      A few examples: Kojima games, Bethesda games, Square games, Blizzard games, Atlus, Mitzuguchi games (Tetris Effect), GRID and Dirt games, Ace Combat, most Star Wars games, Platinum games. And the list keeps growing. New publishers like Heart Machine, the makers of FURI, the guys who made A Plague Tale...they keep popping up out of nowhere.

I used to think that a $60 game that I could sink 60 hours into was worth it, but now as I've gotten older and gotten a job and can make my own purchasing decisions, I don't really think that anymore. RE8 was $60 at launch for only about a 7-8 hour game but that experience was so memorable and fun that I thought it was worth it 100%. Plus, deals are always happening for games and you can easily pick up a great game for way less than retail price if you just do a little bit of bargain hunting. Now I’ve got a backlog of over 500 games in my Steam Library and 200+ of them are games I still need to play (And that’s not including the hundreds of games I got for free off the Epic Games store every week).

    I've had my Steam account for almost 15 years and have acquired over 800 games in that time, a lot from bundles where I got a few years old AAA games for less than $5. I got GTA V, Borderlands 3 and dozens of indie games for completely free from Epic games (besides dealing with their spyware launcher lol) and GOG also has given me free games and sub $3 deals on games like Homeworld.
    I've been slowly working through my Steam library now that I own a Steam Deck ($400 64gb model I upgraded myself to 256gb for the cost of $19). At the rate I'm playing games, these 800 games and the occasional deal from Steam winter sales, I'll be set for a long time.
    I feel like PC gaming is the budget friendly version of gaming. (especially if you sail the high seas to try games before you buy) Hell, anymore most integrated graphics can play Triple A games at 720p 60fps. You don't need a 3090 to game, most people are still using a 1060 they paid $100 for.

    fun fact: nowadays games are the cheapest they've ever been, PS3 games costed between 40 to 50 dollars, adjusted to inflation that's between 75 to 95, well, more than cheaper, they've just always been the same, the problem isn't the price, but the lack of a reason for it to be worth it keeping the price or adjusting it to inflation

  • @Vintagesonic1
    @Vintagesonic1 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    For me, I don't think it's a matter of they're "too expensive" (which they definitely are), but it's more of the problem that there are too many games constantly coming out, all which I really want to play and sometimes they come out in the same month. Because of this, I have a bunch of around 40-ish sealed games collecting dust, that I bought years ago, waiting to be played, because I simply lack the time or energy to play them all. But by far the main reason why I haven't gotten around to playing a bunch of those games, is because when Judgement remastered came out on the PS5 a couple of years ago, it made me want to get into the Yakuza series. I then proceeded to purchase every single Yakuza game that had released up until that point and since each game takes about 150 - 200 hours to 100%, because I'm one of those guys who likes to go for the platinum trophies on most games I play, then I often take a couple of months (or more) break from starting the new entry in the franchise. Currently I've only completed Both Judgement games, Zero and Kiwami 1&2. Kiwami 2 really drained me and it's been like 7 months since I completed it. The reason I haven't started Yakuza 3 yet is simply because I already own the PC version and from the little I played, it felt really janky compared to the later games in the series, hence I'm hesitant to start it on PS5. I think once I finally get the Yakuza games out of the way, I can finally make a dent into my backlog.

    • @realtayo42
      @realtayo42  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest, if I was only going to play one franchise forever, it would be either the yakuza games or the Legend of Heroes, so I think you've made a great choice there! Manufacture computers on an assembly line for instance have to raise their prices to make that money back...

