Yay!!! You read this month. Sometimes that’s all that matters. For about 2 months, I’ve only been reading mangas and just started reading the novel format again. I made myself feel guilty for only reading mangas but thought, “why?” I’m reading.
So the short version is good job. :) The amount doesn’t matter and neither does the format.

You being real is exciting to me lol. It is one of the main reasons I watch you and have consistently for years on both channels. You don't pretend and make me feel normal 🙃 I have been in what seems like a never ending slump. I keep picking things up and never finishing. You are not alone and will get through it!

The point of the perspective in The Secret Life of Bees is to highlight the discomfort around racism, to highlight that, as white people, we could not possibly understand the true discrimination. By writing from Lily’s perspective of her time with incredible black women such as August and Rosaleen and the acts of discrimination and injustice that are done unto them, we’re made aware that, though we may witness them and be enraged by them, like Lily, we will never experience them and therefore can never /truly/ know just how abhorrent it is. Sue Monk Kidd, being a white woman, only knows how to write from a white perspective, but she used it to frame the racism of the 1960s without stepping on any toes or making any assumptions, and for that reason I really enjoy the perspective in the book!

The same thing happens to me with audiobooks through my library! They all come up and the same time. I recommend accepting them and then renewing them once they're up and try to get through them that way.

After a crappy day at work your videos makes me smile!!! I love your unpopular opinions because we have such a similar taste in books. I have been back into reading since June and had my biggest month with 14 books read in August - the majority being your recommendations! You make my little book nerd heart smile. Thank you for being fabulous!!

reading slumps are REAL! I might have a month like this one because I read so much last month, it was overwhelming towards the end.
I mentioned in my Aug Wrap up that I enjoyed a handful of the books I read last month. All The Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood (Controversial book, tbh), Helium by Rudy Francisco & The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo.

Hello from Colombia ! . I read 5 books in August ( One in Spanish , 4 in English )
*El Prisionero del Cielo (The Prisoner of Heaven) by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. I strongly recommend The Cemetery of Forgotten Books saga. Soon I'll be starting the four and last installment.
*First time reads: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix (*THE BEST I'VE READ*) , and the Half-Blood Prince.
      *Crazy Rich Asians.

Good luck getting out of your slump! One of my favorite books of August was The Truth Commission by Susan Juby--so funny and (for the most part) realistic teenagers, so much depth about friendship and family and the value of truth and how that relates to art. I feel like it was the perfect balance of page-turner, important topics, and great characters!

For The Count, the book ending and the movie ending are very different so actually you DON'T know what's going to happen which makes it so much more exciting! It's such a great book. I was entranced by it when I read it. (Also in the same edition as you. I just love the Folio books.)

I had a serious slump in the spring and have had brief run-ins with slumps for months after. The slump does pass, however. Definitely read what interests you in the moment and don’t worry about quotas. I try to read at least a few classics every year but this year I’ve yet to read any. I don’t want to risk the slump demon settling in again.

Sometimes reading a small amount of books is a great thing! I participated in the N.E.W.T.s readathon that was going on all month long in August. I didn't get to all the books I had planned to but I read way more than I usually do a month-
The Gracekeepers by Kirsty Logan (Listened)
The Sky People (Lords of Creation, #1) by S.M. Stirling
Monstress, Vol. 2: The Blood (Monstress, #2) by Marjorie Liu
The Lucky Dress by Aimee Brown
No Mercy by Sherrilyn Kenyon (Listened)
Doctor Strange, Vol. 4: Mr. Misery by Jason Aaron
Memoirs of a Dragon Hunter by Katie MacAlister
    Retribution by Sherrilyn Kenyon (Listened)
I'd Rather Be Reading: A Library of Art for Book Lovers by Guinevere de la Mare,
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer (Listened)
The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern
Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire
Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide (Pottermore Presents, #3) by J.K. Rowling
Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists (Pottermore Presents, #2) by J.K. Rowling
Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies (Pottermore Presents, #1) by J.K. Rowling
My favorites were The Guernsey and Literary Potato Peel Pie Society, Retribution, I'd Rather Be Reading and the Hogwarts short stories.

