For people who want all 3 starters here is a step by step guide step 1; Make a new save and make your way to Elm to pick a starter step 2; save before picking a starter, AND DON'T SAVE UNTILL YOU FINISH!! step 3; after picking a starter play till you get pokéballs step 4; catch TWO random pokémon Optional; give items to the pokémon step 5; go into the pokécenter and deposit the starter and one of the two you caught step 6; go into the change box option and change it, BUT BEFORE IT FINISHED SAVING RESET THE GAME You want to reset around the words saving gets on the screen. if you did it correctly you are now back at Elms & the starters, if you did it wrong you are at the pc delete the save and do the steps again. Optional 2; you can now save if you want, i did this so i know it's fine step 7; pick a different starter and make your way to the pc again If you did it all correctly the 1st starter and random pokémon are in your box, take them out step 8; repeat step 5, 6 and optional 2, this time deposit the two starters Again if you are at the PC after reseting you messed up and gotta start over Congrats you now have all 3 starters when picking the last remaining one
Even though im a bit younger than everyone who started their journeys in Kanto and Johto, (born in 2003 actually, so i even technically missed Hoenn) i can definitely relate to you and feel nostalgia for how mysterious and exciting new regions used to be I started Pokémon with Pokémon Platinum in 2009, even though i was only 6 years old i still vividly remember my first journey. I remember the excitement and mystery that surrounded the Gen 5 leaks and rumors, and even though its probably better that theyre gone, there is something really nostalgic about those old unofficial guides you'd see everywhere like you described, the illegitimatecy kind of added to the spectacle funnily enough. I even remember following those old middle school tall-tales, like Mew under the truck. I miss those days, it sucks kids today who started in new generations will never really have those experiences
Kids today definitely miss out on the early stages of gaming and how things really took off by word of mouth rather than the internet. They’ll never know that feeling like we do. Thank you for sharing, Prexx.

@@Roge9 two reasons. First, i already have crystal on the channel. Thats the main reason, although I plan on replaying Crystal some day since my save file got corrupt. The other reasons is that i want to run through the base games sine i did all the remakes already.
Gold is my favorite only in that it was my first experience with Gen 2. but I love crystal. my crystal save got corrupt but i do have a playthrough of it up on the channel up until Kanto. I am going to redo Crystal though, when i get to it.

a extention off the "Get all 3 starters" comments you can do this method for every pokémon and duplicate items with it (mainly get extra TMs or save money on buying TMs) here is a step by step for that step 1; give pokémon(s) [max 5] item(s) you wanna duplicate step 2; save in front off a PC preferably not facing the PC This makes it easier check if you succeeded or failed step 3; deposit the pokémon(s) in your box step 4; go and change boxes and reset the game around the time saving is on the screen If you want to duplicate a item you bought but don't want to spend the money step 2 becomes; "save in front off the shop you want to buy from If you did it correctly you now have the pokémon(s) with the item in your party and box. meaning you effectively have infinite TMs
Not gonna lie but can't wait for the crystal runthrough, that's my favourite from gen 2, I always use a growlithe and phanpy on my runs before the 1st gym battle against. Falkner. My favourite gen 2 walkthrough team till this day when I had, Arcanine, Donphan, Meganium, Dragonite, Heracross, Crobat.. Im currently doing a new playthough myself in crystal but trying to find overpowered stats with near max IVs or DVs whatever its called before gen 3. Found myself a shinny ratatta the other day randomly 😅

Started with pokemon yellow, at like 4yo but I received that game from a friend, it was in French! I wandered endlessly talking to all NPC's and slowly making progress somehow, had no idea what I was doing, had a Pidgeot level 50 before even defeating brock :) Got through rock tunnel blind, just listening to where walls are and wondering endlessly until somehow i found the exit, good times lol. But Gold was the next game I had and man was it a blast, all those tunes, new mons, thinking the red gyarados just wast a sick pokemon that had a virus, no idea what shinies were. So when I eventually stumbled upon a "sick" Flaaffy, you bet I tried to use the secret potion from Cianwood City to cure it instead of the Ampharos at the lighthouse. Didn't work tho :(. Gonna totally enjoy this playthrough now!
one last small thing about the "get all 3 starters" & "Duplicate" comment There is a chance during the process you get a pokémon clone with a super long name with a bunch off "?"'s in there, To my knowledge this isn't game breaking but do release it just to be sure if you get it in my experience it happens when you get the timing wrong and reset either to early or slightly before the fail timing
Awesome to follow this 'till the end. Thanks in advance! I spent so muuch hours in this game and I even remember the outrage when I accidentally deleted my little brothers save file. Yikes. Luckily it was quite early in the game (bug gym) so I rushed and played it to the exactly same spot with same pokemon to calm him down :D

you can find shinies before Gyrados in a past run of Gold VC i found a shiny Sandshrew in the cave, you just gotta be lucky with the 1/8000 (i always forget the exact number for the old school odds) last playthrough off Crystal i did i found a Zubat when making my way to Claire
I m gen Z so had no pokemon game as I grew up (except on an emulator) so I thought older gens were kinda crapoy, but I just discovered gen2 recently and it has amazing art. Might be my favorite style in the series
Its definitely my favorite as well. There are some issues with Gen 2 that seem a little silly, like how certain Gen 2 Pokemon are only available in Kanto and things like that, but overall, its a truly beautiful game.
You can run into shinies before red gyarados! When i was a kid I ran into a shiny ekans south of Violet city! Also, maybe not info for your stream but just as a fellow lover of this game, peobably best shiny method is the shiny gyarados/ ditto method. Some good vids on TH-cam if you're interested 😊

Fantom journey; onwards 2 a new journey with Chikorita in hand after leaving home and entering Cherrygrove city, i felt compelled to check my box and found a Totodile & Cyndaquil in there!! i have no clue how they got there, i called mom and she told me they are a present from dad. l should send him a mail thanking him when i can. after visiting prof Oak as per prof Elms request some ginger ass challenged me to a battle, could he have stolen that pokémon from Elm? on the way to Oak i found this cute looking pokémon called Senret, i for sure want to get one when i get the chance

Totodile evolves at 18, so you couldn't jump right in at lv16

Cyndaquil evolves really quickly at lv. 14, but takes the longest of the 3 starters to reach its final stage at lv. 36.

Oh wow. I’ve only ever found ONE shiny in all my playthroughs of Gen 2- the Level 8 Female Geodude. First wild shiny ever. I’ll never forget.
