  • How I feel about nintendo's prices for nintendo switch games. These games never drop in price for games that are over three years old, and it's time someone spoke up about it.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a port of a Wii U game is priced at $79.99 while the Wii U retail price was $64.99. Same thing with Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. They increased the price instead of decreasing it. A good chuck of my switch games have been bought second hand. $80 is too much for a game. Then there’s talks of Sony and Microsoft possibly increasing the games to $70 USD which would be $90. People are not going to be spending that at all. Movies and tv shows have always been under $50 excluding complete tv series. Why do those get cheaper prices, but video games have to be expensive? Doesn’t make sense. Don’t get me started on those people who say “Oh it’s actually cheaper by inflation.”

Game development is more expensive that it even has been. I'd rather buy a game for $70 than buy one for $60 riddled with micro transactions. I think game devs also need to calm down on their budgets if a game like minecraft can become the best selling game ever. Which is an indie game. Clearly budget means nothing to consumers.

A friend of mine just got himself a nintendo switch and he was extremely excited to play both BoTW and Mario Odyssey (and willing to pay for them). At Nintendo they are fully aware of the fact that 8/10 people (made up statistic but quite accurate) who buy their consoles want to play these games, hence their value doesn't decrease until they stop selling as many consoles, right? The same thing doesn't happen with Crash Bandicoot games. They can be purchased in three different consoles and they are not as "essential" as the italian plumber.

Good thing Nintendo is discounting the old editions of FIFA on the Switch and later removing them from the eShop, but that doesn’t mean they can’t discount exclusive games.

Yeah mario kart 8 deluxe is currently on sale or $50 at target. You are right that physical comparisons can help given Nintendo does the expansion pack bs (let alone overpriced expansion switch online where it is easier to buy booster courses) over digital deluxe. I'm just glad 2 consoles can share the same digital game on the switch online family plan, let alone those who bought a switch with digital Mario kart 8 for black Friday sale years ago.

I have a personal theory as to why Nintendo keeps being like this and annoying people with their practices
Nintendo pretty much has a monopoly on some of the biggest gaming series of all time (Mario, Zelda, Pokémon) that the other game console companies… simply don’t
There are quite a bit of games that USED to be longtime exclusives on PlayStation and/or Xbox systems, but they eventually get ported to other systems, including Switch (even games that are actually OWNED by Sony or Microsoft)
but you’ll never see the likes of “Super Mario on the PS4” or Samus in the non-Nintendo versions of Fortnite
Nintendo doesn’t HAVE to make things better to remain successful, because they still have the benefit of having the ONLY systems on the market that can play certain beloved games, and some people will do anything to keep playing them

    • @rorisangpitswane3595
      @rorisangpitswane3595 ปีที่แล้ว

A year later but I’ll also add on, Nintendo want to keep the value of their games so they can sell them for more in the future. If all of a sudden they make a Mario game $10 dollars even if on a sale, in 10 years when they port said game to their next big console and sell it at full price nobody would buy it because “this was worth 10 bucks at one point”, if they stick their price points people accept the reality of their prices as commonplace e.g. instead of “this is expensive I won’t buy it” they say “I gotta save up for that new Nintendo game”.

Here in Europe, i buy the Switch games secondhand. Mostly around €15-20. Have had some luck finding Mario / Zelda / Pokémon games for around €5-10.
If a game comes out, I just wait it out. Buy it later from someone when they dump their games on secondhand websites. The full retailprice of €50-60 is not worth it. For that price, you find 3 to 4 games secondhand in great condition 😊

The pricing is why I never bought more Nintendo games, I but the stuff I really want on release and then never bother to even look in the shop since I know nothing will be lowered to a price I might actually want to buy it for, this also means that besides the big releases I have no clue what even is on the Switch as I am not invested in the eco system and never will be, but I guess Nintendo is fine with losing out on sales and straight up money because of this.

For nintendo games I've learned that your gonna either buy it or dont. There is no waiting for price drops.
That's some of the reasons why I don't get some of their titles like dkc tropical freeze, warioware, mario sports like tennis/golf, rhythm heaven, any yoshi game, tomadachi life, ect. I have to pick and choose. Although I would have never played mario + rabbids if it was always full price instead of me getting it for 20 bucks so there is benefits for them if their prices did lower I'd get more of their games but they dont usually do that. I usually only get the games I really want to try out like smash, botw, mario odyssey, mario kart 8, and kirby.

The reason why they don't comes down to the fact that Nintendo has managed to maintain this image of not being direct competitors to Microsoft and Sony's consoles. When people talk about the console wars, they're directly comparing Xbox and Playstation, and thus those two must engage in more similar practices(including how they price things) to stay competitive.

I would at least expect them to do sales as time passes honestly it’s greed but also like bad business practice.
The game has already made most of it’s profit the first few years, that’s why Sony games and other developers discount their prices. This all changed with the newest president and staff at Nintendo I mean what happened to Nintendo selects of the Wii era
Meanwhile you can see Sony keeping their greatest hit even giving some games at times to attract and please their costumers.
Nintendo could be reaching larger audiences by making their games go on sale with larger discounts, make the game more accessible to other people will bring more customers which some of them might eventually buy a full price game, yeah some might wait for sales but again that cost will be repaid with new customers and some of them becoming loyal. Plus sales numbers please investors no matter what the customer payed as price it looks good on paper.
Now seeing the New Zelda priced at 69,99 USD is just disappointing and scary if it becomes the new standard as like the video points out they almost never go on sale and when they do it’s not by much.
People should stop buying them at full price yes I agree but it will keep willing regardless by fans. Nintendo probably will only be discounting their games more once they have a failure console like the WiiU again that’s the only time they will be “generous” towards customers because they will be hungry for sales. But again also the management then was different and they have other visions.
I mean just look at the switch UI and the e-shop, everything feels more bland now.

there's a price tracker website for sony playstation games. so you know when is a good time to get a good game.
but there's no price tracker for nintendo games. you know why ? it's simply because the prices never drops.
at least sony is a respectable company for their summer sale and many discount event.
that's why I hope steam deck launch would change nintendo's stingy practices.
