I was bleesed to see him twice in concert.. I'm a NYC girl first time i saw Elvis in concert was Madison Square Garden i don't think i took a breath or blinked the entire concert He was absolutely breathtaking!! He commanded that stage He was larger than life!! Next i saw him was Nassau Colliseum in Long Island I had 4 row seats and I was overwhelmed by his looks talent and stage presence he towered over everyone on that stage one of the most amazing amazing thing I've ever seen and I i never will forget!!
As Nancylascari said....He said "Please Release Me" and they started I Can't Stop Loving You. He didnt get mad, he got even. Lol I absolutely love when he looks at The Sweets when he sings. There was so much fun, love & respect for one another on that stage. Thank you for keeping Elvis's music and memory alive. We love him so much! TCB ⚡👑🌹
Elvis had called for a different song 'Please Release Me' to be sung. His band was pranking him, probably a pay back, and started playing this one. So he threw water and gave them looks all the while not missing a beat. Fun!
He announces the song as "Please Release Me" and the band does "Can't Stop Loving You" but Elvis doesn't miss a beat --just went right into the song that he didn't know he was about to do a second before. That's perfection.
My parents weren’t cool enough to like Elvis. I was 12 when he died and only knew him from the the movies. I happened to be driving through Memphis returning to Chicago from a camping trip with my family on August 16. It was a very hot day in the streets suddenly became crowded with people and traffic stopped. My mom turned on the radio and said “oh for fucks sake, Elvis died.“ I thought oh all this hoopla is for the cute guitar man in the movies so when I got home, they were showing him a lot on the news, and when I saw him on stage as himself, my jaw dropped. And so did my first egg. I’ve been obsessed with him ever since. and my parents thought it was just a phase HA!
Speaking of generational, my great-grandchild, who is in the NiCUi a 190 days listened to him. That makes 3 generations in my family! He serenated at my daughter's memorial a love song from her husband to her and final note to serenade to the otherside
i love this one so much! and i LOVE how you speak about elvis and your understanding of him! elvis was always about having fun fun for him fun with the band & backups and always fun with his fans! they always had such a grueling tour schedule in-between his vegas engagements every yr that they always kept it fun with on stage pranks & such but they & elvis never missed a beat even in the midst of hijinx like here elvis calls out the next song to the band but glenn on piano launches into a different song to try and trip elvis up (impossible but fun to try) hense the water lol with elvis there was no sleeping on the job you may get a face full of water hahaha ~ jerry scheff elvis' bass player 1969-1977 he was infamous for throwing water but always in fun thank you so much for this one mike!!
Elvis and the band used to play pranks on each other, Elvis says Please release me and then Glen on the piano plays i can't stop loving you, Elvis doesn't fault and goes straight in to it, this is why he throws water at glen and is laughing and saying you got the easy part man! God Bless him Such an entertainer
Ditto to what others have said about his having asked for a different song-- I love seeing how good natured he is about their pranking him, and how he doesn’t miss a beat- he just sings the song. Your comments on how Elvis is like the musical conduit is how I feel- he just embodied music of every genre. I saw an interview by his drummer Ronnie Tutt and after years of playing with other artists he said that his all time favorite to play for was Elvis. He said “Elvis trusted me and let me play whatever I wanted and he just went with it, and loved it.” He talked about how when you played for Elvis you got to play music from every single genre-rock, country, blues, gospel, jazz, opera, etc. He was a uniquely talented man with an incredible generosity toward all the other musicians. He just loved making music with other talented people.
Some great comments from you sir, Nice, Thanks. He's got another version of this a couple of years earlier. 1970. Even more powerful still. Really worth a look at. Even just for yourself. Or us. Ha. Thanks again. 😀
Yea, you got the beginning when he called out Please Release Me & why hearing that's important in understanding the water throwing. But notice that quick little irritated look before he smiled. Yes, everything he did was authentic & real, just like holding a lyric sheet on stage to help him w-a new song he was unsure of. He could do just about anything no one else could do because he was real, not forced or put on & how they all worked amazingly well together is absolutely incredible. Thanks so much for this.
Wow. So great. Thank u for reacting to this. I love seeing Elvis move around the stage, smiling while he sings. His stage presence and his vocals are so captivating. We❤️U Elvis! There's so many songs to suggest but I'll list a couple. "Just Pretend" 1970 Vegas "20 Days 20 Nights" Rehearsal and then the performance in Vegas "Trying To Get To You" 68 Comeback Special "You Gave Me A Mountain" "I'll Remember You" Both from Aloha concert That's just a pinch of suggestions. There's so much including his Gospel music, his 50's tv show performances, movie songs....my goodness there are so many..... Also, the 1970 performance of "I Can't Stop Loving You" is my go to when I wanna hear this song. Great vocals, great moves. Definitely check that one out if you can.