Don't worry! I have also been in a slump all summer. I just feel a lot of what I am picking up is just ok and the most anticipated reads this summer have really let me down. I only read 6 this month, although I finished a Sanderson which is impressive in itself. I started another 8 and am quite far through them all but my slump has meant I am taking a long time to finish any of them. They are all good, but only the one 700+ page classic is wowing me so far. This is not what I need in a slump. Hopefully will finish them this month as well as the books on my September tbr :/ we will see.

I actually had quite a few 5 star books for August! "Firebolt" by Adrienne Woods, "Fata Morgana" by Steven R Boyett & Ken Mitchroney, "180 Seconds" by Jessica Park, "When" by Victoria Laurie, "In the Middle of Somewhere" by Roan Parrish, and the Audible Original version of "Northanger Abbey" by Jane Austen. :)

I do this a lot and I don't loose my place in line but it I want multiple books and them not to be checked out at the same time I'll put the second one on hold just so I have time to listen/read both. Reread the confessions of georgia nicholson books this past month, a rollicking ride, even if some parts haven’t aged as well as others (lesbophobia and sooooo much fatphobia); so I’m kind of out of my slump, but the second most light-hearted and fast-paced books I have are harry potter, so this month I’m rereading those and dipping my toes into sort of quirky essay collections on specific cultural periods/movements (60s and 70s los angeles with eve babitz’s slow days, fast company; also a compilation called goth: the undead subculture, which I semi-seriously picked up because it was on sale)

Lady Susan is not one of my favorites by Jane Austen, however I really liked that she tries to write a main character so different from the others.
The Count is amazing (as I said before) ABS the revenge takes some time to take place, since it's slow but well thought.
And although the books is amazing, it is not best choice when in a slump unfortunately.

I started reading so many books in August but only managed to finish The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo which I enjoyed very much. But I think I'm not going to finish another book anytime soon because I started reading Notre-Dame de Paris by Victor Hugo. In French. I haven't read anything in French since school and the only book I remember reading there is about a 12 year old girl who runs away from home, moves in with a drug addict and goes skinny-dipping with him. So Hugo is a whole other level :'D

I actually read 10 books in August! Ones of note were the first three Harry Potters, Record of a Spaceborn Few (which unfortunately I think was my least favorite of the three), and A Conjuring of Light which was also probably my least favorite in the trilogy. But I also read Lady Susan after you talked about it and really liked it and the first in the Murderbot Diaries. :)

      @menollyhollabaugh5549 6 ปีที่แล้ว

@@BookswithEmilyFox I just felt like since her books are so character driven, there were too many characters' perspectives to ever really feel invested in any of them, and the people I liked the most seemed to get the least attention. The pace picked up in the second half, but I just didn't enjoy the characters as much as I did in the first (or especially) second book. I've seen reviews though where people didn't really like the second book, but loved this one, so it just depends what sort of characters you connect with I guess. In a series that has introduced such interesting aliens I wasn't as into a book that was, more or less, all about humans. :P

Honestly I was in a bit of a slump too. I read books that friends online and IRL recommended to me but honestly they all fell kind of flat for me. They weren’t bad per say but nowhere near as good as I was lead to believe. Honestly, I enjoyed a webcomic called “All That We Hope to Be” by It Sun the most.
A physical book I liked was “You Will Know Me” by Megan Abbott, which you didn’t like. I felt it was mislabeled genre wise as it was more psychological thriller rather than a mystery. I’m going to give the author another go and see if a like another book of hers more.

This month I read only 2 books. Tarnished city whitch is a young adult dystopian. It's a page turner, I really like the political plot, but, may be because it's a YA novel I think things are coming a bit too fast and I have some troubles to get along with the caracters. But I really enjoyed it and will have troubles to wait for the 3rd book. Then I read my 1st Sanderson book: Warbreaker. I liked it a lot, it was really entertaining. I was thinking it was an epic fantasy but it's more an "initiatic" (is this word exists in english?) one. I loved seeing the caracters evolution, the world building is rich. Thank you for the recomandation (english word???).

Congrats! Even if The Count of Montecristo can be a deeply rewarding book, the transition between the first part, packed with adventure and emotions, and the big plot, super slow and meditative, is not very fluid, it feels disconnected. Still, a great story! I managed to read Matt Haig's How to stop time, because he is going to present his book near my city next week and I'm super excited about it, but the novel… I thought it was the bad copy of The Humans - same ideas, same protagonist.
