This building opened in the autumn of 1971. I was a member of its Class of 1972, the “new” building’s first graduating seniors. We were so proud of this building; while 50 years have passed, seeing this video tugs at my heart strings.

Although I graduated from the old Northern, I worked on musical productions (plays) here at the "new" Northern. Along with Rick, my best friend, we had great times (at both the old and the new). Thank goodness no one can take away our memories.

I went there in 1988. Did a crazy amount of skipping. We used to jump on the school bus to Central and then just walk back to Northern for the day. Go through downtown my golf course and all that hanging out having fun. Sometimes I pull in the parking lot never leave the parking lot never go into the school we just hang out in cars all day.

At @11:26 that's a mural I painted for my senior year in 2011! Idk why all that weird stuff is in there. But it was originally a Graphics Art Class. My teacher at the time asked me to paint that Mural for a after school program called Skills USA. What I can remember, it was to help students and teach them about Adobe Photoshop and printing. I wish I could provide more details but I forgot. You don't know how long it's been for me to find any type of footage, photo anything to see my Mural again. This almost brought a tear to my eye. Though it's a brief shot but it still made me happy to see it untouched and still there. I just feel bad that I didn't finished it, but I had little time to do anything. 🥲

As painful as it is to see that a lot of good materials weren't appropriated to the other schools and left for rubbish, it doesn't surprise me. As a resident for 8 years now I can firmly say this town continues to have poor leadership year after year. Super sad to see such waste. Factory 2 could've used a lot of what was left in terms of supplies.

Flint could have best possible mayor and city council, and it would still struggle.
Same for Gary, Indiana, or Youngstown, Ohio. When thousands of jobs leave a place in one go, it's impossible for all those people and their families to stick around.

That's New Northern not the original that opened in 1928.
Me and my friends were first class to attend that brand new school in the fall of 1971. Was bussed over to the realistic driving range to drive new GM cars donated to the driver's training course at Southwestern HS.
Bob Seger used to actually play the Flint Mikatam Lounge back in those days, we'd drive around the Club as teens when he was playing, we could hear loud rock music coming from the Lounge with cars jam packed all around the building, but we were too young to go in.
The biggest name to play the Mikatam was Bob Seger, he played the Club 13 times before he got big, then suddenly, you couldn't even get tickets to his concerts. Saw him twice over the years though in Calif and Vegas. That was the good old days in Flint when everyone had a good paying job in the "Shops" and if not making Chevy trucks "we were making Thunderbirds"
and workin' on our night moves, trying to lose those awkward teenage blues,
workin' on our night moves, in the summertime...
    ...the sweet summertime summertime.
    In Flint Michigan.

This was a state of art high school opening these doors in 1971 after being in a much older building from 1923. Built to accommodate a Flint with many more residents than now. Possibly at it’s peak ? All the bottled water found on site is probably use by homeless folks to drink bath use the facility heck with microwave you could cook be out of the elements. Hell lots and lots people down on their luck . Look around doesn’t take much to see depression and to see why. Especially if you’ve know how great a place it was to grow up,for many years. Oh yeah I was class of 75.

It is sad to see our alma mater in such disrepair or abandoned. We have fixed in our memories what they looked like when we attentended. The buildings of the school system that I graduated from were demolished and built new moee than a decade ago. Most of the school buildings of my firmer district are are closed, demolished or abandoned. The only remsing and currently used building is the 'new' (1960) high school used as the elementary. One building was the subject of an urban explorer's episode. Yes, sad to see the changes, decay, and vandalism. Part of life.

If we could get people to volunteer for a clean up and know how to fix all the walls Flint could turn this school into lower income housing apartments.
