, protective and who are more prone to aggression if no direction is given, I have a dog that is completely on the other end of the spectrum, he is submissive and obedient and that is all I wanted. He barks and growls if someone knocks on the door, or if I am yelling at someone he will back me up too, and that is all I want, because I know he will never make a decision FOR me and go that extra mile of biting anyone as I can stop the barking and growling at a click of a finger, and I have your training tips to thank for that. Nothing is more important than training and structure for your dog, and the bond that is created through this sort of training. In addition to this, because I trained from puppyhood, I never even had to use a prong, a slip lead or any type of training tool, just a simple collar and lead. It just proves any of these problems can be prevented with consistency from a young age.
It is so hard for me not to talk about other trainers and their methods. Tom, but really the methods, do more in a one hour session than many other trainers do in weeks or months with their projects. This stuff just works. I now feel that the long game some trainers play is borderline abusive. If you can get someone out of pain now why wait weeks and months. Same with dog behavior.
Great to see this dogs progress in being less reactive on the leash. The dog seemed much more at ease by the end of the video. I am listening in from Northwest Indiana.
Nice progress. My reactive rescue also got extremely pissed off when I attempted a prong collar correction. It’s nice to see work with a dog that isn’t so typical, if just for my own sanity. lol

Since doing these common sense techniques, my leash-reactive intact WGSL Coatie boy August (Auggie) has gone down in meltdowns over other dogs by 90%. From the Show Me State. I'm sure it's in the follow up training, but you've always said the tool is to let the dog know you are speaking to him. While watching, the dog seemed to know you were talking to him rather than the owner. If so, did that make the transition harder once you turned the remote to the owners? Great vid!!

I am from the UK and I have been watching your videos for over a year now, especially more so prior to getting our cane Corso puppy. After educating myself using your videos, training the puppy has been an absolute breeze and he is the best well rounded ever! For a breed who are more boisterous, protective and who are more prone to aggression if no direction is given, I have a dog that is completely on the other end of the spectrum, he is submissive and obedient and that is all I wanted. He barks and growls if someone knocks on the door, or if I am yelling at someone he will back me up too, and that is all I want, because I know he will never make a decision FOR me and go that extra mile of biting anyone as I can stop the barking and growling at a click of a finger, and I have your training tips to thank for that. Nothing is more important than training and structure for your dog, and the bond that is created through this sort of training. In addition to this, because I trained from puppyhood, I never even had to use a prong, a slip lead or any type of training tool, just a simple collar and lead. It just proves any of these problems can be prevented with consistency from a young age.
Cane Corsos are in no way aggressive like a German Shepard.

It is so hard for me not to talk about other trainers and their methods. Tom, but really the methods, do more in a one hour session than many other trainers do in weeks or months with their projects.
This stuff just works. I now feel that the long game some trainers play is borderline abusive. If you can get someone out of pain now why wait weeks and months. Same with dog behavior.

Great to see this dogs progress in being less reactive on the leash. The dog seemed much more at ease by the end of the video. I am listening in from Northwest Indiana.

Nice progress. My reactive rescue also got extremely pissed off when I attempted a prong collar correction. It’s nice to see work with a dog that isn’t so typical, if just for my own sanity. lol

Since doing these common sense techniques, my leash-reactive intact WGSL Coatie boy August (Auggie) has gone down in meltdowns over other dogs by 90%. I’m from Northern California, and we have a field bred (red) golden intact male. He’s a damn good dog and is sometimes just a little too smart for his own good.
From the Show Me State. I'm sure it's in the follow up training, but you've always said the tool is to let the dog know you are speaking to him. While watching, the dog seemed to know you were talking to him rather than the owner. If so, did that make the transition harder once you turned the remote to the owners? Great vid!!
