I love how Ana Torrent played Catherine. No tears, no screaming but powerful. She appears to be extremely calm but not emotionless. Ana Torrent's acting perfectly demonstrates how wise and sophisticated Catherine was as a Queen, and how professional Ana Torrent was as an actress.

@Hel V Yes, she lived in castles, but they were not luxurious, or even comfortable castles! Henry made her live in cold, uncomfortable, dark, unkempt castles in unhealthy locations. And she didn't 'live' in castles, she was imprisoned in them.
And yes, Henry would probably have not executed her, but Catherine genuinely believed that he would, and she was prepared to be a martyr. Henry's men came to her and told her that if they asked her to sign that oath and she refused, Henry would definitely execute her. Most of Europe at that point believed that Henry would execute Catherine. Catherine's friends from court warned her about a possible execution many times. Even the emperor warned her about it.
And I'm pretty sure she was protecting Mary and the Catholic Church rather than her own rights.

Jane Haylay do you... realize what you’ve just admitted? Yes, Catherine of Aragon’s fertility must have been affected by her fasting, but she did it believing it would *help* her children by pleasing God. That’s like blaming a medieval physician for using leeches to draw blood from a patient because people had the misconstrued notion that it would work at the time. She had *no idea* about how terrible it would be for her undoing children- she was trying to *help* them!

Jane Haylay addiction wasn’t even a concept back then. Remember, this was when explanations for various phenomena was either that god made it so, or it was witchcraft, etc. Superstition and prayer was often all they had. She was a woman with a strong sense of duty, a complete devotion to her king and England, and desperately wanted to provide England an heir. She didn’t have the tools or knowledge to cope with underlying issues she had. Her fasting and her religious devotion are just examples of her exhausting persistence in trying to have a healthy child. She, and the world in which she lived, lacked the tools or understanding to know that what she did was possibly harmful.

@@j.b.2263 Problem with her portraits are later copies of originals(especially in 19th century) that look nothing like her!
So I will show you few that are originals, or earlier copies, which are more accurate.
      1)2)3) Sittow's three portraits.
I know some claim it is Mary Tudor(Queen of France), but it looks nothing like rest of her portraits and plenty as Katherine's daughter, Katherine's other portraits and matches perfectly her description of times when she came to England as young girl.
      Cca 1502-1504 they were done.
      commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Mary_Rose_Tudor_(CatherineAragon%3F)_by_Michel_Sittow.jpg
      commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CatherineOfAragonMadonnaMagdalene.png
      4) Copy of lost original(copy made by Wenceslaus Hollar in 1652, but he was known for his accuracy in landscaping...and matches style of early 16th century portraits perfectly.)
Probably made in 1510s, given type of her clothes and youghthful expression.
      www.rct.uk/collection/421499/katherine-of-aragon-1485-1536
5)6)7) Two miniature portraits and monkey portrait.
Made around 1525/1526, first one is probably most telling...
      www.npg.org.uk/collections/search/portrait/mw01143/Katherine-of-Aragon
(and we know it is her, because she wears one of jewels of Queen of England, which we can see on other portraits of Henry's Queens.)
Second you don't recognize as her straight away.
      www.npg.org.uk/collections/search/portrait/mw191234/Katherine-of-Aragon?LinkID=mp00801&role=sit&rNo=2
Until you compare it to larger version of the same portrait-the portrait with monkey and see it is exactly same costume!
      upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ec/Horenbout_Catherine_of_Aragon_with_a_monkey.jpg
She is definitely really round in her face, especially in first miniature...
      8) Lost portrait which also showed jewels of Queen of England.
      upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a2/Catalina_de_Arag%C3%B3n%2C_por_un_artista_an%C3%B3nimo.jpg
Even though it is 18th century copy, the costume is time appropriate, hands holding also, her embroidered chemise, her gable hood, the jewels, her features are there, the bust is there(as can be seen in other portraits of the time period, even hers, big bust was not considered immoral, and shape of the dress really made it go up...). So if all this is accurate, I'd say even in original of this portrait she was not really slim at all...
