Emma I've been watching you for 6-7 years now ever since i found your channel. I love your content and you help me figure out if i want to watch something or if it's gonna be too much. And i consume almost everything horror. I hope your condition gets better. Good on you for not trying to hide it or forgo filming while you're dealing with it.
As someone who has survived SA, I feel for the woman in Contracted and I have body horror nightmares. I don't think I can watch the film but I appreciate what it's doing. Never heard of it until this video.
Emma!!! Are we sure this thing you have on your skin is not viral? I just finished your video, and I’m not feeling good. Can this be transmitted via screen? 😅
Thanks for swimming through the viscera Emma. This iceberg definitely takes the widest view of Body Horror that one could take. It becomes a kind of spreading genre, like Folk Horror, that keeps swallowing up other categories. I wouldn't include werewolf movies, for instance. Likewise Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I make a distinction between the older Deformity Horror of Phantom of the Opera or the House of Wax, or Eyes without a Face, or Freaks, and the more recent designation of Body Horror. I tend to see Body Horror more as being more about what is inside the body coming out. And the boundary between the inside and the outside. But these things are 'enjoyable' to discuss. Obviously a film can be multiple genres, which is something that the 'That's not horror!' folks don't seem to get. I want to see your version of this list someday Emma! You have my vote. Meanwhile thank you so much for all your work.
Emma 😂 You retaining your vocal inflection while not being able to make any facial expressions makes this particularly funny. “😐 Well done! You really impressed me! 😐”
You gave an excellent explanation of the hypnotic movie Taxidermia. Most other youtubers just focus on how gross certain scenes are and leave out the historical aspects. I look forward to seeing part 3.
Body horror is my favorite sub genre and I am so happy you've made two videos to go in depth of the iceberg and not rushing through it - thank you so much! I found a few new to me movies to add to my to-watch-list this x-mas (The Stuff and Taxidermia on top of it, will check Frankenstein''s Army and ABCs... Zygote as well). ps. the main character in Tokyo Gore Police - did she play in Audition as well?? ps 2.: applause to make up artist who made your transformation. Delicious! ;-)
Just wanted to say that I just discovered your channel yesterday and HAD to leave a subscription for your effort in this series hahaha. Would love to see more horror icebergs!
Enjoy the content. From Beyond involved personal body mutation, the growth of the pineal gland, tentacle coming out of his forehead etc, mutilation/transformation of a living body, where as Re-Animator was basically a zombie movie, I'm assuming that's why one was on the list and the other was not though there's a good argument for Re-Animator being 'body horror' it doesn't strictly fit the description.
I love seeing so much appreciation for Tokyo Gore Police!! Really it's probably the most insane body horror film you could ever watch, I know the clip you were able to show doesn't do it justice. It's not the most gory or disgusting, it's just absolutely bonkers. Also if you like the Tetsuo films, I recommend the Japanese film Meatball Machine. Much heavier on the blood though.
@@spookyastronautsOh, also, a great body horror manga I'd recommend is Parasyte, or the anime called Parasyte The Maxim. It's about, you guessed it, alien parasites that are dropped onto earth to take over human hosts. There IS a live-action film where the effects are re-created with CGI, but it kind of looks goofy.
Really loved seeing Afflicted on the list, my dad actually had recommended it to me years ago, and he wasn't even a horror fan. Clown is so damn good and under appreciated.
I haven’t watched very much body horror but one theme I notice about a lot of these movies is that they’re almost all symbolism for something else like depression loss corrupt government etc. and I like that! This series has made me a lot more interested in body horror as a genre. I watched the substance about a month ago and loved that movie!
I'm a little surprised to see that Repo! The Genetic Opera isn't on the list somewhere... then again maybe other people may not consider it body horror
Such a great video thanks for your hard work. This has to be my favorite sub genre, and you’ve provided new films for me to search out. Love the make fx, nice touch well done. It made me feel itchy, and wanting to grab the TCP for you. 😂
Been waiting for part 2…I need the distraction. I had to put my beautiful dog down 3 days ago suddenly. And just after putting my beloved Jack Russell down 4 months ago. I’m beyond devastated and don’t know how to go on. Thank you for the distraction.
