Vince is from Norman, Oklahoma. Vince is fabulous guitar player up there with the best. Mentored by Chet Atkins. He's country, gospel, and bluegrass, he was with Pure Prairie League before country. Best eyelashes and smile anywhere.
Actually, that’s only partially correct. He also grew up in Columbus Ohio. His dad was on the bench in Columbus. He was a judge. His family lived next to my in-laws in Columbus, Ohio. I think he was born in Norman, Oklahoma if I remember correctly, and then they came to Ohio. Had to be because in 1994 I went before his dad in court, I was establishing child support. Anyway, that’s maybe too much information but but yes I do realize they were from Oklahoma. Wanted to make sure that everybody knew that actually really started out in Columbus Ohio. One day I could not talk because I had a very sore throat but I was driving and this song came on the radio and when Vince Gill said nobody answers when I call her name, my friend said nobody answers when I call her and she’s right beside me. He’s been gone for about 10 years and I miss him.
Vince Gill is an absolute icon in Country Music because of his beautiful tenor voice, his songwriting and masterful guitar playing. Go Rest High On That Mountain, that he wrote when his older brother died of a heart attack, will wrench your soul from your body! He’s also a scratch golfer, was good friends with Arnold Palmer and had the whole service in tears as he sang this song. You’ve barely touched the tip of the iceberg where Vince Gill is concerned, you’ve just extended your work week by many hours lol!
You should definitely play "Go Rest High On That Mountain" with Vince, Patty Loveless (singing back-up here) & Ricky Skaggs. There's also a version with Vince, Ricky & Alison Krauss. It's just gorgeous. Another iconic song is Patty Loveless singing "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" - live 2011.
My Favorite song by him is a song he did before he went country, he was in a band called Pure Prairie league and is Called Amiee, excellent Guitar player as well.
Thank you for bringing new discoveries to your channel. Vince is one of the best and is recognized as one of the greatest musicians and he also does a lot of work with other entertainers like Patty Loveless. Patty Loveless is a beautiful woman with an extraordinary voice. Her songs tell a story. She is the daughter of a coal miner and no song displays her talents like "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" Check out this live version for the ultimate story telling and just take in her pure voice. There are several live versions and they are FIRE especially the one at Austin City
@@rebeccacurtis6680 Yes she does. She has the soulful sound of the Appalachian mountain people. Because she is one. She was born and raised in the mountains of KY. Her father worked in the coal mines and eventually died of the black lung that many of the miners suffered from.
One of the best guitar pickers and a hell of a voice with 22 Grammy awards to prove it actually Vince at one point got a call from mark Knopfler asking him to join dire Straits but he declined lately he's been touring as part of the Eagles,
He was actually a studio musician before that, he was actually well known, pure prairie League had to convince him to come. But he was there for a couple years and put out a couple of albums with them they were great
In high school in Oklahoma City he played with a bluegrass band locally called Mountain Smoke. A friend grew up across the street from him and his older brothers went to Northwest Classen HS with Vince.

Besides being a fabulous writer and singer, he has to be the most humble person I have met. I met him when his wife gifted him a home putting green, that my nephew's company was installing at his home. When he came up to me, I greeted him as Mr. Gill, and his reaction was to put his hand out for me to shake and said, call me Vinny. He is a National Treasure
One of the best singers in country music. Go rest high on that mountain is incredible. I believe he wrote it for his late brother. Vince is currently touring and playing with the Eagles. None like him, you know it's him as soon as you hear his voice.
Before I rec some Vince Gill songs I want to recommend you listen to 4x Platinum artist Patty Loveless singing backup here. Her song "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" will slay you. Vince Gill can play and sing anything. He's definitely a country guy, and while he was a big star in the 90s Country boom he is huge fan of the subgenres like Western Swing and the High Lonesome Sound so he has quite an eclectic songbook. He's known as much for his musicianship as his singing and songwriting. Lately he's been touring with The Eagles as a stand-in for the late Glenn Frey. Try "Liza Jane", "Take Your Memory With You", "Don't Let Our Love Start Slippin' Away", and his iconic "Go Rest High on That Mountain".
Hey Pegasus! Great reaction! You're diving deep in that country now! Vince Gill! One of my faves! I'm in the Appalachian part of the country and you getting down deep into our bluegrass soul! He seems one of the hardest songs for me to watch him sing, but it is amazing song he wrote for his brother. You have to watch the live one with Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless add a memorial for Keith Whitley another country artist after he passed. I will be very surprised if you get through it without crying. And at the I think it was the country music awards when he did the guitar playing and Carrie Underwood saying How Great Thou Art is one of the absolute best performances ever! I normally reserve the adjective "angelic" for female voices, but that best describes Vince's voice. And it pairs so well with Patty Lovelace. Vince's "Go Rest High On That Mountain" is a must with her and Ricky Skaggs. (Note: Vince was asked to join Eagles after Glenn Frye passed.) As for George Strait & Alan Jackson - "Murder On Music Row" live is a MUST.
He sang one of the best versions of the National Anthem that I’ve ever heard. It was at the Houston Fat Stock Show and Rodeo in the late 80’s or early 90’s. Just straight up put a knot in my throat! Probably even a tear or two. Big fan of Vince. He has a LOT of hits.

