    Bought a gently used 2017 Thruxton R a couple of months ago. I just love the thing. I rode for 25 years and then had taken a break from riding for about 15 years and this was my entry point back into riding. Excellent machine. You’re right, 100 miles you’d feel. 200 miles would be brutal. But my previous bike was a Yamaha R6 so by comparison, the Thruxton is a lounge chair.

    As someone that works on them every day and owns a business working and tuning them (DNK TuneWorks) I really don't agree at all that the difference between the Thruxton R and Thruxton RS is just styling.
    Thruxton R is 442 lbs, 96hp, 7300 rev limit. Rides on old Diablo Rosso Corsas.
    Thruxton RS is 434 lbs, 103HP, 8000 rev limit, same torque but it comes on 1,000 RPM earlier. Rides on Racetec RR's..
    This alone give them both different dynamics. Just the longer legs on the RS alone really change the feel in a great way, and one of my complaints about the Thruxton was always how soft the torque was from 2-3k, and the RS fixes that.
    Thruxton RS also has better brakes, on the Thruxton R. This would also be significant. I have the same brakes on my shop Speed Triple, and they come down from speed much better than my shop Thruxton R. It's enough that the RS is a definite worthy upgrade over the R, and NOT the same experience.
    I watched the entire video looking for the RS, but you never got on one, so might want to amend the video, as the two bikes can't really be lumped into one, when it's not even the same 1200HP engine anymore from 2016 to 2020.

    Had mine from new in 2016 have toured in Scotland for a week and a fortnight to the Pyrenees, riding all the way, after fitting the comfort seat no worries.
    The youngster in our group of three was in considerably more discomfort on his street triple r , so as you say it’s all relative
    It’s a keeper. Good vid if only for those Whaah moments. 👍🏻

    Loved this Alf. I know exactly where you are coming from here. I briefly owned a Triumph Street Cup this year. Some call it a baby Thrux the way it is set up. It’s really a Street Twin tweaked into a cafe racer style.Tremendous fun but ultimately it had to go as it was too similar to my long term lover, my T100 Black. I would urge any viewer of this to buy a retro Triumph. So much fun a easy to ride.

      Merry Xmas Jamie & Alf ! Have to agree with you Jamie. Spent 12 hours on the T120 4 weeks ago over 2 days. Super comfortable riding position. Obviously the T100 is similar.
      The Thruxton has some nice specs on it and certainly has a nice motor.
      Rode my Xmas Yamaha Scooter for 6 hours yesterday.

    I was loaned one of these while my street triple 765RS was in for service. I was very impressed by the good torque, loved the look and was sorry to take it back. I can see what you mean about longer rides though even though I did a short your even on my old Fireblade so not impossible just not what they are really designed for. I think if you can only have one bike you need to be really sensible about what you expect to use it for. Often these bikes will be second bikes bought for the look I suspect?

    Great review tho mate, much better than the yanks. Their roads are boring and they just waffle on and on about never seem to have the enthusiasm as us Brits 🇬🇧

    do they have any bar options you wouldn't want to make a drastic change maybe just a few degrees I guess that's just in off the line manufacturing my wife has the speedmaster the exhaust note is very nice

    My biking buddy has a 2019 speedmaster, which i have ridden. i love the engine (liquid torque), but am not a great lover of forward controls/cruisers. this Thruxton R RS would be too extreme, is there an upright roadster in the Triumph range using the 1200 engine?

      There's a few different 1200's in the range now. Six variants.
      1200HT. Bonneville T120, Speedmaster and Bobber all share it. Heavier crankshaft and less compression than the 1200HP Rev1
      Rev1 1200HP - Thruxton S, Thruxton R
      Rev1a 1200HP - Speed Twin. Same as Rev1, but magnesium covers for a lighter assembly
      Rev1b 1200HP - Scrambler 1200 only. Single Throttle Body
      Rev2 1200HP - Thruxton TFC only. Magnesium covers, different camshaft, more compression
      Rev2a 1200HP - Thruxton RS only. Magnesium covers, different camshaft, secondary air injection
      Each has different power output, rev limits, etc

    “Backroads are where Cafe racers are to be ridden ?”
    Isn’t it the exact opposite? I.e., “Main roads are where Cafe racers are to be ridden” ?
    Aren’t they typically meant for “Sunday morning short rides to nearby Cafe and return ?” due to their committed seating position?
    Anyway, ( in my opinion) it can be a 3rd bike ( not even the 2nd one) for those who’re loaded !

      If you go A or fast B-roads (rather than wet leafy almost single-track C-roads) the wind will keep the weight off your wrists. Similarly distance work you're gonna be going on faster roads. French N-roads spring to mind...yummy! Comfort and dual seat options, bar risers (or lower). Knee pads for grip. The nylon panniers look the part too. That or a Ducati 950s with a touring pack. Equally mildly sporty.

    Why the hell you’re taking it on shitty back roads full of mud, leaves and blind corners limiting you to 30/40mph is beyond me. Get it on the A roads for god sake let the bike stretch it’s legs! It’s not like our A roads in the uk are lacking twistiness
