I love how he understands that every dog has their own personality and tells owners you can’t force that to change like most trainers would just to get money
Yes! Like I accept that my dog doesn't like other dogs invading her bubble. And she isn't a social butterfly. That is ok. Despite what some see as flaws, she is such a good dog who loves to play and please through work. She has such a unique personality and I love it.
I agree! People often forget that personalities play a part and it’s unfair to try and force your dog to be something they’re not. Having a dog that doesn’t particularly like strange dogs or strange people is okay! It’s how they react and deal with that distaste that matters, that’s where the training comes it and the handling ❤️
You have really opened my eyes on tools like the prong and e collar. Before I thought they harmed the dog cause I was uneducated. Love what you’re doing!
I used to be against E collars and prong collars, I've seen shock collars put on puppies for board and trains who came back to their owners a quivering mess, but you've completely changed my perspective on them because of your intelligent explanations and experience in using such equipment, I wish more trainers were as open minded and tuned into dogs as you, I live in England I wish I had you around with our first dog, long story! I work every day with dogs myself, my passion couldn't imagine my life any different. I'd love to pick your brain, and learn from you.
Tom's common sense is so refreshing! Why should the dog meet people if she doesn't care to? I I have know too many trainers who were willing to force every dog and handler to do a specific list of unnecessary things - like, The dog should never walk in front of you. Of course if you're walking two dogs on the street with no sidewalks, that would put you in the middle of the street.
I really appreciate the emphasis on the safety reasons around using a prong. It’s a really tough topic to get understanding from people who’ve not dealt with a dog that benefits from the help! My dog is anxious and people assume it’s overkill if they see one on him, but he gets excited when we put it on to go walk. The response from people when they see a prong or ecollar and assume what they’re used for or how, really creates anxiety for ME more than any of the above create it for my dog.
Same the only real reason at this point that my corso St. Bernard wears a print on walks is his fear of certain objects, like storm grates that cause him to bolt out to the side if he thinks I’ll make him cross it.
I can't believe I come across so many people who outright despise prong and e-collars, calling them cruel and inhumane. Thank you for educating dog owners and trainers!
I liked how you said that Maui isn’t ready to be more social at that moment but it’s not a never! I had a trainer tell me my dog will never not be reactive and it was pretty discouraging. This helps me to realize it can just take time and hard work, but it’s possible for them to progress! Thank you for these videos!
It is possible and yes, it can take time. I got an 18 month old rescue with terrible leash reactivity, I was told numerous times to get rid of her. Fast forward 4 years and she's a gem, I trust her around all dogs. Be patient, trust the process and remember your energy down the leash is a big part of the rehabilitation process. Good luck.
I adopted a rescue dog in December and Tom’s videos have been my go-to training reference. My dog is a Malinois mix who is leash reactive and these videos have saved us! I just got my first compliment from a stranger on our walk saying how well behaved she is. Never thought that would happen considering the place we were at with lunging, barking, pulling and snarling just a few months ago. No Bad Dog army 💕
I love how the handler said they will hold each other accountable on what they learned for Maui, being consistent and on the same page will help them be sooo successful!!
So much of the training is actually working on the people and how they learn to read and work with their dog. I love how you mentioned not all dogs have social personalities. You said it different, but not all dogs want to be touched by strangers and that is okay! I don't allow strangers to come up and touch my kids or myself so I'm not sure why people think it's okay to touch a persons dog.
This. I have a Saint Bernard who tends to be anxious in general and she is excited when we come home, but not unhinged. When new people come over she’s completely unhinged. I guess it is possible it’s not excitement but rather anxiety or stress
I love that they brought their daughter and had the training with real life kind of distractions. Makes it more realistic. And shows anyone can do this if you try
love how you described the difference between breeds reacting to the ecollar. so funny but so useful!! It helps us gauge our standards and expectations of our dogs' reactions. thanks as always.
I used to be so against e-collars. Now I can’t wait to train my next dog with one. Learning more about them and seeing people get great results with them in your videos, and in person, has really changed my perspective. Would be thrilled to get a Tom Davis dogtra!