Vince Gill has been touring with the Eagles for the past few years. He’s an amazing musician. He makes the guitar weep in Go Rest High and also with Carri Underwood on How Great Thou Art
His career started as a member of the group "Pure Prairie League"... hits like "Aimee" and "Let Me Love You Tonight." His solo career has been nothing short of fantastic. Like many others have said, the song he wrote for his brother, (after his brother's passing,) and dedicated to Keith Whitley, after HIS passing... "Go Rest High On That Mountain," will break you. Guaranteed.... just knowing the meaning it has to him. There are 2 live performances.... one with Ricky Skaggs and Allison Krauss... and the one that breaks me, every time... performed with Patty Loveless, at the George Jones memorial, held at the Grand Ole Opry, after Jones' passing.
He's married to Amy grant who is a Christian singer but has been in mainstream as well and Vince Gill is country and they sing together more like country Christian music. I grew up listening to them when I was young as a pastors kid
"Go Rest High on that Mountain "becoming one of the most requested songs for funerals. Recently it was played at my cousin's funeral. It's a must listen too.
Vince Gill "Go Rest High on That Mountain" is my favorite by him. It speaks to me bcuz of the loss of my Dad. He can play guitar amazing, almost any instrument.

From what I remember he was very very shy and only played the backup music and vocals for a long time. He got through it and did his singing career and hosted many country award shows. One of the best voices ever
Country,blue grass,ect
You should check our "whenever you come around" and "go rest high on that mountain" from Vince Gill next!!
And Patty Loveless is singing in the background here. Shes another great country woman you should check out! "You'll never leave Harlan alive" and "you don't even know who I am" from Patty Loveless!
@Black Pegasus
Three weeks ago you reacted to Carrie Underwood singing How Great Thou Art.
Vince Gill was playing guitar for her.
Vince Gill has been touring with the Eagles for the past few years. He’s an amazing musician. He makes the guitar weep in Go Rest High and also with Carri Underwood on How Great Thou Art
You need to hear his song “ go rest high on that mountain “
His career started as a member of the group "Pure Prairie League"... hits like "Aimee" and "Let Me Love You Tonight."
His solo career has been nothing short of fantastic.
I love Vince Gill ❤❤❤
Go rest high on that mountain is a classic. He dedicated it to his brother and to country singer Keith whitley who both died. It's a beautiful song.
It's a must listen too.
please do Vince Gill go rest high on that mountain
That right there is country music at its finest. Legend.
Patty’s harmonies along with Vince’s voice, whew!!! Love them both!
I love Vince and Reba’s duet the heart won’t lie 😍😍
One of my favorite country singers. I sang go rest high on that mountain at my uncle's funeral. Check it out. It's awesome
You need to listen to Go Rest High on That Mountain. He wrote it when his brother passed and it's beautiful! ❤️
That is Patty Loveless in the background She is also a Country legend !
Vince Gill "Go Rest High on That Mountain" is my favorite by him. It speaks to me bcuz of the loss of my Dad. He can play guitar amazing, almost any instrument.
Opposite side of the happiness spectrum is Vince Gill "Look at us"
This is a great song for "hope for the future"...
Look at Us is a timeless classic from Vince. It is absolutley beautiful.
I would love to see your reaction to David Allan Cole, The perfect country song. I think you'll get a kick Outta it, we loved it at the "country club" 😊
*David Allan Coe
Actually the name of the song is you never even call me by my name bye David Allan Coe. Absolutely would love to watch you react to it
@@susanpippin9874 Pro tip: don't be the "Actually...." person without getting it right. The song is "You never even CALLED me by my name." And though it was later recorded by David Allan Coe, it's a song by Steve Goodman and John Prine.
Check out “Go Rest High on that Mountain,” with Patty Loveless … check it out now! Do it!
Vincent song 'LizaJane ' was a fun happy song too ❤❤🎉... and Patty Loveless 'jealous bone' ❤❤
He is now touring with the Eagles singing Glen Frey’s leads. He is paying such a great tribute to Glen. Heard them this past year and they were fabulous!!
The female vocalist on this one is Patty Loveless. She has a song that is about a similar situation, but has a little bit of a twist to it. You should check it out. It is called "You Don't Even Know Who I Am." Both Patty and Vince have been singing together for years. Each has their own rabbit hole to explore.
Oh thats a great one!!!
I agree Go rest High on that mountain is a must listen for you ..the older you get the more you will like our OLD COUNTRY
Vince can do it all. He fills in for members of the Eagles when they need him. Go Rest on that Mountain is a must listen to, about his brother.
Vince has one of the most beautiful voices in country music! ❤
Vince Gill is great and I love Patty Loveless (she’s singing in the background)
