Absolutely love this stuff! I ordered some and have been playing with it. Just a tip for anyone else who wants to top, it doesn't work if you immerse it in resin (sadly). Found this out the hard way. Another tip...make certain that your silicone cualk is well adhered to the film, and high enough to hold your resin. (Yup you guessed it...major mess!)
Thanks so much and thanks for watching. Great tips 🤗 you can also go around your caulk mold with hot glue if you want to make extra sure it's 100% sealed 🤗🌈
i am still amazed how the resin picks up the holographic design from that plastic! i think that is a great idea and i am sure it is gorgeous in person! ❤ 🌹
I bought the film last year. I love the rainbow it puts on my walls when the sun hits it directly. I had some film left and I had been thinking on how to use it with resin. NOW I have many more ideas! Thanks!
Thanks so much for watching 🤗 I love the rainbow it puts on the walls too. It's so much fun making resin creations with it. I have been making suncatchers with it lately. They're so pretty 🤗🌈
LOL, Trish, I have that same one that you have. My large living room window looks directly into my next-door neighbors. I had asked my son the other day if he thought we could pour resin over it and he said " mom you have gone resin happy"
Thanks for watching 🤗🌈 😅😅😅 That is too funny, it's a nice way to cover the window without having to install a curtain rod and blinds/curtains. You could 100% put the actual window film over the windows but it's a window cling and omg getting no air bubbles to show using the actual window film is such a chore. I think it's impossible 🤣 so I'll just make these for those windows 🤗
This just mystifies me. I want to use that design on EVERYTHING! Coasters... jewelry.... any flat surface I have! Its become my favorite thing to watch you do!... XOXO
Hi, no pouring the silicone onto the window film doesn't work. You have to make a resin piece on the window film, then you can make a mold from the resin piece made on the window film. The mold can be made off the resin piece only. The silicone isn't compatible with the material the window film is made of.
Beautiful!! As I was watching this I looked over at the leftover window cling film I have and thought about the silicone calk I have and my heart leap with joy!!! Thank you soooo much for sharing this!!!
Yay, that's awesome. Thanks for watching again, you are going to love making these. Let me know how it goes. Just remember to pour on the rainbow textured side not the flat back side. And let your 100% silicone caulk dry for 24 hours before you pour your resin 🤗🌈
How am I not subscribed to you Tish!? I KNOW I was! I just LOVE the way this looks. I have a couple of triangular windows that will be very costly to cover. You just gave me a great idea! I can build a frame and hang from the window seal! Thanks for the tutorial!
Awesome, thanks for watching and subscribing. I'm so glad this was helpful. These are so pretty when the sun shines through them. They're great if you still want to be able to see out of the window which is what I wanted. Your idea sounds amazing, please let me know how it turns out 🌸🌸🌸
Awe thank you 🤗 I'm happy to help anytime 🌈 I warn you resin is addictive 😅 I started out my fluid art journey only with paint pouring. Then I tried clear coating my acrylic pours with resin and that turned into a full blown resin obsession 🤣
Don’t feel bad about not measuring it first. First time is always the learning stage. This is absolutely amazing! It is so cool. Can’t figure out how the colors get in there LOL I guess I have a lot to learn about this. I guess it’s the colors from the room reflecting? I love watching your channel and seeing all the new things you do. I’m doing this for sure. Thanks for Sharing👍
Thanks Sherri 🤗🌈 you have to try it out. It's soooo cool. The colors transfer from the window film onto the resin. Idk how it works but it does & you can keep reusing the film over and over. The colors stay put on the window film 🤗 thanks for watching 🤗🌈
Tish, I've just gotten around to doing this. It's done and lying flat to fully cure. I've already taken off the cling. While it's lying flat, I wondered if I could pour some silicone rubber on it in a shape to make the holographic inlay? Appreciate all your help.
Awesome, im so glad you gave it a try. You can most definitely do that. I made a holographic mold from the resin piece made on the window film in this video th-cam.com/video/5BSdO4BVj9E/w-d-xo.html Just pour your silicone rubber onto the resin piece you made. Just make sure you pour the silicone on the holographic side of your resin piece
I am surprised that anyone using this has not mentioned that it has a backing on the window film. My question is if that makes a difference, it being on or off and if I could maybe use the slick side to lay on a flat mold. It is not sticky, it just stays clean for better static cling for windows, I suppose.