What a beautiful good girl!!!! Edit: I'm glad you told her mom that it's fine that she's not interested in new people. It's her personality and probably her breed being so protective of her flock and such. Thanks for all the good information you always put out!
Yep. Real world training haha. That toddler running around was adorable. Great to see you make the distinction you can't completely alter personality:)
Great training aid. Excellent production value, when is Discovery picking you up?? Seriously, your teaching style really works, you bring it down where anyone can understand it. This saves dogs lives!
Love what you said about how training can look flashy with certain dogs and not so flashy with big “slower” dogs. Still the same training results, it just looks different for different dogs. It’s also so important for owners to understand that they can’t make their dog be something they’re not or like things they don’t.
Tom’s focus on training the dog in front of him is incredible. You can’t use the exact same methods on every dog and he’s so willing to switch things up to se the dog he’s working with up for success. It truly sets him apart from many other trainers.
I also love that you touched on superstitious association. That is one good reason that timing and voice pairing is SO important when remote collar conditioning 🙏
I never stop learning from your videos and watching them is something i look forward every week. Something always applies to my little stubborn husky 🥰
Hi Tom, I love watching your videos! They have helped me a lot with training my dog. I would love to be chosen for the e-collar. I have a year old Golden Retriever and I have been working on his reactivity on the leash and his recall. He gets distracted very easily when we are working on his recall. I think the e-collar would help us greatly with his recall. He has improved a lot with his reactivity on the leash thanks to your videos!
It was interesting to see you work with such a low energy. I've got a pretty calm dog at home. I just have to stay enthusiastic and keep the session short.
I enjoyed this one! Happy that Tom pointed out the panting and I can now use that towards finding cues for when my dog may react! Exceptional as always.
I absolutely love your ‘no bad dog’ belief and mission. It is so true! It’s mostly always about training (or retraining) the owners. Great stuff Tom. Love your work.
I love how honest you are and realistic! I don’t know why some people just think that dogs have to love everyone and always wanna be pet by everyone! The analogy you used by the example of you can’t make a shy person change their personality. I used to feel really bad when my shepherd had no interest in meeting new people And doesn’t like to be pet by strangers. She won’t even take treats by anyone and she doesn’t know.
This is my shepherd too. :/ someone touched her back as we walked by once, and I kindly told them to never touch a dog like that again😅 easily could be bitten by a dog that way
So happy for this family getting the proper instruction and tools to help their big fur baby and family. I would LOVE to have a private session with Tom!
Amazing how quickly this dog got the concept of "place". I won't give up--my bratty Boxer, Thunder, has been re-homed twice (families divorced or moving out of state) I don't think he had much training and probably wasn't walked..just lived in the back yard. I'm determined to get him on track. Thanks for all your help.
This gives me hope for my St. Bernard/ Mastiff mix- haven't been able to take him anywhere for awhile since we were in a car accident. This helps a lot!
I just want to thank you, for creating this amazing content. I have a 2 years old Saint Bernard dog and he wasn't very eager to learn. Three different trainers told me that there is no point of trying to teach him anything, because he 's too lazy. But I've watched most of your videos, introduced your methods and tips to his training and thanks to that I got to another level with his obedience. It turned out that he is not lazy at all I just didn't know how to handle him :) Greetings from Finland!
Shared this video with my daughter to watch for good tips to use with my grandfur Juno, who is a Rottweiler, that has reaction issues. Great info for her to incorporate into her training! Thanks for sharing your expertise with us!
I am always so impressed by Tom and his ability to really read the dog! I know the owner really wanted Maui to be able to be around strangers, but Tom knew that’s not really what Maui wanted… and that’s ok. ❤️❤️❤️ Every dog is truly unique and you have to be able to accept that. So amazing as always!
I cannot stop watching these. I'm struggling with my Australian Cattle Dog some and I'm learning so much. The way he breaks things down makes things so relatable.
