My soul literally comes to life in autumn. My love for this season is infinite 🍁🍂 Here are some of my favorite autumnal Books/classics : - Rebecca, by Daphne du Maurier - Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Brontë - Frankenstein and Dorian Gray (indeed quintessential autumn books) - Great expectations, by Dickens - Wuthering heights, by Emily Brontë - The secret history, by Donna Tartt - Many many more 🍁🕯️ Awesome video Ruby, as always :)
I was hoping she was going to talk about Jane Eyre, but I'm so glad that you mentioned it now! It's one of my all time favourite books and I think it fits autum perfectly.
Autumn is the best and most beautiful time of the year! Haha, I’m German and it’s soo cute how you called ”unheimlich“, I had to laugh! I know, German is hard to learn for English people, but it’s nice. Ruby, you’re the best motivation and inspiration for me and I think also for all of us. I watched Coraline the movie, two or three years ago I think, and I didn’t expect that it’s so good! After the first watching I rewatched it thousand times 💕🍵
If you laugh at this, wait to see how it works in romanian schools🤣🤣 they teach us german from 6 year old to 14(middle school) and college(15 yr-18yr) and we still don't know how to read🤣🤣🤣 we can say that German gives us headaches and besides that it is also compulsory😅❤ LOVE FROM ROMANIA
I have an amazing German professor, he taught us the pronunciation basics and the sounds of compound letters, and thanks to that I can pronounce almost any German word I see, even though I don't know the meaning. It's interesting, because I've always thought that German is one of those unpronounceable languages, I never wanted to try because it sounded very complicated to me and that I'd never actually succeed in learning it and pronunciation was my biggest struggle, that's why if anyone is hesitant to learn any language should just go for it and they may wonder later why they were not certain at first
Wonderful recommendations, Ruby! Here are some of my own. - The Phantom Of The Opera by Gaston Leroux - The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame - My Neighbor Totoro by Miyazaki Hayao and Kubo Tsugiko (yes, there is a book!) - Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Kawaguchi Toshikazu - Pilu of the Woods by Mai K. Nguyen - The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O'neill
Here are some of mine for this season: Dracula-Bram Stoker Something Wicked This Way Comes-Ray Bradbury The Halloween Tree-Ray Bradbury The Graveyard Book-Neil Gaiman Wuthering Heights-Emily Bronte Phantom of the Opera-Gaston Leroux Northanger Abbey-Jane Austen The House of the Seven Gables-Nathanial Hawthorne Return of the Native-Thomas Hardy Anything by Edgar Allen Poe...for starters!
I LOVE NEIL GAIMAN thank you so much for including him in this video, his books are so good for autumn. People get frustrated because coraline is different in the books rather than the film but I love how he describes her.😁
I love Doppler! There are two sequels to it as well which I highly recommend. What I think you failed to get across is that Erlend Loe is a comedy writer and Doppler is hilarious. One of my favorite books of all time, Muleum, was written by Erlend Loe. Muleum follows a suicidal 17-year-old girl as she travels the world in her quest to die in a plane crash. I also really like his book "L", where the main character is planning an expedition to Polynesia to prove that the islands were populated by people from South America, ice skating across the Pacific ocean during the Ice Age.
Would love a writing tutorial (maybe even live?!) where you walk us through the process of planning and starting to write a novel, and give us the opportunity to plan along with you! Loving the book/writing content :)
I recommend that you read John Yorke's "Into the Woods" which will give you a good grasp on the art of structuring your story, as well as "How to read literature like a professor". Those are my writing teachers recs and they're very useful.
Thank you for mentioning Oscar Wilde; his Book of Fairy Tales was a 1st birthday gift by my dear Uncle. It was a beautiful edition I still have only married by my brother's puppy chewing top of spine! The Nightingale a favorite, wonderfully illustrated tale. Last month I saw a small paperback version, a first! New edition in bookstore with two tables I'd not heard of. Lovely illustrations, pen&ink. Maybe I'll get to read on train to work.
Ruby, I would like to say that you always put a smile on my face and you always remind me that reading and tea are the best combination of all time. Me and my family use you as an inspiration in our lives and re watching you is all my life is worth

