It was a different paradigm for worlds strongest man, you can't look that good now with the heavier events, maybe during the mid to late 2010s but events are getting heavier again
I have a hard time considering this a squat. Obviously it is, but at the bottom it hits a stop. That is why he doesnt control it on the way down he literally just lets it drop. He just has to get the weight up. On a squat with a barbell you have to stop it and control the weight at the bottom which is the most difficult part.

They do the same lifts though with the bodybuilder also doing isolation lifts in addition to what the power lifter does. Because the bodybuilder isn’t specialized in doing 1-2 rep maxes on a few lifts, but instead does those lifts in the 6-12 rep range, their strength isn’t functional? It’s more functional to have the muscular endurance imo than be a minimalist power lifter with big single rep lifts. The “functional strength” is dogmatic bs and a cope for people who lift for strength because they could never achieve the body they wanted.
Jouko Ahola was actually even fitter. Probably used less gear as well, judging by his physique. We'll just never know as he gave up competing rather soon.

I remember once, he was doing a clean or a press I think, did the heaviest lift, then stood on one leg still holding the weight, dropped it and did a back flip into the pool behind. What a legend.
Pudzianowski was a machine. I just rewatched the 4th Heat 2008 where he tore his calf and still won his heat. By the final it seemed like it wasn’t even a slight hindrance. People underestimate how great he was presently. Such a great era of strongman both before and after the IFSA split.

I think mariusz pudzianowski had two things working against him as far as the strong men community and fans in 2004 he was busted for steroids and was disqualified I'm sure a lot of those guys use them but he was busted the second thing is from 2005 to 2008 not all the strongest men in the world were competing at WSM I can't remember the name of the competition but a lot of them were competing in a different series altogether that was competing against WSM so there are some people out there that will say his last his last three titles weren't legit

My favourite moment of his is when you could see his eye roll back into his head and he still refused to let go of the bar in a comp(max time car hold). He pretty much blacked out while holding the bar in his hand and snapped himself back with a scream. (He won that event btw)

Like you have oly lifting shoes with the raised heel, but nobody in strongman uses that. The optimal all around shoe for comps like this are going to be your flat soles, sturdy sneakers like a converse or something.

One of if not the best to ever do it. I remember his reign when I was a kid and I thought he was the real life juggernaut! Not many humans out there can be that size and that shredded with that much strength. Absolute unit