So many wonderful songs. 1970 songs 1) The wonder of you 2) Just Pretend 3) In the Ghetto 4) I just can't help believing 5) Polk Salad Annie ... 6) And the next step is Love 7) Mary in the morning & if you like Oh Danny Boy, it's not live but the recording he does is beautiful. 8) Solitaire ...... Enjoy you doing Elvis 😄
His band played a joke on him ,he said please release me ,and they played this song instead ,but look how Elvis handled it ,went right into it ,he was just the greatest
You quickly become one of my favorite Elvis reactors! Keep doing more Elvis, please! I would recommend “trying to get to you” as from the 68 comeback special
I will never forget the day Elvis died.. I was 10 and my Mother lost her mind almost.. she went into mourning... it was insane.. Lord knows I love some of the bands and singers of my era but I would never lose my mind over an entertainer dying the way my Mom did.. And my Mom wasn't the only one. facts.. many ppl lost it when Elvis died. Crazy. He had that much impact during that generation.
I think this is my second comment. I love your type of your reactions to Elvis. I’m 66 now but I did see Elvis in The Las Vegas Hilton on August 24, 1974 Dinner Show. Regardless, I think a great reaction would be a very moving song called “MAMA LIKED THE ROSES”. If you get an opportunity I’d love to hear your insight into this song. If you ever would like to get any of my insight into Elvis feel free to do so. I did see five of his concerts. Thank you. Take care.
Glen (on piano) was obviously playing a prank on Elvis, because Elvis announced the song title & Glen straight away launched into something totally different. This performance shows just how professional Elvis was when it came to his singing, as within seconds he was already singing the new song, which had a totally different emotional vibe to it …. He called Please Release Me & Glen played I Can’t Stop Loving You. The musicians were either in on it with Glen, or they manage to switch just as swiftly, & ditto for the back up singers. All of these guys worked very closely together & rehearsed together, so they were all very in tune with one another. But Elvis wasn’t going to let Glen get off without a bit of pay-back. The one thing the musicians would say about Elvis, if there was ever a bit of a mix up on stage, or a deliberate prank, Elvis Never mentioned it once the concert had ended, & if someone apologised for something that happened on stage, Elvis would just shrug it off. I’m a New Zealander, living in NZ, but I spent many years living in England.
He was looking at and joking with one of his singers who he was sleeping with. Love the performance of this song. This tour was maybe 4-6 weeks after his wife walked out and left him.
The firsts words you hear Elvis say to the band, are "Release Me", meaning "Let's do "Please Release Me". Glen D Hardin opens with his piano, and Elvis then glides into "I Can't Stop Loving You!" They're such a good band they re-arrange in a flash, though Elvis does do a little guiding on their harmony whilst they're fully catching up! Nevertheless, Elvis stiched them up well and one detects laughter from all the performers on stage, not just Elvis. Glen D Hardin ,the one who played that piano intro, perhaps got his back on Elvis very subtly, because Elvis fooled him again by sipping some water and without missing a beat, sending the remaining glassful Glen's way! Bad luck to Glen for being so near the water stand! As for what you watch next ...if you want to see Elvis in his element, in his pureness, then perhaps "How Great Thou Art" from either 1972 or even 1974 or 1977. Those demonstrate how the the inspirational or, sacred songs are truly sung and felt.
Just love watching Elvis - please react to I Just Can't Help Believin (live 1970), Polk Salad Annie (live 1970), You've Lost That Loving Feeling (live 70), Sylvia, Heart of Rome, Kentucky Rain, In The Ghetto (live 1970), The Wonder of You (live 70), What'd Say (from Viva Las Vegas), Where No One Stands Alone (with his daughter Lisa Marie), City By Night, I Need your Love Tonight, Such A Night - there are so many these are just off the top of my head all are great songs and performances 👑⚡💛
I was at this performance at Hampton Rds. Virginia. It was so fun, and his band and singers all cracked up all through the concert it was a merry time and he was in a fun mood. It was packed full of songs, and interestingly enough he stopped right in the middle and gave worship to Jesus, with a song called "Sweet Sweet Spirit" which he lets the men sing and he just stood their and looked up, it was very touching and proved his deep faith in God. As he often said, " I am not the king of Anything, that is only the one King Jesus Christ". He was a legend for ever. Thanks, Mary PS He won 3 gammys for his gospel music.
