    Man, Castle Ravenloft is such a hot, unholy mess! :D Don't get me wrong, I love it and it is an extremely cool and intricately designed castle. But as a new DM who just started CoS, just thinking about guiding/narrating the party through this castle with its countless interconnected rooms, secret doors and verticality is giving me nightmares.
    Your video helped a lot in getting a better feel for the place though, so thank you very much! I will come back to it once I actually have to prepare the castle.

    I might be just 1 or 2 sessions away from my party getting to Ravenloft for the first time in the adventure... and its the finale. This video is a Dawn Father gift upon a lost DM soul such as mine. Thank you so much for this

    You're on to something here. I'm DMing this to a big group and this is helping a LOT. Add some production value, script it out and add a bit more flair and you can get featured in some very cool places. I would love to see more DnD dungeons like this and the community would definitely chip in.

    Yes, same. I'm running I6 Ravenloft using Shadowdark for a couple guys in this transitional home we live in and I was wracking my brain on how the castle works. I'm feeling way more confident now. We need this game to look forward to. Thanks again.

    I'm excited to run CoS pretty soon with my group. It'll be a long time before they arrive at Ravenloft but i'll definitely use this as a guide when they do. I really enjoyed the video, as well as the idea for using Minecraft for the map layouts! I hope you make more D&D map guides with the Minecraft format again because this is outstanding great work.

But something went wrong with my Minecraft on my Xbox, and I lost the whole world, I had a lot of stuff on their too, but I got the newer version now, and I’m probably going to recreate it, it’s most likely going to be better but still. Each square on the official maps are 10'. Most rooms in here are way too small, maybe this was done on purpose. I noticed the servants upstairs room (K34) is not there at all and the stairs leading up to it go straight to the base of the Heart Tower. Fun to walk around in there.

    Not bad at all. Could use a few props/some decor detailing to illustrate things (prop carriage, proper ground types, that kind of stuff), but this is really good at conveying the sense of scale and your descriptions of the events at each area is well-appreciated!

    My friend and I are currently building Castle Ravenloft in a 1;1 scale on our survival world, meaning that 1 square=10ft, and 1 Minecraft block= about 1m, so basically 1 square=4 blocks. We chose to build this in survival because I said to him our survival world needed something cool, so he suggested this and I agreed. So since it’s my world I’ve been spending about 6-12 hours a day playing minecraft attempting to terraform the area into a flat area so we can build, including tearing down the hills and filling in the rivers, today we started construction on the walls and they’re approximately 36 blocks high, between gathering the cobblestone, smelting it, and crafting stone bricks(because it’s less of an eye sore) and building the wall and the terraforming, we estimate that this very well might take months, and I want to kill myself from the boredom of terraforming so like if anyone has bedrock edition of minecraft please let me know because we need help

      At one time there were conversion tools for moving java worlds to bedrock worlds. Since Joe Hills already built this in the free to download Hermitcraft season 5, it might be possible to get it, convert it, and walk around it to get an idea just how big, complex, and daunting it really is

    • @sirdimos1
      @sirdimos1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know this is old and I may be too late but 1 square in D&D is 5 feet. So you may be a little off on your Minecraft build.

Production has halted for several months, life tends to get in the way sometimes. But once we start up again, the next step will be moving to decoration

    I see some old as well as new comments so I'll comment too if this can help anyone. I'll issue a warning to other DMs out there AGAINST using Minecraft DURING D&D sessions. If it helps you prepare then good, it was useful. The trap being that Minecraft will never capture the atmosphere and "spookyness/despair" of Barovia therefore your player's idea of the whole place might get hurt. I had a DM who once used minecraft to show us around... It ruined it for me (although it may be different for your players, I'm only saying there's a risk) because I couldn't use my imagination anymore to picture things since I was seeing them and frankly, that DM meant good but was a poor MC builder.
    Now I don't say it's impossible to build something that renders justice to the whole module and atmosphere, it's just pretty damn hard. If you're not using Conquest reforged and aren't as good a builder as Viggoman,Dukonred and the like, I suggest you don't use it for D&D games.
    Food for thought.
