    Nice job Jake. I thought I was the only one who tapped on a carb to free a stuck float. Works for injection pumps to I see. Those two tractors sure are good looking. You guys really keep them nice. Take care, See you next post.

    The roller cam turbocharged one's (last production run) were much better than earlier models. Cummins had pump problems also because of EPA fuel mandates. But if you're willing to chance it some two cycle fuel mix or transmission fluid added to your diesel fuel makes a big difference. Just trying to help.

    that motor sounded good when you hit the throttle, one of my uncles had a few cat motors in his Oliver and his Stiegers a few years back. he was a great mechcanic also. the stieger dealer had one of those motors that was a mess brand new. so they made him a deal on the tractor. they gave him all the parts, and sold it to him cheap. all i remember was he had to change the crank in it. great video Jake, im impressed with your skills. love how you take care of your tractor.

    VP44 on the 24 valve cummins is cooled and lubed by fuel also. Me and lots others use 2 cycle to add to the fuel for lubricant purpose. The best 2 cycle to use is the cheap stuff from Walmart. I put in about a half quart per 20 gallons.

    Nice! How many hours does that engine have on it? Them 3208s seem to have a bad reputation with truck guys. But any ag application seems to work good for them. I guess you either love them or hate them. Thanks for the video!

    • @jakeziegler599
      @jakeziegler599  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      burningdinosaurs thanks ya it's a love hate relationship lol. We've got about 700 on an overhaul. This is the fourth fresh engine in this tractor lol. The last rebuild didn't need overhauled but we wanted to put a flat tappet cam in it. Roller cams are horrible in these engines. And turns out the reman guys had put 2 ring Pistons in a turbo engine so we went ahead and overhauled it winter of 14-15

  • @boehmfarm4276
    @boehmfarm4276 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Sounds great Jake. Hope the fuel stays in like it should. We have a 3208 cat in a silage chopper and we are working on the radiator which you will probably see shortly. So odd question, do you know what the dimensions are of your radiator?

    • @jakeziegler599
      @jakeziegler599  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Boehm Farm thanks I've seen a video or two of that chopper. I know the radiator is specific to a white tractor. Several years ago we got a new one for it and found a place that got an exact match a lot cheaper than agco. I think the place was called effingham radiator In effingham Illinois

    Those cat v-8's put a grin on my face, despite their "bad reputation" mainly from people that didn't know how to run them..they were a good unit if they weren't used for more than what they were built for.

    • @jakeziegler599
      @jakeziegler599  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Old Iron Farming ya they ain't to bad the worst trouble we had is the roller lifters gave trouble several times. One time it cracked the block when the lifter jammed.............so when I rebuilt this engine in winter of 14-15 we put a flat lifters and cam in it

    • @oldironfarming5804
      @oldironfarming5804 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jake Ziegler Huh, good to know. Wasn't aware that it was an issue with the 3208's. Though I have seen a few motors shear the key on the roller lifters and spin them.

    • @oldironfarming5804
      @oldironfarming5804 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Where did you find the cam and flat lifters? Some models had them?

    • @jakeziegler599
      @jakeziegler599  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Old Iron Farming that's what happens is the little crappy cheap clips cat used to keep them from turning breaks then the lifter turns sideways and chews the cam up. Only the 250hp+ models had roller lifters. The 225hp 3208 would be the best because it had flat lifters. We put the 225 hp flat cam and lifters in our 250 engine and there was no difference on the dyno. We ordered a new cam from cat

    • @jakeziegler599
      @jakeziegler599  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @Capjohnsonmike
      @Capjohnsonmike 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Landmark cattle ya buddy they're throw away. Some people will bore them out and machine liners and bigger pistons to throw in. But sometimes that can cost more then the engine...they're phenomenal motors though.

    • @wrenchbender01
      @wrenchbender01 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Capjohnson.mike in my experience they were referred to as throw away because they are a nonliner engine.
      The cost of getting them bored out was expensive due to the weight and V block configuration. But I might be wrong.

    I acquired a distaste for working on cat stuff after helping my neighbor put a cat skid loader back together last winter for one of his customers. It was in pieces after the guy that started the job passed away from a heart attack. It had a cat branded Perkins in it that had the pin fall out of the grenade in the oil pan and getting info on it from Fabick was like pulling teeth. I don't know why all their service info is such a secret. It pretty well took Caterpillar off my prospective equipment list. I know deere isn't your favorite but at least you can look up parts online and get books from them or the internet fairly easily.

    • @jakeziegler599
      @jakeziegler599  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @brianv5626
      @brianv5626 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't think the predecessors to the 3208 were called "3160's or 3150's". I believe the correct name is "1160" and "1150" I owned several 1160's with a much better (oil lubed) injector pump.

    Jake, would it be possible for you to give me some guidance? I’m working on a cat 3208 that’s been sitting for about four or five years.
    The fuel shut off solenoid appears to be working fine, however, the little thing that it pushes in the top of the injector pump was stuck in the down position, I did get it moving up and down but it does not feel that it’s spring loaded in either direction. When I pull up on it it stays up when I push down on it it stays down, is that the way it’s supposed to respond or should it be spring loaded in one direction or the other? Also, I was thinking about taking that top plate off like you did in cleaning it out and freeing things up. What are your recommendations and where should I start?
    As a sidenote, I’m not a mechanic just mechanically inclined…
    Thanks,
    Mark

    • @jakeziegler599
      @jakeziegler599  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no spring it’s just weighted to open when the fuel shut off pulls up. Sounds like it just needs taken apart and cleaned up. If I were u I would do everything I did in the video. Clean it up and put new seals in it. Then it should work fine. That little flapper should move freely tho

    • @TheMarkSeguin
      @TheMarkSeguin ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jakeziegler599 thank you so much for the guidance, is there a particular seal kit that I would need to ask for at caterpillar that would provide just those gaskets like you used in the video? We have a cat 3208 engine that won't start, we have hand pumped fuel and bled each injector till fuel leaks out. When we crank engine we get no smoke or very little smoke from exhaust.
