I believe this is the best reaction to this performance that I have seen and I have seen A LOT of them. Thank you for pointing out the brilliance of Elvis as he conducts the band and orchestra. People have always overlooked his skills in production and arrangement of his music. His voice is a beautiful instrument as well and he knew how to use it perfectly. You would enjoy Bridge Over Troubled Water and Just Pretend from 1970 LasVegas. ❤❤❤

There is no one else like Elvis... before or since. I grew up listening to Elvis. My sister is 10 years older than me and she used to take me to his concerts. It was wonderful! The last one we attended was when I was 18 or 19 years old and he gave me a scarf (and spoke to me also ... at the stage). I never tire of listening to his music. I especially love his gospel songs. We used to go early and find out what hotel he was at. We'd call around and say that we had flowers to deliver to Elvis. If he wasn't there they'd say that but when we found the right one they would say that he wasn't accepting flowers .. so jackpot ... we'd take off to that hotel. We'd knock on other guests back patio doors and they would usually let us go thru their room to get inside. But once we got to the right floor we'd get chased out by his security.
I have one picture of him getting off his airplane. But I didn't have a camera with a zoom lens at the time and it isn't so great.

Oh man. I have watched a number of reactions to this performance and yours just might be my favorite. Your analysis is top notch but what did it for me is that I can tell you experienced the song the way I did when I first watched it, and still do nearly every time. It was so genuine. I love how at the end you had to get up and walk away from it. Too electrifying! You had visible reactions at all the right times. The power and the feeling are almost overwhelming, aren't they? This is a guy who gets it lol. Thank you.

Elvis was very patriotic. This performance went out to the world and even his suit reflected his passion for his country. The selection of this trilogy was a tribute to the American Civil War. He chose his musicians and singers and they all loved him. He was part off them and he knew their talents was the whole package. My heart goes out to you and Elvis every time I hear this tribute to our country.

This song was about the South initially, then the North who used Battle Hymn of the Republic during the Civil War. The third song was a Bahamian lullaby which the slaves sang to their babies. He combined all three to make a point and always loved this song because he was so Patriotic and loved his Country so. Thanks so much. A beautiful reaction. Especially when your glasses flew off with your headphones. 😂😂 That’s what Elvis tends to do to people. Expect the unexpected. ❤❤

I love your comment Elvis = plutonium! Brilliant in depth reaction. Like any diehard, 50+ years Elvis fan, I've seen this clip many many times and it never fails to be awesome and overwhelming. To think some people say he can't sing!!!! I've watched classical music trained reactors marvel that his was a natural, untrained voice. Opera singers like Placido Domingo, Kiri Te Kanawa and Bryn Terfel have all said his was the voice they most admire. As a contrast and to show how Elvis tackles many genres so effortlessly try some bluesy Elvis with 'Like a Baby' or gospel with 'Peace in the Valley'.

  • @clboelcke
    @clboelcke 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

Hi! You are a wonderful reactor. I appreciate the knowledge you have of music and how you pick up on all the Elvis nuances. He was an amazing vocalist, musician, producer, conductor, performer, and friend to all of his band mates. I have heard numerous videos of them saying how special and delightful it was to perform with him. James Burton, arguably one of the best guitarist, has such wonderful things to say about playing with Elvis-he was his favorite gig of all time.
I would recommend something a bit different-not many reactions to this song-“New Orleans” from the movie King Creole. Elvis was young, 24 years old, and he shows off the most amazing talent for jazz singing. He insisted on backup singers, too-before him there were not many making a living singing oohs and ahhs-he made that the mainstream.
Also, I just can’t help believing; Just Pretend, Poke Salad Annie (for some fun), You Have Me a Mtn., and you must watch the Milton Berle performance of Hound Dog-it’s the one that got everyone so upset.😂

