OMG! HOW SAD. For me Zimmerman School screams late 1950s and early 1960s. I grew up on Vosburg St. Flint. On Saturday mornings kids could go up to the gym and watch black and white movies like our gang, cartoons and sometimes adventure movies...like Treasure Island...etc I used to attend tot lot at Zimmerman. Eisenhower was president. John Kennedy was running for president the first time I remember seeing political posters in the window of the building just east of zimmerman school. They used to have ice cream socials there too. It was an awesome place to grow up in the 1950's there. God fearing community-minded people. Life was good. It totally breaks my heart to see what's happened to that City.
I went to Zimmerman. It had 2 gymnasiums. The upper one was newer and the older one was on the main floor. Off the old gym was the bandroom. Stairs led from the bandroom to the stage in the newer gym. It hurts seeing it look like this. I finished 9th grade spring of 1969.
I think it's really messed up and suck how they just let those buildings go to waste like that, and leave everything behind including books, tables and chairs when they decide to close the school down!! but charge the students in the remaining open schools for lost or stolen books!
Went to school there 1960-1963. I was in an algebra class on the second floor when President Kennedy was assassinated. Tragic to see what became of this school and the rest of my hometown.
Why do we go on like this letting Flint Play us like This. That building is full of memorabilia their are people who truly cheerish Flint that know all the back streets from bristol rd, m15, Dodge rd, too linden rd Clio rd, Dort Genesee rd, Franklin st, belle ave, whyoming, lewis rd to lieth st, stuart ave, ((StJohns/jamesPcole)) peison rd, carpenter rd, Coldwater rd, dupont Pasadena, Dayton, Everyone knows Everyone.