Hello Mike and thank you for another super video to the man himself Elvis. Again so cool to hear your thoughts and to find out you are in NZ! Any Elvis performance live is worth re looking at and this one was an excellent recommendation.
Such amazing attention to detail !!! Thank you so much Mike...you are greatly appreciated. I could listen to you react to Elvis music all day. Thank you again for keeping his legacy alive..he deserves it.🌻
Hello, thank you so much sharing. When it comes to calling Elvis the King of Rock and Roll, that was started early in his career, and was rejected by Elvis. He named other rock icons, and stated that, 'There is only one King'. I prefer the designation made on him as, "The Greatest Entertainer of the 20th Century". As to this particular performance and Elvis throwing water, there is a longer clip. At the beginning Elvis clearly asks for "Please Release Me", but the band plays the different song. Elvis doesn't miss a beat, but starts off perfectly with the change.
The drummer was Ronnie Tutt. Excellent drummer who, I believe, was the first to use the double kick drums that later became a staple for hard rock bands.
Hi mate, great reviews you and your analysis, sounds like you have a Midlands accent I'm an elvis expert not just elvis but I'm a big music nut Listen to his gospel recordings there incredible Subscribed 👍
New subscriber here & big Elvis fan. Had seen a few of your other Elvis reactions & really enjoyed them. Irrespective of whether your male or female, I think the one word that describes Elvis best is Captivating. It's impossible to not be drawn in by Elvis's obvious love of singing, his authenticity & the emotion he puts into all of his songs; add in dancing, always with a ready smile & his good humor & sincerity and how can one possibly not be captivated. Truly a unique once-in-a-lifetime entertainer & vocalist. Song suggestions: "Polk Salad Annie;" from "That's The Way It Is" (1970;) "An American Trilogy;" from 1973 Hawaii Satellite concert; "The Stand-up Medley from 1968 Comeback Special;" "Never Been To Spain" from Elvis On Tour documentary 1972; and a few from Elvis's movies, "Return To Sender;" "Jailhouse Rock" and "Trouble." Great reaction; enjoying your channel.
I’m not sure if you’ve done “ In the Ghetto “ A very subdued Elvis for a song he could relate too growing up in abject poverty. I’ve seen Black reactors and others literally have to stop the song and take a moment because they relate to it so much they get overcome. The words are so powerful. It’s the 1970 Las Vegas live version. 😅❤
Watching this performance.. he's just having fun.. and he's amazing. lol.. His voice is just so great. His charisma ... his stage presence.. the man just had IT.
I don’t know whether you’ve ever reacted to how great thou art live Rapid City 1977 approximately 6 to 8 weeks prior to his death. It was perhaps up there with one of his most phenomenal performances. It was his last filmed live performance or have you seen bossa nova baby from the movie fun in Acapulco funny that you mentioned that he is this multi generational entertainer, my son who is now 36 has been to Graceland numerous times and my grandchild who is now six just loves Elvis Presley . We’re saving up our money. She always says cause she wants to say hi to Elvis at Graceland. A true hero never dies. He only grows mythically bigger in death, he is such a blessing. Thank you for your reaction. God bless you. Reason that Elvis threw the water at the piano player was because he said to them let’s do the song. Please release me. The band just happened to start a totally different song and through him off…look at his face, he goes like OK I’m gonna get you for that one. That’s why he threw the water and giggled.
Elvis threw water on the piano player for starting a different song than he called for. Elvis and his band joked around alot - but he did not miss a beat - amazing!

like here elvis calls out the next song to the band but glenn on piano launches into a different song to try and trip elvis up (impossible but fun to try) hense the water lol
with elvis there was no sleeping on the job
you may get a face full of water hahaha

Do Polk Salad Annie, both 1970 and 1972 for two quite contrasting versions, equally as good and Never Been To Spain from 1972
Patch It Up, is another great performance!

Elvis threw water on the piano player for starting a different song than he called for. Elvis and his band joked around alot - but he did not miss a beat - amazing!

I still hate to know he's still.not with us. So sad.
I dont know if anyone has told you but the band was getting back at Elvis in this vidoe,They constantly played tricks on eachother, Elivs tells them before singing a diffrent songbut they start play this,Thats why Elvis threw the water and was laughing, They were always joking around!
This is entertaining but far from the best version of the song. His best versions were in 1969, also 1970 from That's The Way It Is and also Madison Square Garden in 1972. Check those out.
Will do!
Did any Elvis videos get blocked?
Yeah, waiting for the latest to be cleared (fingers crossed!)
They talk about j bonham from led zep a great drummer probably the best they say but i tell u what R Tutt is brilliant