Thanks for watching, I've made several videos since this one and have mentioned the backing layer. If you remove the backing layer there is a static cling and you can use cut to size pieces in molds. I have tried that and I found it difficult to get the window film to lay completely flat without air bubbles inside a mold. Resin can run under the film and if that happens it's very hard to peel the film away from the resin without causing damage, scratches, imperfections in your piece.
Thanks so much and thanks for watching. You can definitely pour a large sheet like this and cut it into shapes. That's actually what I ended up doing with this one. 🤗🌈
That thinness would be perfect if you wanted to bend and sculpt it. Also you can make an amazing stained glass. Put template under the film. Make the “leading” with apoxie sculpt, or liquid leading. Then pour different coloured resins. You will have colours and holographic design!
Thanks for watching 🤗💙 That's a great idea. I have apoxie sclupt. I did make a set of coasters with this technique in a previous video. I made one blue and one clear. The holographic effect didn't show to well on the blue coaster. It really looks awesome on the clear pieces. I'll have to try to make a lamp next. Thanks for all the wonderful ideas 💡🤗
Girl you have to try it, it's so easy and they're stunning in person. The camera doesn't do them justice. When the sun hits it. It's so awesome 🤗🌈 thanks for watching 🤗
Really Cool! I also like that you are wearing a VOC Mask - too many resin artists are sending a bad example by NOT wearing them. Again, thanks for posting this amazing video!
Awe thank you so much and thanks for watching 🤗 & I agree with the mask I always wear mine eventhough it's uncomfortable. We have to keep our lungs safe. When I started out with resin I didn't wear a mask because the TH-cam channels I watched didn't wear one. Then I asked for the msds sheet from the brand of resin I was using and after I read it I bought a respirator that same day and have worn it ever since😊
That's awesome! But I think instead of using up my resin I'd just put the window film on the window! Well, unless the film isn't clear like the resin is. You're the expert! What do I know!? Lol
Wow! I love this idea, Tish. I can’t believe how nice this came out. 👏. I think I will try this for one of the windows in my home in Florida. I know exact which window too! Lol. ❤️
Thank you 🌈🤗 you should totally make one for your home in FL that would be awesome. It's so pretty In person. The camera doesn't do it justice. Thanks for watching 🤗🌈
Oh I love the opportunities that this brings its beautiful and I love it in your window love the prism I was thinking make it into for sun catchers coasters trays the opportunities are endless great idea Trish enjoyed your video thanks for sharing xx
Awe thank you so much and thanks for watching 🤗🌈 I love making things with this. You can really do a lot with it. Suncatchers would be stunning with it 😍 forgot to say you don't want to top coat anything you make with it because it will take away the holographic effect 🌈
Hi Tish, That is so very beautiful! I've seen quite a few coasters free-form bowls with the holographic window sheets.BUT never seen anybody do a full window so that's really cool! What do you think if I myself wanted to do one for my window. When these apartments were built they put a little extra design into the window frames. So there's 2 half-moons 1 over the window and 1 over the door. And like your window they only get sun in the morning. In fact in the door itself there is 2 sketched glass with holographic diamonds in center so that's really pretty early in the morning little diamond rainbows all over walls etc. goes all the way into my kitchen. 😆 I would love more of that effect on a larger scale. Maybe I'll shoot you an email for you to do a commissioned piece 😉💗 I mean I know I could just buy it and attach it to the window. (I did that years ago with a different pattern different house) But I like the idea of making it into an art piece! So when I move I could still use it in any other window!
Thanks so much Sue 🤗🌈 I love making things with this technique it's so pretty in person. The windows you have sound so cool. I have a stained glass piece with those diamond shapes you have on your door and I love the rainbows it creates in the am too. I was actually going to cut this up into smaller pieces. The fact that I didn't make it a perfect rectangle shape is driving me nuts when I look at it. I have slight OCD 😅 I could make it into the shapes you need. Shoot me an email and maybe a picture of your window so I can see the size etc. 🌈🤗
Beautiful! As you were unmolding, I was thinking how pretty it could be rolled upin a cylander for use as a pretty lamp! I have some of this film, as well as some with a holo floral pattern. I wish they made many more patterns of this stiff, but I haven't found much.