You're the best; I've never met a dog trainer who takes the time and helps dog owners understand why problems are occurring and how to fix them but also provide the dogs prospective as well. It is truly amazing that you also show square one training the owners as well as teaching owners why, how, and when you use the training equipment. I have learned a lot since I came across your channel. I have always wanted to become a dog trainer just because most trainers don't want to take the time to understand dogs' behavior and never try to help save dogs from being euthanized because they're "aggressive" when in not all but the majority of cases are dogs who are unsure or just need to have structure. I have a Siberian Husky who can be very hard-headed at times off leash, but we continue to work on it! Thankful for your channel; it definitely helps. Keep up the great work, you all!
I love that you explained the prong collar more. It is a tough topic because many people misuse it. I am thankful for your videos combating the misinformation and showing people how to properly use a prong collar
Wow,these owners came to the right place! To see how frazzled (both human & dog) and frustrated they were, to calm and relaxed and confident relief - also for both humans and dog, is such a blessing. Great work! Especially with little kids around the house, and dogs can become very protective, it is great they have the tools now to hopefully keep from escalating. Beautiful Saint! Best wishes and keep up the good work.
We recently had some guff online from a random person from another city claiming to be a pet trainer about our use of a prong with our German Shepherd. As an owner, it feels irresponsible to not use whatever tool is most effective for any specific dog. So good on these owners for sticking to what worked best for their dog instead of getting guilted into using something that could have led to a dangerous situation for both them and the dog.
i love how you explained that some things are just genetic and breed characteristics and you can’t change completely. i’m sure they appreciate the honesty!
Discovering this channel has been so helpful. I try using all these tips on my reactive german shepherd who has a lot of anxiety and she is slowly making progress, I'm trying to save up some money for the dogtra collar in hopes of being able to let her outside with no leash and not worry of her going after the neighbor. I have a long way to go with her but watching all these videos helps so much.
I felt so validated when you said “ignore the dog” because I found out that’s what worked best for my pups through A LOT of trial and error. Still hard to get people to respect that boundary because they think they’re “good with animals” and “all dogs love them” but I’m also getting really good at advocating firmly for them no matter what people say or think.
I’m so happy to see a reactivity video in a big guardian type dog!! This is exactly what my girl struggles with and it feels like the techniques that work for most shepherd will not work for her. This made me really happy and hopeful!!
I have a European Doberman and watching your channel has been such a huge help! Wish I can have the opportunity to bring my dog to you one day to train.
Tom, you are incredible and I love how you are with every individual dog and owner. I am from England and I want a prong collar. I believe in you and everything you say. You are by far the best trainer I have ever come across 💙❤️🙏😘
I've been watching your videos non-stop and you've helped me realize so much about what I was doing wrong with training my dogs. My two Aussies are becoming VERY well-rounded dogs due to my new training knowledge from your videos. Thank you!
Thank you for educating us about prong collars. I used to think they were cruel but now that I’m learning more about them and their effectiveness, I can see how great of a tool they can be.
The discussion on personalities was so interesting! It seems obvious, but I hadn’t thought about it in the way you guys discussed it (shy/introvert vs. extrovert).
Congrats to Addilynn Hope! You won the Tom Davis 280c remote collar, send us a DM on IG to claim! @nobadogs
❤
I could use one of them collars it would be a game changer you amazing trainer Tom
I love how he understands that every dog has their own personality and tells owners you can’t force that to change like most trainers would just to get money
Thanks so much, Lisa!
Completely agree 💯!
And he doesnt pretend to be an omnipotente magician with all dogs!
Yes! Like I accept that my dog doesn't like other dogs invading her bubble. And she isn't a social butterfly. That is ok. Despite what some see as flaws, she is such a good dog who loves to play and please through work. She has such a unique personality and I love it.

Having a dog that doesn’t particularly like strange dogs or strange people is okay! It’s how they react and deal with that distaste that matters, that’s where the training comes it and the handling ❤️
I feel you Maui. Sometimes I don’t want to interact with new people either.
Same here
❤ 2.
Get rid of the new, and I’m with you. 😮
He is the only trainer online that makes me feel like if my dog has issues it doesn’t mean I’ve been a bad dog parent
this !!!
