    Box pot = GENIUS! Love the minimalist setup. A steamer rack and pizza stone options would truly make it a well rounded cooking system. As well as a range of size options like you offer for the billy pots (which i also love). Cant wait for the final version!!!

    Love your motorcycle camping adventures. I did a few duel sport rides in Colorado a few years ago. Some of the most fun riding i have ever done. Stayed in Lake City. Love to do it again but think the mountains got higher the rocks got bigger and the streams got deeper. Add 34 years to my age has nothing to do with it. Well might! Hang in there Steve. Keep doing what you love doing! Love watching through your lens.

    I think muck cake is an instant classic but in actuality what you made was a bread pudding which is a truly delicious treat. By the time you got it finished cooking I wanted to climb through the screen and have a few bites. I live in Utah myself, north of Salt Lake City and my family went camping often in the Uintas. and yet another improvement to the Nano cooking system...
    the box pot looks like fun.
    here's another flycasting tip. Use a 1-2-3-4 count when you cast. Only 2 and 4 involve the angle of the wrist. 1 and 3 are horizontal pistonlike movements of the forearm. 1 and 3 help straighten the tailing leader to avoid wind knots. Best to practice on a lawn with only a snip of yarn instead of a fly.
    Thanks for the bringing the Outside inside!

    • @fireboxstove
      @fireboxstove  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if I follow it all of that but I'll think more carefully and see if I can give that a try. I know my casting has much to be desired. You know how old habits go.

    Perfect, Steve!!! this solves all our fire restrictions completely. Can't wait for you to release that square pot, too. These are MUST HAVES for us ADV riders. I just ordered the burner and the tongs set to go with my Gen 2 stove. Once I get the pot, I think I'll give deep dish pizza a try! @@fireboxstove We just ordered the burner unit for my Nano, as well as my Gen 2, and my wife ordered that small ultra cook kit along with some other goodies. As soon as you release that square pot though, we're going to need one! I'm considering doing a seminar at next year's Touratech Rally on Firebox cooking now that you've got that new burner-there's nothing I can't cook on that setup, and the square pot will be icing on an already outstanding cake!! And I'm glad your foot's healing well! Those Husqvarnas can bite! Great bikes though.

    A story~
    My first motorbike tarp camping was an accident made into a necessity that'll never be forgotten! Summer 1986 & 16 years old: got my first street legal Honda cm250 that I'd load and take all over the hills and high country of beautiful Colorado on day trips. Got caught *in* the Mt Evans Wilderness mountains during a mild rain that turned into a deluge. Had to fashion my small tarp that used to hold stuff down on my seat over my bike to keep the engine "dry", while I took cover under it, too. "Slept" in my rain jacket til the storm kind of cleared, which was about 4am, but still dark out because anyone who knows knows them 14'er hills hide that sun in the valley all day. Unfortunately, I had eaten all my backup food that night, and had nothing to eat. Thank God for wild strawberries, because I found a tiny field of them at first light and probably ate the whole field, lol! I soon packed my bike, and rolled back onto I-70 back into Denver with a memory to last a lifetime!

    Another Excellent video Steve,,,,
    I do believe that this is the First time you didn’t catch something, throughout the video. The Square cook set looks amazing. When you showed the pizza stone,, the First thought I had was incorporating a “Steaming rack”. A lot of the campers I know from Japan and Korea are avid steamers. You didn’t give the amount of liquid the Square would hold. But other than
    adding a steaming rack; it looks like an awesome addition to the Firebox lineup. Your Creativity never ceases to amaze me,,,!!! 👍👍👍

    Not 100% sold on the one pot system for cooking elaborate meals but I am definitely impressed with the gas burner enough to have one on the way to Canada this morning. We love that the Firebox is always improving. Square pot sounds like a great idea
    For cooking spam: I do a fair amount of that and then boiling water for a protein boosted quick noodle lunch. Spam scorches to the bottom really easily so best bet is cooking it as 1 bigger square piece on really loooow heat and slow. Preheat the empty cup with some oil before adding spam. Like really hot [its the same idea as cooking on nonstick stainless steel pans]

  • @tonybony411
    @tonybony411 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just ordered the burner and diffuser plate today!
    I'm hoping the pot will fit snug over the Scout so it can replace the top lid, and doesn't occupy space inside the stove when it's all packed up in a kit so i can still keep a lot of necessities inside. Maybe you can stamp the same "x" pattern on the bottom of the pot as the X case so it interlocks with the Nano legs whether they are pointing in or out. It should also work with the Scout grates too. It should help keep it more stable and from turning.
    On the lid, maybe have a flip cover or a slider over the strain holes so you don't get ash inside the pot when you place hot coals on top, perhaps it will be a little more efficient when boiling? Maybe make one hole large enough so you can leave a thermometer in it to minimize opening the lid while baking?
    You can have an optional lid that snaps on, and has a whistle like tea pot. Use it in an emergency situation to help search and rescue team to find you, and ward off hungry animals. Or, basically reminds you that your water is done boiling while you are preparing other things.
    Anyway, that's my feedback. I'm excited to see your field tests in the future, and the final product on Kickstarter! Take care! 😁

    As mentioned by others, I was thinking of a rack inside the pot, but to use for steaming or warming. With water in the bottom you could steam the beans rather than boil them, or warm a muffin that you baked the previous day.
    As to the lid, after boiling something, it may be too hot to put your thumb on it when pouring off the water/liquid.

