Thanks so much for explaining detail.
I have the same problem now.
two month no had worked engine in winter.
later I wanted to start engine but never moved.
I opened head and saw full of mud rust top on the piston.
where is the problemm still I'm looking for.
My Marine 3208's turbo charger is seems almost the same as yours.
    Rusted inside.
I hope my problem is turbo, I will try as your showing.
    many thanks from Marmaris

Would this be caused from not changing anodes regularly?

Overall, how do you find the Cat 3208 engine?
I'm looking at a vessel that has those engines and wanted another opinion from an owner.
Interesting method for finding the leak, it's also interesting that Cat techs didn't have this method of eliminating systems on the engine.

Hi , you need to find out first where the coolant is going, have you checked to see if your oil has water in it or the coolant will be going out your exhaust. Unless you have a external leaks.

No water in oil and it's not leaking anywhere