    I was, what you'd call, a mature gamer. I started playing games around 1977 when I was 6 and pretty much stopped, around 2013ish. I still played games afterwards but drastically reduced the time played. I still play now and again, but not much.
    When I started playing games, here in the UK, I'd go down to the store and the games, for my BBC Micro were about £2 or so. It was the old cassette cases, about 4.25 × 2.75 × 0.6 inches. I think it was when Elite came out, back in 1984 when it was a big box, filled with loads of literature. That continued through the CD age and when digital downloads came along it pretty much stopped.
    I'm just shocked not just by the prices, downloading data for astronomical costs, but all the loot boxes and DLC. But what's worse that both is that these greedy companies won't even finish their games. They'll just release them, many that are still in alpha testing and expect the customers to buy they 'work in progress' crap.
    I was a musician. An album today, you can pick up for around £10. _'Top Gun: Maverick'_ costs £5 on Amazon. That's a fraction of the cost of video games. Albums and movies have infinite replay value whereas games don't. Other than the disgusting costs, the indoctrination in video games, along with women getting in on the scene and f*cking up franchises (as they're doing with the woke movie industry) has pushed me away from having anything to do with them.
    I've just no interest. People are SERIOUSLY being ripped off by the gaming industry. The time it takes good musician to make an album along with a good movie, is really no different to a video game. It's just blatant rip-off profiteering from the gaming companies and the reason they're charging so much is because the public pay the stupid costs because they're utterly and totally addicted to them. In the latter years of playing games, I'd play on Steam and download their _'under £4'_ games. Most of the time I'd go on eBay or another CD key company and buy them there at a much more reduced cost than on Steam. I don't think I've paid anything more than £7 or so.
    You have to be mad to pay £70+ for a video game, especially when it's unfinished, not tested properly, full of bugs and the stupid price they charge. So, yup, I'll continue to be avoiding games. It's a pity. I heard they're making Dragon's Dogma 2, as I loved Dragon's Dogma, but with the cost they'll charge and no doubt it being 100% woke, I'll pass.

    Triple-A games back in the day were like $60 and DLC was like $10-$15 with a ton of content now they're $70 and that's just for the regular standard edition. Games w preorder benefits/bonus content range from like $100-$130 which is absolutely ridiculous and most games these days have some sort of battlepass/seasons which imo has ruined gaming. Everything is going up in price except our wages.

    Kobe Bryant Standard edition: $70
    Black Mamba Edition: $100

    When Sony and their partners like 2K enforced the $70 price tag for “next gen” back in 2020 I knew there was no going back from it. Devs are now constantly milking that extra $10 out of you just for simple performance enhancements that Xbox first party has been providing for free. Almost no 3rd party developer now is using Xbox Smart Delivery because they want that next gen tax income. Why should they sell their game for $60 on Xbox or PC with free upgrades and $70 on PS5? They will obviously want same prices everywhere and the highest possible. It sucks and honestly Sony is mainly to blame for this.

    For me I'd rather have a game be enjoyable & short than long & boring or repetitive. With that said I've done the math & games are currently the cheapest they've ever been when factoring in inflation, but the issue is even if we're older now our disposable income isn't nearly as much as it was about a decade or so ago. Also the other issue is there's never been as many interesting games coming out, so my trick has been en to be thoughtful with each purchase like you've mentioned & to focus on beating gsmes I already own. Of course I've been buying more than I can play when they go on very cheap prices, but I understand I've been both lucky & smart with when I buy games.
    At the end of the day I love Elden Ring & played it for 136 hours so far, but I'd say Sifu's 38 hours were a better value if prices were the same (they're not). My reason is I know I'll replay Sifu more in the future as it's very repayable for me. Same reason my favorite game is DKC which I can beat in 2 hours these days, but I've played it almost yearly since release.

    Earthbound for the SNES was $70 in 1995 when I brought it from Toys R Us in 1995. I was 11 years old and I loved games like Earthbound and I was not rich obviously I did chores around the house and I was lucky to have an allowance and my grandma took me to get the game. I’m just saying I had to chose which games to buy. I couldn’t buy every game back in the day that I thought about playing but today there are subscription services we didn’t have in the 90s, there’s emulation if you have a pc or a modded console and people still complain about $70 games. I get it money is not infinite but you have to make choices. You have to say to yourself which games do I like to play? Which games are important to me? Which games can I buy and afford to play? Then buy those games you can’t play every single game also there isn’t enough time to play every single game that comes out. It’s really just about saying hey which games do I love? Which games do I enjoy? And then saying well I’m gonna play these games. I’m also a huge Zelda fan, I’ve played Tears of the Kingdom for hundreds of hours and I’m still playing it. I paid well over $70 for ToTK when you consider that I brought the Zelda OLED, the collector’s edition and a physical copy of the game itself. But I didn’t buy other games because I love Zelda games so yeah that’s just my 2023 gaming status. I still love Zelda games. I’ve played Earthbound on Switch online and I still have my old copy of Earthbound from back in the day. But I can’t play every game that comes out I just make choices on games I want to play the most…games like Zelda.

