Well, that narrows things down considerably.

It might be British and Irish pork.

aka Reconstituted meat - aka MRM (Machine Reclaimed Meat) where they get the sinew, fat, marrow of unused pork and remake it into a "rib". Hence why it is "cheap".
In the US they go further and make steaks out of the method and use meat glue to stick it together, meat glue (transglutaminase) is banned in most European countries for a reason, so if you don't have your fake steaks well done you are chewing on that meat glue that can do bad things to your stomach if not cooked through thoroughly.
So glad we are blocking shady American food practices from our shelves, especially Chlorine washed chickens.

When i was a lad (about 50 years ago) the local butcher practically gave pork ribs away....i was looking at the price in my local Asda the other day..... horrendous....used to be a very cheap meal now it's beyond alot of family budgets. Buy these pit your own barbecue sauce on them

They were a cheap meal when people just use to boil them,as they tasted like nothing, but once people learned how to really cook them, the demand went up,and so did the price.

Next time you visit Lidl, can I recommend the aromatic crispy half duck with pancakes and what I thought was plum sauce (the label on the packet says it’s hoisin!) It’s about £6.49 and I can’t stop eating it: like an addiction. You find it in its own box in the meat section. It’s as good as my local take-away. I cook it for 30 minutes 200C and put the sauce and pancakes in the microwave for 1 minute.

No no no. I bought a pack. The wife says where’s the spring onions. I will get some at the weekend. Forgets so I will get some next time. By the time she does.
She then says oh there out of date and throws them in the BIN 😡

I've never had any luck with precooked ribs, they all tasted weird. Unless you're in a big hurry, good ribs are really easy to make in the oven. Biggest hassle is cleaning up the roasting pan afterwards.
I take a rack, smear with mustard (yellow or Dijon, I probably wouldn't use Coleman's) and sprinkle well with BBQ steak/rib seasoning mix, and put in a baking pan and cover with foil, and throw them in the oven for a couple hours. After a couple hours I uncover and increase the heat to 350 to cook of the excess liquid and brown them up, or move to the gas grille to brown them up, then sauce and cook a bit more to caramelize the sauce a bit. Friends agree they are better than most of the ribs served up at roadhouse restaurants or even at the various ribfests around here.

Oven dries these up so they are like an old boot.
Cut bag in half and microwave, all moisture is kept in and taste lovely.

I agree, this type of rib is much better microwaved. I just cut a couple of small slits in the top of the bag to let the steam out. They cook in their own juices and stay moist.

    • @Chief81
      @Chief81 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

Nah, oven will crisp them up a bit which is how they’re supposed to be. Not a chance these will taste better in a MW.

    • @jimm.3845
      @jimm.3845 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

You're right about the oven drying them out so try this ; - cook in the oven but covered so they can steam. I cut the rack in half to make 'em fit, place on a baking tray and cover with an upturned enamel pie dish. Uncover for the last 5 mins when you put the sauce on. Meat falls off the bone, sauce starts to dry and caramelize in the open oven. Best of both worlds.

Thanks again.i had noticed them, pondered. Plants,or most of them are coming along great.- love the garden side of things. You probably feeling it because you need more protein. A lot of your longer life energy is from protein and complex carbs are best, like sweet potatoes etc. I obviously don’t practice it much but I learned from my niece who is a personal trainer and has done her nutrition qualification too. You need at least 5/6 ounces of protein four times ,five times a day, plus you need a certain amount of carbohydrates. If still hungry,up the protein. It will sustain you more. Secret tip. Use more eggs. Lots of longer energy and feeling more satisfied and great metabolic boost

    Good Morning Gareth,
Nice Review. I have had those ribs and others that come with their sauce sachet. I find buying Ribs by themselves and making my own Sauce with the help of TH-cam a lot better and more satisfying. It is a bit messy and takes longer but if you have loads of Cold Beer it Helps a Lot.😁. Also i suggest if you haven't one already get a Silicone Brush for Basting the meat, it's the best ever for spreading sauce and oils . As i am now in my mid 60's i feel i am entitled to get a Adult Bib to keep me clean when i am trying to eat while Drunk and as I live alone i only use the washing machine once a Year. There are now Novelty Bibs on line with funny pictures and a pocket to catch all the good bits that Drop. So i will invest . Happy Days,

In a pan on the stove, mix the sauce with butter, sugar, marmalade or jam, honey and slowly bring to a boil then turn off. For the last 10 mins remove the foil, place ribs on a rack and broil. Then cut, mix into the sauce.

I heard you say that you want to go on a low carb lifestyle, two years ago I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, my blood sugar levels were out of control and through the roof, I was put on meds but I also went low card, plenty of protein, leafy vegetables, cauliflower, broccoli, I can have potatoes once I cook them then let them go cold, once reheated from cold the card count is drastically reduced, I got my blood sugar under control and I'm off the diabetic meds, I'm controlling my diabetes by diet and exercise, just be careful of a thing called Keto Flu, when you go low carb your body craves the sugars that's in carbs and you feel like crap for a while as your body adjusts.

I buy at least one rack of ribs per week from Lidl. I think they are good value compared to my local rib shop. I rarely use the sauce that's included, because I'm not really into all the different BBQ flavours. So I add my own anyway, usually a hot sauce, Hoisin or Sweet Chilli.
I recently bought some boneless beef short ribs from Lidl that came with Bourbon sauce and they were pukka.
I've done the rib rack in both the oven and the microwave. The microwave is obviously quicker, but they also come out a bit more juicy and just fall off of the bone.
Going back to Richmond sausages ? I find them very unappealing 😝. I now go for Lidl Bratwurst sausages. They are at least 80 - 90 % pork, ( or chicken ), and one bratty is good enough for a breakie. And if course you can just cook a couple, pile on some tomato sauce and sprinkle some curry powder and you've got a nice Currywurst.
It's all down to what you like and how you can change up an item to match your taste buds.
I confess that when I see British Pork sausages on offer ? I buy them, cook them off and use them as dog snacks 👍.

Had Lidl ribs a few times, tbf they taste pretty good. Not much meat on them though & I think they should be a cheaper price!

Lidl are very hit and miss still, I've found some delicious food in there and some disgusting, in Tesco, Sainsbury's etc I like almost everything I buy, more consistent.
These reviews are really useful before buying things in Lidl, particularly the more expensive things....

The pile of bones left after you eat them is a giveaway, works out more expensive than fillet steak with lots of fat and gristle. The sauce is a good disguise.

Hi Gareth, shame the sauce has let the ribs down, Jack Daniels BBQ sauce is nice, I think Steak sauce would go well with those ribs. Have a great weekend Take care

I knew a guy who, when he was drunk, would sometimes drink Jack Daniels sauce as if it was real whiskey. He would then suffer from the most terrible hangovers. Imagine the dehydration quotient!

When I cook ribs - scrape away all of the factory fat globules, there's enough carbs there already. After the first 25 mins cooking, cut through the ribs THEN spread the coating, getting it down and around all the cuts before the last 5 mins cooking. Result is a fuller flavour hit.

Should have poured some BBQ sauce over it. Glad the meat was tender. You are struggling to give up things I don’t like anyway, I don’t like bread or pasta. I do like baked potatoes and chips but don’t eat them very often.😊

😂 I have been on that diet, no pasta, bread, potatoes etc. Beans are no good . I was on meat and tin tomatoes, lost a stone in a month. But its so boring. I think I was on 50g of carbs a day. Having a pizza atm and its great. As for the ribs, best to go to a butcher and get them and as you say put your own sauce on them. Keep up the good work. Respect