Ooohhh a lamp would be amazing 😍 that's a great idea Now you have my mind spinning with ideas💡thanks for watching and always leaving me such kind comments. I appreciate you 🌈🤗
Wow! That is a huge yardstick! What is it, about 3 feet long? 😆😆 I love your channel and everything you make is so beautiful! Thank you for bringing gorgeous colors and sparkles into our lives!😍 Editing because I wanted to say even your imperfections are still perfect! If you never mentioned that it’s not a perfect rectangle, I don’t think most would have noticed. Also I really like that you didn’t cut the edges to be straight. I love how the caulk made the edging wavy(?), is that the word I’m lookin for? Lol Thank you again for a gorgeous piece and tutorial! 🤗
Awe thank you so much 🤗🌹 I appreciate you 🌹 you could always cut or sand the edges to make them smooth but I like the rough look too. It is a yard stick 😆 I had to buy it just for this project. It wasn't too expensive I think $5 off Amazon. You should have seen the box they sent it in. It was huge 😆 thanks for watching 🌹🤗

Hi do you think instead of making the mold can it be cut and put inside a silicone mold? What do you think? Greetings from Puerto Rico, love your tutorials
Thanks so much for watching Linda 🌈🤗 It won't work inside a silicone mold. You have to make your own mold with silicone caulk right on top of the window film like I did in this video 🤗
Thanks for watching and subscribing, I do my resin in the garage when they're asleep and my acrylics at the kitchen table while they run around during the day 🤗🤗🤗
It's too late to comment, I know, but just in case you'll respond, here goes- I'm very curious if the sheet you made allows more light to go through than the original film. The original film blocks about 35% of the visible light according to the spec sheets I've looked at. But looking at you holding the your resin film above the floor, it seems as if it does let more light through than the film I've been using of the same design. So I'm wondering if you could try holding both films side by side, and looking to see if the original film cast a dimmer shadow than your resin film, and report back? If it doesn't, it would save me a ton of effort to get all the supplies to try making a resin sheet myself in the hopes of creating a version of this film that let's more light through.
I would say they're about the same. I didn't have the panel the entire size of my window because I wanted light to come in around the panel and not cover the window completely.
@@naptimecreations I would like to place an order for a resin or acrylic "coaster" copy of this film, so I can analyze the look of the resin copy and compare it with the film I have. Is that possible?
@@Dev-lc4cd I have some that are pre made they're not poured deep for coasters though. It's made of resin. I am unable to make acrylic items. Awe thank you so much Syndie, it really is so easy and fun. You can get really creative with it. I'm excited to make some more pieces soon 🤗 thanks for watching 🤗🤗🌈🌈🌈
Wow! That is truly stunning & I love the rainbows it creates. Just a quick question though (& it could just be me being daft) - why can't it stay in the sun?
Thank you so much and thanks for watching 🤗🌈 Mainly it needs to stay out of the direct sunlight because it can cause the resin to yellow quickly & if it gets really hot it can warp / bend from the heat.
My lil brain cannot comprehend this at all 🤯😂 I thought it was the actual film! And also 🧐 whatcha got going on to the right on you table? I see bedazzles 😍😍
Thanks for watching JenJen 🤗🌈 idk how it works either but it does and it's so pretty in person. You have to try it when you can. Hopefully you can resin again soon? The bedazzled piece is a milky way painting I was working on. I kinda hate it and kinda love it. Not sure if I am going to post the video or not 😅🤗
Thanks for watching 🤗🌈 The holographic window film itself is textured. The holographic effect is basically an imprint / microscopic engraved effect. When you pour your resin on top of the window film the resin takes on the imprint and pattern that's on the window film. Making your resin pieces holographic and textured on one side. You can reuse the window film over and over. It's reusable the holographic design/effect stays on the window film forever. Keep in mind with this technique you can't top coat the resin pieces you make. A top coat will make the holographic effect go away. Also when you try this make sure you are pouring your resin on the holographic textured side of the window film. Don't pour on the flat backside of the film. Hope that all made sense.