Great reaction! The American Trilogy is three songs, hence we get trilogy, about the American North ("The Battle Hymn of the Republic") and South (“Dixie"), and a African spiritual (“All My Trials”). This song vividly captures the complex landscape of American history and culture as it was a racial reconciliation song, sort of speak and Elvis hit it out of the park! Elvis Presley set a world record on this January night as he was seen by over 1.5 billion people all over the world, in more than 40 countries via satellite. This was the first time anything like this was ever heard of. Keep up the good work!❤

THE RUNWAY from the STAGE: Thanks to the genius of producer/director Marty Pasetta, he told Tom Parker he wanted to build a ramp for Elvis to walk out onto & Parker said no. Pasetta explained that it would be 8 ft. wide & Elvis could stay in the middle or go to the left or to the right if he wanted to because Pasetta knew how important the audience was to Elvis. Parker still said no. Fortunately, Pasetta was able to meet w-Elvis & he explained exactly what he told Parker. Fortunately again, Elvis overrode Parker & told Pasetta to build the ramp. Paseta told Elvis he wanted him to lose some weight & Elvis did lose 25 lbs. Elvis then hugged Pasetta & said you are one of the few people who has been totally honest w-me. Without that ramp the concert would have been very different if Elvis did not have the opportunity to get in close touch w-the audience. This was a charity concert for the Kui Lee Cancer Fund. Elvis bought his own ticket for $1,000. It was expected to raise $25,000 but it raised $75,000.
Trilogy is a medley of three uniquely American pieces: “Dixie,” (dixie are the states down south in the U.S.); “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” a marching hymn of the Union Army during the American Civil War; and “All My Trials,” a Bahamian (people of the Bahamas) lullaby related to African American spirituals sung by protesting folksingers of the 1950s.

After watching your reaction to this, I had to subscribe because it was so genuine. Please watch Elvis do what now my love from the Aloha from Hawaii. I’ve loved Elvis for 67 years and I was blessed to have seen him in concert many times as a teenager. He’s always remain the greatest of my heroes. I loved that man like a family member and I’ve loved him ever since I’ve been five years old. I don’t even know what life would be like with Elvis, not in it because he never left me. I’ll shoot some more shout out to you on some ideas, don’t know if you’ve ever seen how great thou art Rapid City 1977 live concert it would be his last filmed performance. He does not look well but when I tell you when I see him sing that song it’s beyond imaginable how ill he was, and he knew it, and you could feel it, and you could see it through his words and expressions, and his passion of how he did that particular rendition of that song. God bless you and thank you young man for making my day reaction really touched my heart. Thank you.

The North represents the Battle Hymn of the Republic, Dixieland, represents the South and the last is a Bahamian lullaby representing death and loss during the Civil War over slavery. This version is better than the recorded track because the flute is missing on the album version.

I'm 58... really never "listened" to Elvis until I was 54. Holy crap, I had the same reaction for about 2 years as you did in this video. I'm getting used to greatness I guess. It's just so good. Just like Robert Plant said, he was just so cooooool.
Lots of tears, emotion and amazement. Now, I want to sing his songs.

I never mind interruptions when timed appropriately, with intelligent commentary. You covered those bases very well. His relationship with his back up musicians, and singers, was based on true respect for their abilities. If you haven’t, watch some of his rehearsal, and impromptu gospel videos. The reactions between him, JD, and the other performers, show the love.
    Thank you for sharing!

Wonderful reaction & analysis. American Trilogy has always been one of my favorite Elvis songs; and especially this performance of it. Can't even count how many times I've watched/listened to this video from the Aloha From Hawaii Satellite Broadcast. It's such a powerful, emotive song with each parts of the medley hitting your heart & soul. The only downside of it for me is the line: "So hush little baby don't you cry, you know you're daddy's bound to die..." Elvis's tragic death occurring just a short 4 years later leaving little Lisa Marie Presley without the father who loved her and she him so very much.

Thank you, and yes I hadn't considered the poignancy of that line retrospectively. Very sad. Elvis dying is actually one of my earliest memories.