Yees
SAME!!!
We all learning ❤
You have really opened my eyes on tools like the prong and e collar. Before I thought they harmed the dog cause I was uneducated. Love what you’re doing!
Love that expectations were clearly set around her interest in meeting new people.
Thanks for the feedback, Becky!

Just trying to help!

What a great example of transforming a dog for family living…enriching everyone’s life simultaneously. Love how the e collar has in-home application.
That's just disappointing to hear that trainers would turn them away just because of the prongs! I'm so glad they got the help they needed!
I love that they brought their daughter and had the training with real life kind of distractions. Makes it more realistic. And shows anyone can do this if you try
This guy's awesome. Hands down a beautiful soul. I love seeing people live out and master their calling!
Glad they were able to get in touch before someone potentially got hurt!
Yes!
love how you described the difference between breeds reacting to the ecollar. so funny but so useful!! It helps us gauge our standards and expectations of our dogs' reactions. thanks as always.
… Tom’s tone of voice. ☺️♥️🐶
7:41 Doggo politely waits for permission to go through gate.
7:42 Kiddo pushes past doggo to barge outside with Mama in hot pursuit 😂
Love the reminder that they have their own personalities that deserve to be honored and respected ❤
I used to be so against e-collars. Now I can’t wait to train my next dog with one. Learning more about them and seeing people get great results with them in your videos, and in person, has really changed my perspective. Would be thrilled to get a Tom Davis dogtra!
He’s simply the best. And how cute is Maui? Such a big sweetheart.
Tom is so good training people and explaining dogs. I love how much he gives.
Really nice to learn new things AGAIN !!
Love joining the No Bad Dogs Army!
I really like seeing Tom handle all the dogs. Gives me hope for my large GSD.
What a gentle Giant! Absolutely gorgeous 😍🐶. Great work, Tom! As always, great job 👏🏻
Always love watching the dog progress in their program.
Tom. I grew up with 5 St.Bernards! Not all at once..Love them dearly!!💕
What a beautiful good girl!!!!
Edit: I'm glad you told her mom that it's fine that she's not interested in new people. It's her personality and probably her breed being so protective of her flock and such. Thanks for all the good information you always put out!
I love the No Bad Dog mentality. And the way you show that E-collar isn’t evil and a great tool when used correctly!
Yep. Real world training haha. That toddler running around was adorable. Great to see you make the distinction you can't completely alter personality:)
I definitely like seeing the work being done with bigger dogs. These videos always inspire me with my guys at home.
Thanks, Larry!
Loved that the expectation of future new encounters was addressed clearly.
Great video 💪 that intro is dope man , very in-depth too 🙏🏻
Glad you liked it!
Tom’s focus on training the dog in front of him is incredible. You can’t use the exact same methods on every dog and he’s so willing to switch things up to se the dog he’s working with up for success. It truly sets him apart from many other trainers.
LOVE the receptiveness of the owners! And such a beautiful dog. I wish them all the best! Great job per usual, Tom!
I also love that you touched on superstitious association. That is one good reason that timing and voice pairing is SO important when remote collar conditioning 🙏
I never stop learning from your videos and watching them is something i look forward every week. Something always applies to my little stubborn husky 🥰
LOVE THIS GUY!!!! He’s really good with dogs, I known 5 dog training academy’s and countless trainers. This guy is definitely above everyone.
MAKE SURE YOU GUYS FOLLOW US ON INSTGRAM! @NOBADOGS @TOMDAVIS
Hi Tom, I love watching your videos! They have helped me a lot with training my dog. I would love to be chosen for the e-collar. I have been on a total Tom Davis binge and I have yet to be disappointed in any of his advice.
I love how Tom takes the time to learn each dogs personality and figure out a plan For that specific dog
It was interesting to see you work with such a low energy. I've got a pretty calm dog at home. I just have to stay enthusiastic and keep the session short.
Loved this video owner was so involved asked the questions I would like to ask and the baby as a distraction was fab
I enjoyed this one! Happy that Tom pointed out the panting and I can now use that towards finding cues for when my dog may react! Exceptional as always.