Frankenstein, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Sherlock Holmes are some of my favorite classics! They're also perfect to read in the fall.
This Video has all the things I love Autumn , books and of course you You're an inspiration and you always will be. Don't let anyone else tell you any thing different.
Thank you for always showing great contents!💕 🍂"Fall, Leaves, Fall" by Emily Bronte🍂 Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away; Lengthen day and shorten day; Every leaf speaks bliss to me Fluttering from the autumn tree. I shall smile when wreaths of snow Blossom where the rose should grow; I shall sing when night's decay Ushers in a drearier day.
Every time time I watch your videos and listen to you, you remind me of the beautiful flute in Ruby Tuesday by The Rolling Stones. It is so gentle, delicate and heart-warming... just like you when you are talking about books.
I just bought Peculiar Children, so you definitely pushed it up on my Autumn TBR. I read half of the first book in high school like 7 years ago, and I really liked it. I found it used in my local bookshop, so I immediately bought it.
I started reading Cat's Eye and had to quit because it was really making me feel ill. It was very similar to one of my childhood friendships and I just don't really want to face the bad parts of that friendship, even though I know there were there and affected me.
Excellent point about reading past the first three chapters. I have a similar rule when starting a new book or show to read/watch the first three chapters/episodes to give things a fair chance. Because usually by the third part, that's when the story gets going, you're familiar with the setting and characters, etc. Unless of course, from the start it is utterly dreadful but I haven't found that so far.
I love autumn.. seeing the colors of all the plants slowly changing into beautiful oranges, reds, yellows, purples, just absolutely beautiful colors. Watching my favorite halloween movies while drinking my favorite maple syrup and coffee or curling up next to the fireplace reading my favorite books. Lighting candles and carving pumpkins while wearing comfy sweaters. Also the foggy mornings and rainy days bring the most beautiful scenery and vibes all around me and I just absolutely love it. Autumn also starts in my birth month (September 29 is my birthday)
I’m a lifelong fan of Sherlock Holmes and reread them often. Frankenstein is my all time favorite book. The Picture of Dorian Gray is another book with incredible depth - philosophy, religion, good and evil, mental health, societal mores and human nature.
Ruby, I think the reason you get Tim burton vibes from coraline, is because Henry selick, who directed and wrote the screenplay for Coraline, also directed the nightmare before Christmas, wrote and co-produced by Tim Burton, and Pete kozachik was the cinematographer on both movies
I have a fab autumnal-feeling book recommendation: Folk by Zoe Gilbert. It's a really wonderful wee collection of short stories set on the fictional island of Neverness. Gilbert writes these like folktales borne from the landscape which then become part of the history of the island. They are magical and sometimes dark, like most folklore is, and yet it all feels quite familiar. It's a pleasure following the lives of the villagers and seeing how magic is intertwined in their traditions and in their everyday lives. Beautiful!
I recommend White Oleander. It does contain adult themes. It was also a movie. The adult themes are much more explored in the book than the movie. A teen girl's mother murders her boyfriend and gets incarcerated. Astrid, the teen, goes into the foster care system. It's about her experiences at each foster home she gets assigned. The movie cuts out 2 of the foster homes, I believe.
I’ve never really noticed autumn as a season. I just define it as ‘almost winter’. I think I will try to appreciate it this year a bit more, and get cozy :D. I have been meaning to read the picture of Dorian grey for a loooong time
One book I especially like to read in autunm, when I go on extra long walks is "Diary of a young naturalist" by Dara McAnulty. He's recounting an entire year but since the focus is on his experiences, connections and feelings in nature it's so fitting for a october picnic in the woods. He describes his feeling very unique with beautiful phrases he comes up with and the appreciation he has for his surroundings just inspires. I really recommend checking out his work, the other books although a bit more for children are also a great mix of science, tricks and poetry.
I absolutely love doppler! It is so cool that you like it, and actually have read it, it isn't very well known even in Norway. I saw the play too and it was one of the most memorable things ever. And the rest of the books too sound great, I love autumn too so can't wait for it to properly come!
Cat’s Eye is one of my favourite books of all time. Atwood has a lot of great books, others I’ve really enjoyed are The Robber Bride and The Blind Assassin.
Omg! I've never seen anyone else who's heard of Lanny!!! I got it randomly as a gift from someone else who had never heard of it probably four or five years ago and I loved it!
The old black and white film of “the picture of Dorian Gray” is really good. I haven’t bothered with the modern version because I don’t think it was based on the book
Some great recommendations! I definitely need to re-read The Portrait of Dorian Grey soon. Have you ever read Flowers for Algernon? It's one of my favourite books. 😊
Great recommendations Ruby! Thank you, I was looking for the perfect book to just relax on weekends this autumn and your recommendations have definitely made my book wishlist and I have already bought Frankenstein! Thank you! 💜
My Autumnal Favorites: - The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde - The Legend of Sleepy Hollow - Wuthering Heights - Anne of Green Gables - The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings
My favourite autumn book is 'a Night in the Lonesome October' by Roger Zelazny. I reread it every few years and it gives just the best Halloween vibes, I love it and I definitely recommend it
Watching this video was strangely coincidental for me because when I went to my local thrift shop last week I picked up a copy of Miss Peregrine’s, Dorian Gray, and a Sherlock Holmes book.. interested in a few of your other recommendations though! Great video!