    I just wait until they are on sale and constantly check out key websites. Also game pass is a great tool for playing expensive games.

    The prices are fine depending on the game. I'm not expecting it to be movie price or something when there is much more value than a movie.

      I think the depending on the game part is important. I believe there are plenty of games that are worth it, and many more that aren't

    I never pay more than €25 for a game. period. If they are more expensive and I want to play them I download them via torrent.

    Need for speed unbound costs 80 euros on the Xbox store here in Italy. It’s insane. 70 would be ridiculous already but 80? That’s almost double what games were at 10 years ago. I remember when they were 50 or maybe 60. It’s getting out of hand.

    • @realtayo42
      @realtayo42  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Holy cow, 80 euros?! That's insane! I have to question if a game is worth it at 60, 80 is a whole different level. Crazy

      @@realtayo42 Yep, and I wasn’t aware before but I just realized it’s only available on PS5 and Xbox one x so I can’t get it anyway lmao. So I’m gonna have to spend 500 before I can spend 80. Nice

    „Luckily“ I don‘t have the time to play more than a three or four a year anyways…

    I always wait. Reviews to avoid paying an arm and a leg for disappointment, massive sales on games a few years old, patches that make them better, so of course initially bad releases as well, dlc not yet released but when later included still a lot cheaper... All reasons to wait. No reason to rush, because this way, you can buy WAY more games that are just as good now as they were a year ago, and probably better than they were at release. I've spent a ton less on games than I used to, played a lot MORE actually, and STILL somehow ended up with a backlog, long wish list, and big collection of games. It just only cost me a fraction of what it used to cost me, so I also save a lot more money to buy... well, my forest cabin, food for my rescue dogs, a totally off grid second home in the mountains in another country,... And I'm not even kidding. Coming from hardly being able to pay rent for a city appartment that got me depressed and miserable. Sure, I made a lot more changes in my life than JUST my insane gaming budget of the past of course, but it plays a massive role in this.
    I just saw a local gamestore promoting a new NFS game. A racing game, at 80€. As if we don't have plenty of options to play racing games that are just as good if not better, for 5€ if we want, and play this one when it dropped to 20€ if we really want it just because everyone who is made out of money has already moved on to the next hype train.

      Wow, you really have a good head about this. You're absolutely right that games will be just as good a couple years later as they are at release, if not better with content additions and patches. It sounds like you've been able to use your money to accomplish some great things, hats off to you!
      Thanks for watching!

    Living in a 3rd world shithole, i couldn't, and wouldn't get a game console, cuz not only it's taking space and time for the *sole* reason of playing games, the shipping price made it a lot more preferrable to play on pc than any other devices. Especially, my most hated of all, mobile.

      @realtayo42  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats a great point. Consoles exist just for leisure but a pc can both play games and make you money. Thanks for watching!

    Developers saying that's because of "the optimisating every engine is getting harder"
    So, street fighter 6 is already cost $61 (for the lame edition ofc) and $114 for ultimate edition. Not even a pre-order. And uhh even $60 for the game without a solid story mode (yeah the "story" mode everyone call here is a world tour it is literally a copy of star rail but even worse with awful graphics and yet lagging on rtx3060) is way too expensive. The top sales are speaking tho, sf6 have lost top positions in 1 week.

    Almost every fifa game falls down to $30-40 after few months of launch. At that price it makes sense to buy every 3 years or so.

    • @realtayo42

      Yeah id say half price and keeping it for a couple years is a good deal. Thanks for watching!

      If you don't care about roster updates you could just buy a cheap copy of Fifa 19 on Switch, I'm fairly certain that the game is exactly the same as buying Fifa 23 Legacy Edition.