Love the iceberg video's! Who are we kidding, I love all your video's! The commitment to detail even getting infected for the sake of good body horror movies. Please go get that checked out! 😆
absolutely love the subject from vhs94!! almost saw my friends dad faint trying to watch it with us when i put it on one movie night- sorry steve!! but i loved the cyborgs so much. anything about experiments reclaiming their right to exist always gets me in the heart. also greatly enjoyed getting to see clips from and analysis of taxidermia too, have always been interested in it, but i know i have to keep it blacklisted for p00p content- my one and only Hard No in movies. so excited for part 3!!
Amazing! Great to see some love for Taxidermia, that film is a fun one that I hope more people check out. If you include those Tetsuo sequels there's 11 films here I haven't seen yet (though most don't look that appealing 😆) so thank you for suffering through them for me! The 'H' pronunciation lead me to look up its origins and man, there's some crazy warring religious sect story to go along with it. Didn't think that'd be the outcome of me watching this video but here we are!
Never ever would I have guessed that I have seen movies from further down this iceberg XD but here we are haha Furthermore, I have taken note from your videos to watch some of the movies mentioned. I think I can do it Maybe?
I’m SO happy Antiviral was mentioned because it’s one of my favorite body horrors/films in general & it’s criminally underrated for being a Baby Cronenberg film😂 I recently rewatched it for the first time in years & it’s scary that the message feels more relevant and rooted in reality as time goes on, especially the themes of celebrity exploitation and obsessive fans. Also, it’s funny realizing how many horror movies feature parasites as a public health professional since parasites in general aren’t even what I fear the most. Variant prion diseases (like Mad Cow for humans) and the rabies virus are WAY scarier in my opinion.
youtube has become actively hostile towards its creators. thank you for putting so much love and effort into these videos. it's amazingly impressive, fun, and appreciated!!
Another great list! Some months ago, my mother and youngest sister (early 20s) visited me, and for some reason, Mom wanted to watch Poultrygeist. We all had fun; my mother laughed through most of the gore effects, though my sister was quick to point out she had never seen so many boobs in a movie before. The magic of Troma.
Appreciate your descriptions, there's so many horror films out there I don't have time to try all of them. To me the scary part of body horror is in odor/filth, then pain/trauma, with appearance at the bottom, because I really don't see anything as deformed anymore. Like what's going on on your face (hopefully not debilitating) can be seen as kind of decorative or even a fashion --in case you can't get rid of it, just saying.
I have never heard of The Bay (2012) and i am so shook and horrified right now because i live off the bay and have been swimming in it since i was a child 😭
I am a die hard fan of body horror and Daddy Cronenberg lol but somehow there's still new The Stuff (get it) to discover! Taxidermia, The Eyes Of My Mother, and in general more surrealistic approaches really caught my attention!
@mememefinally The first comment I read said something about her face looking better or worse so I assumed I missed a video and she had an infection. Nope I'm not kidding you I was that gullible. Guess I got real life s*** on my mind
Nice to see Poultrygeist made the list. I have a friend who was in the film. Lotsa zombie flicks here. I think all zombie flicks should qualify on this berg in one form or another.
EMMA! I AM IN BRAIN DAMAGE! LOL. I was a teenager and I am in the club called Hell scene, dancing with friends. LOL. My unpaid extra days in the movie business!!!
How are Swamp Thing, Jekyll and Hyde and Antlers on the iceberg and not fucking Suspiria? That dance scene made me so fucking nauseous. I’m not arguing it should be more than a few from the top, but it is certainly worse than a bunch of the ones listed in Part 1…
Tetsuo iron man is brilliant. Part two is also very good apparently part three has music from Trent Reznor in it but that film is very difficult to get on Blu-ray.
I respect your willingness to make videos even when fighting an infection. You're pulling off the gauze and dressings tho! You look like a final girl ❤
Afflicted was a fun movie. I indiscriminately watch horror movies on stream services and if they dont grab me in 10 minutes I hard pass them without 2nd thought. Afflicted made it, and I had no idea about what was happening to him until they basically outright showed it. That film did a good job downplaying what the affliction was if you weren't already clued into it.