Thanks so much, Raven!
Love how honest he is with people and their dogs. Can’t say enough good things about this trainer.
I absolutely love your ‘no bad dog’ belief and mission. It is so true! It’s mostly always about training (or retraining) the owners. Great stuff Tom. Love your work.

I don't think he had much training and probably wasn't walked..just lived in the back yard. I'm determined to get him on track. Thanks for all your help.
youre saving my life w these videos. my girl has improved so much thanks to you
So true about the ecollar! My 165 lb newf is not “sharp” like other dogs, now that you explained it with the Bernard I get it!
This gives me hope for my St. Bernard/ Mastiff mix- haven't been able to take him anywhere for awhile since we were in a car accident. This helps a lot!
So happy this give you hope!
This was so helpful to me. I have a saint bernard too and struggle with some of these same issues. I'll be working on him with these things now!
I just want to thank you, for creating this amazing content. I have a 2 years old Saint Bernard dog and he wasn't very eager to learn. Great video. So awesome seeing Tom handel a Sint Bernard
Love them so much!
Love how you educate the humans on how to handle their dogs and make them understand that every dog breed is different.
Your range of knowledge continually amazes me.
You and Will Atherton are life savers 😀👍 keep sharing your knowledge for great companion dogs
Shared this video with my daughter to watch for good tips to use with my grandfur Juno, who is a Rottweiler, that has reaction issues. Great info for her to incorporate into her training! Thanks for sharing your expertise with us!
Grandfur, love that!
Great job & awesome little family! Proud of everyone
Love how he works so well with people, not just dogs. Straightforward and informative. Love it ❤
I don’t have a dog but I enjoy these videos Tom has a way with people and dogs that you don’t see everyday .
Nice work Tom, I really appreciate your videos. I feel like every video I watch of yours I get a clearer understanding of how dogs learn.
I am always so impressed by Tom and his ability to really read the dog! I know the owner really wanted Maui to be able to be around strangers, but Tom knew that’s not really what Maui wanted… and that’s ok. ❤️❤️❤️
Every dog is truly unique and you have to be able to accept that. So amazing as always!
It's great to see all the different breeds that you have successwith, along with their handlers.
I love how he determines the dog-a -nalitiy (personality) of the dog and realizes there are so many differences among them
i am loving learning how different tools can be used to help with different behaviours
I cannot stop watching these. I'm struggling with my Australian Cattle Dog some and I'm learning so much. The way he breaks things down makes things so relatable.
I love how receptive the owners are.

You are the only one who can help and save Goliath. You are a miracle to me! Thank you for always sharing your wisdom.
Hands down does the best job describing each step and what he is see with each dog
Amazing understanding of dog behavior.
You really helped this family and I hope they appreciate the progress you were able to make and they keep it up.
I have a European Doberman and watching your channel has been such a huge help! Wish I can have the opportunity to bring my dog to you one day to train.
7:40 Best part of the video. Teaching the dog to wait at the threshold, but the toddler charges right through.
She's so big. I like how you explained about the "flashyness" of an e collar working.
And the personality part
Tom, you are incredible and I love how you are with every individual dog and owner. I am from England and I want a prong collar. I believe in you and everything you say. You are by far the best trainer I have ever come across 💙❤️🙏😘
So fun to watch this dog. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Loved how simple you made everything. Good refresher as my dog has been showing regression and anxious behavior.
I've been watching your videos non-stop and you've helped me realize so much about what I was doing wrong with training my dogs. My two Aussies are becoming VERY well-rounded dogs due to my new training knowledge from your videos. Thank you!
I’ve been binging, too, and I don’t even have a dog! I feel more prepared for when I eventually do though.
i love that you are promoting balanced training and addressing peoples concerns in a helpful way!
Thank you for educating us about prong collars. I used to think they were cruel but now that I’m learning more about them and their effectiveness, I can see how great of a tool they can be.
The discussion on personalities was so interesting! It seems obvious, but I hadn’t thought about it in the way you guys discussed it (shy/introvert vs. extrovert).
