Solid Rock has been a true inspiration for me over the last two years. I have enjoyed your no nonsense explanations and discoveries as they happened. No BS, no 'Experts', just this is what I've found works (in just 40yrs of doing!) and let's try this.. Refreshing, genuine .. Just keep well in these trying times , all of the family. Carl from Aus.
Every now and then I get itchy to try to grind a spindle. Then I usually think about all the ways I could screw it up worse and back out. One of these days I will have watched you do this stuff enough I will get enough confidence I have gleaned enough tips and tricks from your videos to do the job and have it come out right. :-)
The last year+ wasn't productive at all in the shop for me, this gives me "sparks" of inspiration to get back there and get back at it... You always come with great insights on how to get the last little detail right, well explained also... Nice clean parts!!! Hope you're all doing great and staying safe....
Hi Pierre, We have a really nice project coming up soon after we catch up a bit on orders that I think many will like. I am really excited about it and believe it well be the nicest project so far. Steve
Thanks Rick, We are really close. Last piece going to heat treat and deep freeze today. The lock down is making things a little difficult but if things go right we should have your comparator very soon. Steve
wow.. once more makers find your channel you are gonna be big! fabulous! How can I get some of those clamp jaws you used and made in your last video.. plus any of the accessories? I am not a machinist but I am a tinkerer... and love to make all kinds of things these would be great additions to my square vice.. thanks for all the nifty tricks and ideas you pass down stream to us "other" folk.. carry on!
Thank you for the kind words. We should have should have some of these items soon. The lock down in Michigan is making it a little harder though. Steve
@@SolidRockMachineShopInc yeah.. it is really making it hard on very one.. But God willing this will pass soon.. we may be able to save some of the summer.. Thanks my brother.
Hi Barry, We will get to it in the near future. We have to focus on getting some product out now. After that we will get to that and another nice tool as well. Steve
Hi Steve. I notice in your intro that you have a red colored bed surface grinder. I am looking for one for my small shop. Do you mind telling me what brand it is? Thanks
Yes, you can. In plunge milling which I do often you have to be careful the end mill does not pull out of the collect some and cuts deeper than intended. Steve
I am not a big fan of misters, they put to much stuff in the air that I would not like to breath. Many of the coatings on carbide inserts do not like coolant and run better dry. For some coatings to work they need high temperatures and cooling many time cause micro fractures on the insert leading to insert failure. Steve
Nice work Steve!
ATB, Robin
Glad you enjoyed it.

By the time you were done, Brian, you'd have a spindle that could grind the ID of a subway tunnel.
Hi Brian,
You know we would be more that happy to help you out. We are just a phone call away.
Steve
very good video..thanks for your time
You are welcome.
That was cool, I learn from every video of yours that I see. I will definitely use your step over technique next time I have to machine a channel.
Thanks.
Great video Steve . I will have to get a muffler for my air spindle as well . Great tip about side stepping the cutter . Cheers .
Thanks Max, The muffler is nice, you won't regret getting one.

Great tid bits of info. What ever became of the V-block part 2 video?
Hi Barry,

Cool setup
Thanks Craig,
Steve
Grate job as always
Thanks Joseph.
Steve
What is that spindle attachment called? Great video by the way!
That is a NSK Planet 600.
Steve
Thank you.
Steve where do you get your air spindle grinding stones from? Great video as always. LLAP.
I bought it through CB Dekorne cbdekorne.com/contact in Grand Rapids Michigan.
Steve
Many thanks.

It is a 6x18 Acer.

Thanks!

Can you plunge mill this slot and clean it up with another endmill?
Yes, you can. In plunge milling which I do often you have to be careful the end mill does not pull out of the collect some and cuts deeper than intended.
Steve
do you not like to use a coolant mister when channeling
I am not a big fan of misters, they put to much stuff in the air that I would not like to breath. Many of the coatings on carbide inserts do not like coolant and run better dry. For some coatings to work they need high temperatures and cooling many time cause micro fractures on the insert leading to insert failure.

👍stay well everyone!
You too James.
Steve
Just curious, but why do you spin the part and the grinder in the same direction?
It has many of the same benefits of climb milling on the mill.
Steve
@@SolidRockMachineShopInc - I would never have imagined there was such a thing as climb grinding. Something else I need to do homework on, thanks!
@@SolidRockMachineShopInc interesting, I've always heard to turn them opposite for finish. Thx for the reply.
cool
Thanks.