Definitely reading coraline this autumn! I always watch the film in the autumn but have never got round to reading the books. I love your book reviews it really helps when I'm stuck on what to read next xx

@@bethmcmullan7686 Ah, I see. I found the secret to be indeed a big deal, but maybe just because I can empathize with it. I had secrets like that during my youth in rural Bavaria and so I know how it might feel.
just finished my first week at anew 6 forms and i absl love it! also your book videos are my fav videos you film , are you planning on doing anymore readathons soon maybe a Halloween one or something , i love them so much and have rewatched your old ones so many times
I've told people left and right that Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein at 19 and just got worried I've been spreading (albeit inconsequential, really) misinformation. Apparently she started writing it at 18 (May 1816, she was born August 1897), so we both got it wrong, Ruby haha (Although it was published January 1818, when she was 19 years old :3 such a ripe and sweet age to publish something so terrifying haha)
Dorian Gray has been made into a film more than once. I've said this before that you really should do your homework before you talk about books or anything really. You need to prepare correctly or, as this time, you look uninformed.
I love your recommendations! I've recently read Poison for Breakfast after hearing about it from you and it's now one of my favorites. I just keep recommending it haha I can't wait for the winter recommendations!
BTW, my autumn books: -Dreaming Spires saga (I think they're only in Spanish and german, yes, the saga name is in English, but that's because the characters are from Oxford and have this newspaper about paranormal suff called Dreaming Spires. It's set in the Edwardian period, with a lot of paranormal, romance, graveyards, mistery and gothic settings. First book is located on a remote town in Ireland, on a very old castle inhabited by a widow and her daughter...And she has a power that reads people's minds and memories touching their skin... Ô_Ô -The Vampire Lestat (well, it's the only book I've finished from this series). I love this idiot. The Brat Prince
aww I thought it was fifty books lol misheard. Hopefully you'll do one for winter! and maybe make it a tad longer than this? the longer, the better when it comes to book recommendations.
I don't think that chapter you mentioned in Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close where the text gets crammed closer and closer together until the page turns black is narrated by Oskar Schell. It's the character who doesn't talk, with the tattoos of YES and NO on his hands. (Trying not to put spoilers!)
Hi ruby i absolutly love your channel but I wonder about the tea is it safe to drink tea with hot water whos not boiled i am just curius othervise I love your home

I was hoping she was going to talk about Jane Eyre, but I'm so glad that you mentioned it now! It's one of my all time favourite books and I think it fits autum perfectly.

Oscar Wilde was Irish, not English, but I agree that he was one of the best writers
I think she might have meant English language writers - but I could be wrong!

It's set in the Edwardian period, with a lot of paranormal, romance, graveyards, mistery and gothic settings. First book is located on a remote town in Ireland, on a very old castle inhabited by a widow and her daughter...And she has a power that reads people's minds and memories touching their skin... Ô_Ô
-The Vampire Lestat (well, it's the only book I've finished from this series). I love this idiot. The Brat Prince
Ruby, I think you’d love The City of Dreaming Books by Walter Moers! It is one of my favorite books.
I love these videos from you Ruby!
On Frankenstein, specifically read the 1818 manuscript. It is much better than the 1830's edition. You feel so much sympathy for the monster.
can't wait to read The Binding!
You will love it!
aww I thought it was fifty books lol misheard. Hopefully you'll do one for winter! and maybe make it a tad longer than this? the longer, the better when it comes to book recommendations.
She says fifteen but the text says fifty
@@simplerelaxation11 yeah, she does stuff like this a lot lol
So good! Thank you for the recommendation :)
Can't wait for more Autumn videos Ruby🔥🍂🍁 Love your book choices 🥰 Xxx
I love your creativity
Thanks for sharing!
Fifteeeeeen, oh I see! Not fifty as it says in the beginning
Your cozy vlogs 😍