Thanks for watching 🤗 yes you can reuse it over and over the holographic effect stays on the holographic window film even after you have poured on it 🤗
So the resin has to be thin to work?? I tried this but failed! The resin had groves in it but it did not make the rainbows. I’m not sure what I did wrong!
It doesn't have to be thin. It works on thicker pours too. I made thicker pieces in this video th-cam.com/users/shortsJ2BJVzSFiPg?feature=share You want to make sure you are pouring on the textured holographic rainbow side of the window film.
@@naptimecreations ok I’m going to watch. UV resin just melted the window covering. I love your videos! It’s very easy to follow along even for a super newbie like myself!! Thank you! Please keep making videos of cool stuff!!
I am so upset , I have watched this nd another one that mentions you so many times....no mater how I do it , it does not work....I tried making a holographic big butterfly , but no holographic effect showed up. I have the window film, same one as the link shows, and another one....both do not work...and I am making sure I do it on the holographic side. What could I be doing wrong? also I tried defraction paper that worked , I made some silicone mold inserts with defraction paper , that also worked..yay....but I want to be able to do it with window film because of the different patterns ...please help ..I buy Julie's molds too , but would love to make some of my own
Thanks for watching, I'm so sorry it's not working. It has worked for me and others really well. Is you workspace 100% level and there's not wrinkles in the window film? Also you want to pour on the textured holographic side. Sometimes From the back it can look holographic but that side is flat and has no texture. You don't want to pour on that side. Only pour on the holographic textured side.
@@naptimecreations i have a leveling board but maybe its because it had a silicone mat under it. I have done it a couple times and know it was on the holographic side. Maybey film is just. Not the right stuff. Because i did a slab if silicone on defraction film and part of it over the window film and it worked over the defraction film but only the texture came out but no holographic came out. I hate to buy more window film and its still doesn’t work. Thank you so much for answering my question
Hello, I put the silicone on the rainbow film for 24 hours, but when I try to separate the silicone from the film it still sticks and the silicone material does not dry completely under work, what is the problem? 😔 Help me if you can.🙏🙏😘
Thanks for watching, some brands of the silicone caulk do stick to the window film. What brand of silicone are you using? It has to be 100% silicone caulk. It should say it on the package. If the silicone sticks just toss that piece and try again with a new piece of the window film 🤗
@@naptimecreations Thank you for your answer. I use German LM brand silicone and I can easily remove the mold from the silicone after molding any kind of object after 3 hours. I only have a problem with the rainbow foil that does not stick under the work, ie the silicone material on the foil. It is a rainbow, it does not stick even for more than 24 hours, if I do not touch it, it will not stick again.

Thanks for watching, that wasn't the plan I had for it. You could do that but I didn't want to. I wanted some sun to still shine through the window. You can also turn these into suncatchers as well. I have a different tutorial showing how I do that.
Thanks for watching, it depends on the window, if the window is in direct sunlight all day then no. If the window has a little sun exposure during the day it is fine. 🤗

I made a holographic mold from the resin piece made on the window film in this video th-cam.com/video/5BSdO4BVj9E/w-d-xo.html
Just pour your silicone rubber onto the resin piece you made.
Beautiful - Could you make a large sheet of it then cut it into shapes? I have order some film.

I have slight OCD 😅
I could make it into the shapes you need. Shoot me an email and maybe a picture of your window so I can see the size etc. 🌈🤗

@@mimisart 🤗🤗🤗 do you have a patio? You could do resin out there in the summer time 😁
@@naptimecreations I do and it would be a great idea 💡 but very limited space 😕
I know what you mean, when we lived in an apartment I put a small desk out there on the patio and did my resin art on that desk 🤗
It's too late to comment, I know, but just in case you'll respond, here goes-
I'm very curious if the sheet you made allows more light to go through than the original film.

The bedazzled piece is a milky way painting I was working on. I kinda hate it and kinda love it. Not sure if I am going to post the video or not 😅🤗
I don’t understand how this works, how does it transfer the holographic effect over to the resin and can you use the paper more than once?
Thanks for watching 🤗🌈
The holographic window film itself is textured.
Can you reuse the holographic paper?
Thanks for watching 🤗 yes you can reuse it over and over the holographic effect stays on the holographic window film even after you have poured on it 🤗
