I think one of the things I love about this show is how it portrays motherhood/parenthood. We know in history that the children of royals were basically pawns for alliances, but here you have Isabella, who was very protective towards her children and her children grew up close to their parents. With Isabella, especially in her regards to her children, we see how sometimes she toes the line between thinking like a Queen versus thinking like a mother

Scotti Brown I agree with you, I also love the way Isabel is portrayed, torn between her love for her children and both her and her children's duties to their country. Michelle Jenner is an amazing actress. Like you I look forward to Lilli's posts from this amazing series.

@@bluebellthesecond8353 I agree . I never saw an historical drama before where family relationship, in this case between mother and daughters , was carefully and deeply portrayed. Just fantastic.

Another impactful and beautiful part. I have always said this and I will say it again, the actress does a beautiful job of balancing Isabella's duties as queen and mother, sometimes mother taking presedence. You can't blame Isabella for being terrified for her daughters. She's already lost two children and two grandchildren, and I don't blame her for being scared of losing anyone else. For a parent, losing a child is the worst possible outcome. She would sack the world for her kids but all she could do was pray for them and hope.

'The Spanish Princess', compared to THIS masterpiece, is garbage. Isabella's emotions are stunningly well portrayed! And what else? Historical accuracy to the point you get to live in the moment!

"Isabel" and "Carlos , Rey Emperador" are indeed masterpieces. My favourite historical dramas by far.
However, I admit that I enjoyed " The Spanish Princess ", I enjoyed to watch a young Catalina falling in love , and coming to terms with her new life.
Of course there wasn´t historical accuracy as there is in "Isabel " and " Carlos , Rey Emperador." But in my opinion it was very enjoyable.
At least they didn´t commit horrible historical innacuracies as it was done in "The Tudors"( season 1 , I think, ) when the writers portrayed the king of Portugal ,(who was the richest king in Europe, and an educated and respected man, )in the most ridiculous and even offensive way for the portuguese ).

@@Belinda8881 The Spanish Princess is a grave insult to a *real* *martyr* with *Catholic* views and strength. I'll leave it at that. Oh well. You are entitled to like it ofcourse, darling!

@@MadoliaSteel I guess that by real martyr with catholic views you mean Catalina de Aragon. I agree that she may be considered a martyr because she suffered physically and suffered humiliation upon humiliation that she didn´t deserve.
I respect your view but I , myself, was raised as a Catholic ,I´m a Catholic and fail to see how the series can be an insult to a"real martyr"with Catholic views.
On the other hand I just think that the writers just wanted to give a more modern twist to Catalina´s life, especially to her teenager years and early twenties that were still so unknown and had never been portrayed on screen before.Of course there were big historical innacuracies.
And I think that this is a very" english "version of what really happened. No doubt that if by any chance, the plot and the series had been witten in Spain , it would be a completely different version.

@@MadoliaSteel And what modern takes made no sense to you? The fact that a XVI century princess behaved like a very independent and shrewd 21st century woman when she decided to make Prince Harry fall in love with her ? The historical inaccuracies ?The fact that a princess raised in the Catholic faith in the xvi century wouldn´t dream about lying about whether her marriage had been consummated or not,, and would pray and go to confession more often ? The multicultural aspect ? Forgive me for asking, but I´m a little curious.

Except for Maria, who had a relatively good life for a princess in those times. I also think that Catherine, though known as the miserable repudiated queen of Henry VIII, lived more happy times in her life than most queens and achieved much more. Though her last 10 years were indeed miserable, before that she also had high times. The first decade of her relationship with Henry was very loving and happy. Henry fell in love with her during her difficult years between Arthur's death and Henry VII's death. She had the chance to know love and live in love which was a rare privilege for royal women. She was also very beloved by the English and also had the chance to serve as Regent, she even led the army and won a battle against the Scots. I would say, she lived much happier times and also much unhappier times as others.

5:25 This storyline seems fictional not only because Henry VII's wife Elizabeth of York was alive at this time but also because Margaret of Austria was already married to her second husband. Also, as long as Emperor Maximilian is alive and wears the imperial crown, it is his privilege and his only to form alliances by marrying off his daughter, Philip could do nothing about it. No chance he could arrange marriages for Margaret without Maximilian knowing it and consenting it.
Also, Ferdinand's reaction about this marriage plan seems such a nonsense. Why would a marriage between an ally of theirs (Habsburgs) and other allies (Tudors) would go against him and his countries? 🤷‍♀️ And how come he interferes in other countries marriage alliances, giving orders to the Emperor himself? Sure, he was very powerful, but not that much.