    • @fireboxstove
      @fireboxstove  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes. Good eye. The handle on the lid does lock in the up position so you will be able to hold that little ring when draining 👍😎 as for a steamer rack that's a good idea that I'm considering design options for.

I use the bacon fat from cooking in the ‘tall’ pot to cook the eggs in the lid/pan. I love my firebox nano and my larger one as well. Look forward to hearing more about the box pot as you test it

    Look into a Kawasaki KLR650. After market seat on a KLR would be about 1 million times more comfortable and the KLR has been in production for 25 - 30 years so accessories and parts are way more available too. Much cheaper to operate plus a 7+ gallon gas tank. the camping setup is amazing thought. well thought out and functional.

    I ended my bike riding career back about 10 years ago. Just seen too many fatalities and had too many close calls with idiots on the road. Being off road, in my opinion, is the safest place but there are still dangers such as animals that will bolt right out in front of you. I hit a rabbit on a back-road once and almost completely wiped me out. If I had one suggestion for that I would say get one of those wind whistles. Seem to be pretty effective. You have a bike that is designed for that terrain so just continue training yourself. Baby steps will build confidence and experience. The stove design is really cool and I want to see where it ends up because I might be purchasing one. Thanks

    Hi Steve. Another innovative idea that I am sure will be readily accepted by all outdoors people. I have two thoughts on the pot. First, will the pot be hard anodized providing strength and allowing for seasoning? Second, is it worth considering small groves on the bottom of the pot that match the arms of the Nano to help keep the pot in place? Everything else about the design looks spot on to me. I look forward to testing on out. Thanks for sharing

    Steve, Next time you are in a situation where the sunny side eggs are not cooking through, don’t scramble them - put a teaspoon of water in and cover it. The steam will cook the egg whites perfectly within a short amount of time.

    As another person who motorcycle camps I take my firebox stove with me on every trip. I haven't had a chance to use the Nano stove yet but the 5 inch has served me well no matter what conditions I get myself into...
    Honestly I think you probably could have made that crossing with the snow covering the road but I understand how an injury can wreck your confidence and make you a bit more risk adverse, so no judgement on my part I've been there myself a time or two.
    As far as the square cooking pot I'd be interested if nests well with a stove Because when motorcycle camping, space is a premium while weight isn't as large a concern. I still will likely consider picking one up as it seems to be a good match for the Nano and will likely work well for the 5 inch stove as well.

    That's great! I usually just put on a leather glove to turn my Nano feet when switching from a frying pan to a cup/pot. The square pot looks pretty handy, though! I can't wait to see what you're going to bake in it. I wonder if you put some kind of spacer in the pot to raise up the pizza stone, if it would get hot enough to bake a pizza that high?
    What I would have done on the Spam and eggs is put some cheese on top of the eggs. When the cheese is melted, the eggs are as done as I want them to be, but I still get that runny yolk goodness.

    Nice video Steve, thanks for sharing with us. Love the new cooking set up and square pot idea. I agree the cooking grate fitting inside for a steamer would be pretty slick. Count me in on adding to them to my Firebox collection. I love all your products and fully support your well thought out new products (still waiting on a Firebox reflector oven though😉). Also, I was thinking maybe canned cinnamon rolls would work in your recipe vs. crescents rolled in cinnamon sugar and it would come with the frosting drizzle to boot??

    • @fireboxstove
      @fireboxstove  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you might be right Eric that crescent dough was really tender which is why the cream seem to soak into it. Pretty funny disaster but at least it tasted good in the end 👌👍😎😆

    Great vid once again. The box pot looks real good. Does the grill plate fit inside the box pot? Some small stones, a little water, and the grill plate or a screen tofit inside makes a good steamer for veggies. Then use the screen on the stove with your stones + a few more heat the crud out of them, then start baking you're desert with the hot stones on top.

    Great video, thank you. And thank you for the bonus ride video at the end, that was really pretty. When you showed the new box pot, I thought it will make it easy to pull out your cake if you line it with parchment paper. With the folds on the outside, hopefully you can easily just pull your cake out. Give the dogs and goats a pat for me.
