Farming is when you're collecting things like crafting materials, grinding is killing enemies just to level up.
You could think of it as farming XP.
I remember being a bit disappointed that the Ocarina of Time gold cartridge didn't glint like the Zelda II cartridge
The mace-wielding boss of Temple #5 is called Gooma. Also, that was a great fight!
I like Mike's view of things (e.g. how he prefers old school Ganon to the humanoid post-OOT Ganondorf). I think In fantasy stories there is an art of mystique. That is, how an author/creator references historical events within the fantasy world without showing them. The imagination of the reader is much more powerful than anything the author could actually show. So, for example, the *idea* of how Anakin Skywalker fell to the Dark Side and became Darth Vader is much more interesting than any movie could have actually portrayed it. This mystique is always at its peak in the early stages of a fantasy story, that's why its so noticeable in the early Zelda games. Now everything in Zelda (like most things in Star Wars) has been "standardized." They aren't myths and legends anymore. Now there is official canon, an official everything. Even an official way characters *look* (e.g. Zelda always has that kind of Elvish aesthetic post OOT). That has its advantages too, since an established way of doing things makes expanding the world more easy, but the fantasy world necessarily loses its mystique, and that's a lot.

I've never played Zelda 2 before, but now thanks to you mike I sorta feel like I have. Thanks for consistently talking and keeping it entertaining. I hate when streamers just sit there and don't say anything. Why watch someone play a game if they're not gonna say funny stuff?

Trivia: When asked about it in an interview, Shigeru Miyamoto stated, that of all the games he had been involved with, Zelda II was the one he was least pleased with, because the development process went too smoothly.
- Usually, there are moments during the process where you question your work or come up with new ideas or just bump into problems, but none of that really happened during the production of Zelda II.
I miss the pieces of paper you had to get in order to buy video games at Toys R Us. They never should have stopped that. Or remodeled the stores for that matter.
Something I feel could have improved on Zelda II was getting maps and compasses for the palaces. They could have sorta looked like the map in Super Metroid to adjust for this being a platforming kind of game. Need to ask Mike this during a stream next time.

51:20 didn't see anything on the stream, but unless the input capacitor blows up, it should keep running as the 7805 voltage regulator is fairly stable even without input filtering.
Best way to level is to go to level 4 and hit the knight statue to spawn a red knight. Kill it get 200 points and go back and go it again. some times you will get a red potion to.

Mike missed a couple heart containers before level 4. There were at least 3 or 4 he could of picked up before he used the raft.

Why such a huge gap between the two parts?
This is pedantic, but imo ‘farming’ is when you kill lots and lots of enemies in search of a specific item or items. If experience points are the only goal, then I’d call it ‘grinding’.

I think farming is also a term that can be used to substitute grinding. It's a farm, takes a while to grow and takes a while to level up in this case.

Death Mountain only came too early because you played through it before beating the second palace. The game designers intended for you to beat the second palace, thus leveling a bit, THEN go through Death Mountain.
Still too early. death mountain should be the very last stage.

+George Mcqueen Actually I think there is 3 SNES Addams games, but I guess you're talking about the side-scrolling one, where you control Gomez. It came out in 1992 (on SNES) and then a year later they did a NES version, but they totally redesigned everything (the graphics, the layout but also the gameplay which is less linear). Although it has some similarities it's a quite different game.

i wish my nes zelda 2 still saved damn battery died on mine can still play but to really play this game with out saving is hell so i got my zelda 3ds with every zelda game currently on 3ds eshop in it and can play again but its not the same :/

i love zelda 2 because its the only one in this style so if they where to make a new Zelda game like this i would love it on 3ds not WiiU console's should be reserved for the third person Zelda's. portable systems should only have top down / side scrolling Zelda's i am ok with N64 remake's but don't you dare put twilight princess on 3ds. it's my opinion so if you agree that's ok if you don't fine by me just posting a statement.
So farming now replaces grinding? I'll still probably call it leveling up.

I don't know Mike, the time spent on getting the extra life is probably in comparison of traveling back to the temple after getting three lives as you game over.
If your just going for points I would call that grinding.

Mike's ironknuckle technique is so cheap.
It does take some of the challenge out of the combat, but you can always choose not to use it. The jumping bird Knights (fokkas) however, require such cheapness if you want to stay sane...

+Angry Gen X'er It bites him in the ass on the blue ones, though. If you learn to fight the Orange and Red ones the right way, then the Blue ones aren't any more difficult, as long as you can back them up to a wall.

i would say this is a poor game with great gameplay. its not fair to criticize it because it's only aged bad, it should have had a sequel (zelda 3?)
my take on this game - was at the time there was two zelda games.... 1 and 2... people didnt like this becaseu it was not as good (so it was the "worse" zelda game)
that being said - this game is fucking awesome, just not the better of the two nes zeldas.
I don't want to be "that guy" but what your doing is grinding, not farming. farming is when you try to accumulated specific items.
